::::The Spy could be inside a room inside the house. He is blowing bubbles at the Scout (wind), and he is knocked back, regardless of the distance he travels. The Engineer is seen riding Balloonicorn (like a horse) and is knocked back by the explosion from his own Sentry Gun. He is being "knocked off his horse by his own lance". Demoman is only on-screen for a few seconds, I'm not sure if I fully get what is going on with his scene. Sniper is the only one in this short who is seen being directly hit by Pyro's flamethrower, The Demoman was not completely on fire. I'd argue that if there is a massive hole through your chest, you have been mutilated. In the Ninth Circle, the places you are frozen varies depending on the nature of the treachery. Sometimes the head is the only thing unfrozen, sometimes they are frozen from the waist down. The Spy is not moving during the scene where the Pyro breaks in and points his flamethrower at him for several seconds, but does not ignite it. I may have gotten some specific details wrong because I'm not an expert on The Inferno, but there's definitely enough here. This page is for discussion regarding the article itself. Speculation on items or possible meanings behind the video should be directed to the Steam Users' Forums. Thank you. - Epic Eric

Engineer

The engineer in the ending "class photo" (WHen the ending flourish scene plays) has a different facial expression than in "Meet the Engineer". Maybe include in Trivia? Sarcasm 18:19, 30 June 2012 (PDT)

I'm pretty sure that near the end before they show the source filmmaker symbot, you can hear the pyro whistling in a masculine tone. Is this enough to say he's a man now? --Crawfish 11:58, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

I heard a theory that it was set Coaltown after the MvM trailer. Is BLU team unplayable in MvM because the Pyro killed them all? --ForTheOne 14:38, 28 August 2012 (PDT)

Plot aside, it does look like the video took place on some version of Coaltown, seeing as we've (surprisingly) never gotten an "Old West Town" styled map before. Maybe it's one of those early cameos that Valve commonly puts in the "Meet The.." series, like the Jarate/Razorback in Meet the Sniper, or Hats in Meet The Spy? I'm gonna shoot Valve an e-mail over whether that's the case, and report back if I get an answer. --Wellgolly 12:24, 5 September 2012 (PDT)

They do that while referring to pyro in official valve posts, alternating between he and she - Wolfbane5001 15:41, 27 June 2012 (PDT)
But should that be added to the transcript? It still shows 'He's not here, is he?' YPchicken 18:28, 27 June 2012 (PDT)
I think we sorta hear "she" only because of the "is" and "he" words being said right after the other. The youtube subtitles were probably just a joke from Valve. LeHarfang 02:01, 28 June 2012 (PDT)
The german official subtitles say "Sie ist nicht in diesem Raum, oder?". "Sie" is the german word for "she". I don't think it was a mistake, because the german word for "he" is "er" and noone would make such a misspelling! TheGLaDOS 15:36, 28 June 2012 (PDT)
Yes, but somthing should be taken into consideration. The "is" coming right before the "he" could be interpreted as "is she." Platinum Time 17:35, 1 October 2012 (PDT)

All of the Blu Team's corpses, but...

At the end of the video, as the Pyro walks away from the devastation he caused, we got a truck out of almost all the Blu member's corpses (8~/9 classes). In order of appearance: Soldier, Engineer, Demoman, Sniper (His Hand?), Heavy, Scout, and the Spy (Feet?). And we see the Medic burned in the shed.

How they died:

  • BLU Soldier: Impaled by flying debris (Engineer's exploded sentry) [1:48]
  • BLU Engineer: Flung up in air by explosion [1:48], presumed burned to death in fetal position. [2:12]
  • BLU Demoman: "I'm Burnin!" [1:48]
  • BLU Sniper: Burned to death [1:55]
  • BLU Heavy: Axe to the head [1:16]
  • BLU Scout: Shot by Scorch Shot [1:23], seen running while in flames [1:49], burned to death
  • BLU Spy: ???
  • BLU Medic: Burned in shed
  • BLU Pyro: ???

Was there any instances of the BLU Pyro? Or correct me if any of my facts are incorrect (as they may possibly be).

Two Pyros at same place would be a paradox. -Asplode 14:10, 27 June 2012 (PDT)
The entire point of the meet the teams is not to show the class it is about as the "Enemy". Meet the Spy was a necessity and an excellent, well used choice. All other possible appearances (Meet the Heavy, Soldier and Demo) are just as passerbys getting slaughtered by the main character. Another reason for them to avoid wanting an enemy pyro in the video is the fact that the Pyro's weakness, is a different Pyro! Feam 17:01, 27 June 2012 (PDT)
The Spy survived, maybe because the creators didn't want another Spy getting burned by the Pyro. It's possible the Spy was using the Dead Ringer and ran away. And possibly, the Pyro wasn't there because she/he/it was probably doing the same thing as the RED Pyro. And the map seems to be an earlier version of Coal Town, or Downtown Teufort, or possibly, hinting at a Wild West themed map.

The Wild West Pyro 23:11, 25 September 2012 (PDT) The Wild West Pyro

Feam makes a good point. They wouldn't show a BLU Pyro for many reasons. A few of those are that the Meet the Team videos don't really show the main character's BLU counterpart and also because the Pyro is fireproof, thus it wouldn't make for a good video. The entertainment (in the Non-Pyroland parts of the video) is in watching BLU members die helplessly at the hands of a single RED team member. Trying to kill a BLU Pyro would just take too long and it would ruin the whole idea that this video-and all other Meet the Team videos-give: The main character is an unstoppable and essential member of their team. Wow, that was more long-winded than I thought. :P Nintos 15:57, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

"He's not here, is she?"

In 0:27, that's how it's written in transcript (it was added to the video). A misspelling? Probably. Xeoxer 14:02, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

  • They also messed up with the code of subtitles file (numbers in transcript, instead of being in the code...) so 75% a mistake. Xeoxer 14:06, 27 June 2012 (PDT)
Pyro's gender is unknown. There have been "he" and "she" referrings to Pyro. It's probably not a misspell. Also, number on transcript might mean something, like seen in ARG. -Asplode 14:10, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

Numbers in Captions

I was watching the video with captions and noticed some odd numbers, figured I would record them in case someone has some idea what they mean.

  • @0:58 "How the music can free her whenever it starts. 00:01:02.500,00:01:05.110 And it's magic, if the music is groovy."
  • @1:16 "If you believe in magic... 00:01.17.883,00:01.19.425 don't bother to choose. 00.01.19.450,00:01.23.383"
  • @1:17 "If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues. 00:01.23.500,00:01.24.850 [Scout screams!]"

Looking at it now, it looks like coding for the captions, but who knows. I also thought they looked similar to IP addresses. Joshduman 14:36, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

Was made aware of these before, and I'm pretty certain these are simply the Timing of the captioned lines. I think they already fixed that, too! Feam 17:07, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

This is probably how they made the note signs. --NeatNit 09:49, 28 June 2012 (PDT)

More notes?

Did anyone else notice that the video on adultswim's page? That is here http://www.adultswim.com/promos/valve/index.html . Spy's cigarette in that video isn't light up, while in the official one on teamfortress' channel is :) Fresh 15:40, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

Yeah. The one on adultswim is unlisted [[1]] Fresh 16:20, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

Wow, really nice catch! I wonder what the point of doing that was (if there WAS a point).

Its because Adult Swim's Parent Company I believe Time Warner might not Support smoking and directed Adult Swim to exclude any smoking of Cigarettes from their promotions for TF2 Due to it being accessible by any users despite its age restriction.Seth Hunter 14:29, 31 July 2012 (PDT)

Has anyone noticed this?

Anybody? Well throughout the Meet the Pyro video if you look in the sky during scenes when it's "all sun shine and lolipops" there are symbols representing the female sex? Stop the video at about 55 seconds and look in the upper right hand corner. The symbol is flipped to the side and the symbols in a lighter blue color than the surrounding sky. It's visible through out the video if you look for it. Another note I would like to point out is the lyrics to the song, "Do you believe in magic, in a young girl's heart?" and the following line "How the music can free her, whenever it starts."

This is my first post on this site but I just wanted you all to take note. I thought it was quite interesting! :D

Female sex symbol floating in the air

A small easter egg during one of the Pyro-Perspective parts was spotted by someone, and a friend of mine showed it to me. http://puu.sh/EaNw Personally I don't want people to take these JOKES into serious consideration and freak out all over them, but as a nice joke and hidden secret made by Valve it should be respected within the wiki notes. People should just learn to chuckle and let things go...

Anyway, Feel free to check its authenticity since I am currently unable to give direct time / better picture. -Feam 17:15, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

EDIT: Wow, someone posted it minutes before me while I was writing. Feam 17:17, 27 June 2012 (PDT)

I need clarification for this...

Is the place where the Heavy, Scout, and Spy were interviewed in Counter-Strike's cs_office? If so, that would make a great note.

Sideways Flame?

Anyone notice that around 1:55 the blue flame coming out of the tip of the flamethrower is sideways? A real flame wouldn't do that. I'm new so I'm not sure if that matters enough to be put on the Meet the Pyro page. Let me know what you think! Nintos 15:22, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

EDIT: Just to clarify, I meant that flame goes up, never sideways, unless blown extremely hard by wind or something of that sort. Nintos 15:24, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Soundtrack Links?

Can anyone put in a link to both soundtracks? I found the soundtrack page on the wiki, but I don't know how to make a hyperlink. GeneStealer 21:58, 14 July 2012 (PDT)

Mask note

...And I don't get it either. Why remove the note about the pyro's mask? Its not like its a pointless note. Yechnagoth 05:14, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

It has that since the first Beta... User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) - (contributions) 05:28, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

Axtinguisher and Butterfly Knife

Is this noteworthy? At around 0:07 or so (the close up shot of the pyro walking) you can see the Spy's Butterfly Knife on the right, and also around 2:15 there is an Axtinguisher stuck in (what looks like to me anyway) a dead Heavy's arm. Also on Baloonicorn match case you can read the date "1956." Shadowhand 20:27, 9 September 2012 (PDT)

Soldier's Chest

The hole in the soldier's chest could have been made by a reflected rocket?(already made this suggestion in the voodoo-cursed soldier soul discussion page, but it also suits this page) Draforce94 05:08, 2 November 2012 (PDT)

"The view zooms out and passes through the burnt, gaping hole in the a stomach of a BLU Soldier." -Meet the Pyro transcript. Pyro most likely burnt that hole with his/her Flamethrower. -Asplode 05:26, 2 November 2012 (PDT)

Transcript

I think the transcript is broken. When clicking on it, a white page appears with one word "false" instead of the wiki page with the transcript out of spoiler. Pinstripe (talk) 03:24, 11 July 2013 (PDT)

The short contains references to Dante's Inferno - This is not speculation

First Circle: Limbo The punishment of the First Circle is living in a deficient form of Heaven. The Pyro is living in a deficient form of Heaven (Pyroland)

Second Circle: Lust The punishment of the Second Circle is being buffeted back and forth by the terrible winds of a violent storm The Pyro blows bubbles at the Scout in Pyroland but is actually knocking him back with a flare from his flare gun.

Third Circle: Gluttony The punishment of the Third Circle is being mauled and flayed by the claws of Cerberus. The Pyro thinks he is feeding the Heavy a lollipop, but he is mauling him with the fire axe.

Fourth Circle: Greed The punishment of the Fourth Circle is being forced to joust others within the same Circle. The Engineer is seen riding Balloonicorn in Pyroland, but he is being knocked away by the explosion from his own Sentry Gun.

Fifth Circle: Wrath The punishment of the Fifth Circle is fighting on the surface of the River Styx and howling. The Demoman is lying down, on fire, howling "I'm burning!"

Sixth Circle: Heresy The punishment of the Sixth Circle is being trapped in a flaming tomb The Medic is trapped in a flaming shed.

Seventh Circle: Violence The punishment of the Seventh Circle is being immersed in a river of boiling blood and fire The Sniper is immersed in a stream of fire from Pyro's flamethrower.

Eighth Circle: Fraud One of the punishments of the Eighth Circle is being hacked and mutilated, your body is divided. Soldier is shown with a massive hole in his chest.

Ninth Circle: Treachery The punishment of the Ninth Circle is being frozen in ice. The Spy (disguised as the Engineer) is shown trapping the Scout outside to save himself. We then see him (disguised as the Demoman) frozen in fear inside the darkness.

We have Nine characters each strongly associated with the sins of the Nine Circles being given a similar punishment from those Circles if not the exact same punishment, with Spy even committing the sin of his Circle seconds before we see him being punished.

To say that the short contains references to Dante's Inferno is very clearly NOT speculation.

PootisWeaponsGuy (talk) 16:53, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

The speculation part refers to the fact that there is no source from Valve by this. I don't think the Spy is disguised either, I don't see that mentioned anywhere and that seems like more speculation. Furthermore, a lot of these are very far-fetched.
GrampaSwood (talk) 17:01, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
The Demoman cannot be inside the house, because we saw him run in the opposite direction when the "Engineer" entered it. Which ones are far-fetched? The Medic is literally trapped in a flaming tomb. The Heavy is mauled to death. The Scout is knocked back. The Soldier is mutilated. The Spy is frozen. The sniper is immersed in fire, the Engineer is knocked back by his own creation, the Pyro thinks he is in Heaven, when he is very clearly not. The Demoman's punishment doesn't seem very well executed in the short, but it would be hard to make him fight with others of the same Circle as himself, because he is the only one of his Circle in the short, but he is lying down and howling, like one would expect in the punishment of the Fifth Circle if you remove the fighting aspect. There is absolutely no way this is a coincidence.
PootisWeaponsGuy (talk) 17:12, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
The door when Pyro kicks it in is way different than the one shown at the start. The Pyro just went to a different building.
Lust: buffeted around is much different than being slightly knocked back by the Scorch Shot, which does that in-game too. It's more likely to be referencing in-game stats than the 2nd circle of hell.
Greed: I don't even see a connection between these two at all. Joust either means "compete closely for superiority." or "(of a medieval knight) engage in a sporting contest in which two opponents on horseback fight with lances.". I don't see a connection to either of these definitions.
Wrath: Don't see a connection here either, he's just yelling that he's burning. Hardly has anything to do with it besides the yelling part, which is stretching it really far. Because Sniper can be in the 5th circle too, because he is "howling" when set on fire.
Violence: Sniper is set on fire, like almost everyone/everything around him. Pyro's whole class is based around setting people on fire, so any class could be there.
Fraud: His body isn't divided, as you mentioned that it should be.
Treachery: He isnt frozen in fear, you can see him look at the door and hide behind the crate. That's hardly frozen.
All the mutilation: You can see at the end that practically all of them were mutilated.
GrampaSwood (talk) 17:33, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
