Localization Joke

This is a gag about the frequent language file updates released by Valve.

Starting with the Jan 17th 2012 patch, the release notes no longer document localization file updates with the typical description "Updated the localization files" or "Updated localization files".

Instead, the release notes now document localization file updates using the often cryptic or obfuscated methods listed:

January 17, 2012 Patch

  • "Did not update the localization files"

January 26, 2012 Patch

  • "Undocumented changes: Updated all localization files"

February 9, 2012 Patch

  • "Lokalisierungsdateien aktualisiert" --- German for "Updated localization files".

February 14, 2012 Patch

  • "Hcqngrq gur ybpnyvmngvba svyrf" --- The text "Updated the localization files" using the ROT13 substitution cipher.

February 23, 2012 Patch

  • "언어 파일 업데이트" --- Korean for "Updated localization files"

March 1, 2012 Patch

  • "Arquivos de localização atualizados" --- Portuguese for "Updated localization files"

March 15, 2012 Patch

March 22, 2012 Patch

  • "Lokalisointitiedostot päivitetty" --- Finnish for "Updated localization files"

March 28, 2012 Patch

  • "Did not update the localization files that did not need updating"

April 17, 2012 Patch

  • "本地化檔案已更新" --- Traditional Chinese for "Updated localization files"

April 27, 2012 Patch

  • "sǝlıℲ uoıʇɐʇɐzılɐɔo˥ pǝʇɐpd∩" --- Unicode characters forming "Updated localizatation files" (sic) upside down with a typographical error.
