The hats apparently suffered from a warehouse accident in which spoiled mayonnaise stored in the Mann Co. warehouse caused a raccoon infestation. In Hale's press release, he announced that the hats had rotted "in a puddle of rotten condiments and raccoon poop.

The following hats are to be removed from the game on January 24, 2013, two weeks after the incident was announced. The hats affected are the Batter's Helmet, Soldier's Stash, Pyro's Beanie, Demoman's Fro, Football Helmet, Prussian Pickelhaube, Trophy Belt, and Fancy Fedora.

The hats are available on the store and through crafting for the two week period following the announcement but will thereafter be permanently removed from the game.
