Overlooking

I think I've been overlooked for being eligible for getting the Wiki Cap.

Demonstrate a strong desire to help improve and update the Wiki through useful edits and contributions. Participate in the community by contributing to discussion. We also have an IRC channel where you can get to know and become part of the regulars! Adhere to the policies and practices of the Official Team Fortress Wiki, including observing the style guide and the official policies. Have roughly 400 or more edits. If you are having trouble finding things to do, take a look at the tasks list, or ask in the IRC channel.

Note: It's incredibly easy to determine if individuals are spamming edits to artificially inflate their edit count. Edit spammers will jeopardize their chances of earning the hat.

Properly implement licenses on images, sounds, and any other kinds of uploads, media or otherwise. Have been around for approximately two months or more.

Okay, I've done the first one by contributing a hell lot. I've contributed to the IRC by talking. I've stood by the policies and practices by now removing useless trivia and such. I have 573 edits. I've put licenses properly on images I've uploaded. I've been around for at least six months now.

You'll notice that the script is broken for not just that one, but all the Shogun items etc. In short, they broke the cache or didn't refresh it, because my copy of the script still works for all items. I emailed Robin about it and got no answer — Wind 17:28, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Stuff

From yesterday (or today?):

• All class nav: {{All class nav/inner}} was made to suit to special needs. seb makes note – Huge success. The table (row 68) shows fairly significant drops in the post-expand size. When you get online we should test timings to see if it's an improvement.

  Ok the dramatic drops are really only visible in row 71. The real page example only uses the /inner template on the Scout layer, the others are unchanged. So it's likely the decreases visible in the row 68 stats are going to be even better when /inner is extended to all the classes ;D seb26 11:22, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

The bot should already correct "Kritzkreig" (at least it's already in the filters; please tell me if you see a page with it on it and the bot didn't correct it), but "Natasha" is the correct translation of Natascha in Finnish (Natascha/fi = Natasha). CSS edits

You can't. The point of making user CSS is to customize how the site looks for you, not the rest of the users; otherwise, vandals could make the entire Wiki unreadable. What you can do, however, is put all of that CSS into style attributes. My page is a bit special in that it has special JavaScript and special CSS, but I'm not sure we're comfortable with giving that power to everyone yet — Wind 11:52, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

You've been called the idk code guru or somthing crazy like that and I was just wondering how one would go and make a script or out right program that would post RRS feeds directly to steam groups. Most simple scripts like that are a good fit for [Python usually, which is what I used for the Steam forums bot and for this Wiki's bot as well. It has a nice tutorial. I can't really teach you how to do such a thing from start to finish, but I can give you the code for the module to post to the Steam forums if you want :3 This is different from posting to Steam groups obviously, since they are separate websites with a separate account system, but it should probably get you started~ — Wind 01:27, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Promo Pages

Hello, hope this isn't too much of a bother but I'm curious as to why we can't add any details regarding cross-promotion games. Pages like Monday Night Combat(90% of them in fact) don't have anything more than 2 lines. I'm aware it says other sites have covered them in greater detail but shouldn't we at least colour it up a bit? I edited and gave a big workover on one of the page and was removed because of the said reason. Even if the games are unrelated to TF2, the items offered to players are. You already asked this on someone elses page. I don't think it was really needed twice. Half a page of explanation is not better than 2 lines, as the information is provided on the links on that page. (note, that is not my personal opinion, that is just how the pages are currently voted to work I guess. If you really want these pages to be changed, you can try to appeal for a change. I would argue that it's not only unnecessary, but would actively cause problems for the wiki if these pages were created. Every single page on this wiki is directly related to Team Fortress. Why cause the confusion of adding in indirect pages when there is absolutely no benefit to doing so? -Subtlefuge 05:54, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

To be perfectly fair, the Poker Night page is directly related to TF2, in that it has achievements which unlock TF2 items. I recently added the Hat Trick achievement ino to the Alien Swarm page, and no one has reverted it. It wouldn't be outlandish to have the achievement info on the Poker Night page, it'd be consistent. I'm not exactly for such a long page based on another game, especially with how it wouldn't be consistent with every other promotional item page. The Poker Night page could handle the achievements I'd think. Poker Night is oe of the only third-party games to feature a TF2 character in full, along with Killing Floor. I'd imagine both of these facts are worth bringing up on their respective pages. I'm not voting for or against just yet, but consistency is important with these pages. It'd be awkward for the Poker Night page to be a long as some weapon articles while the Plants Vs. Zombies or Portal 2 page are so short...

Firstly, I apologize for bringing up this topic again, perhaps I was just trying too hard to revive my edited work since it took me a while to make it. And secondly, thanks for the explanation, I didn't realize fully that pages not only have to be entirely related to Team Fortress but consistent with other pages. A few days ago, I add the name for Lo-Fi longwave and Sprial Sallet.However, many hours later I found it still remains the English name, not Traditional Chinese.
I wonder why this happened, because I saw the Russian version have successfully added it.Do you know why I cannot add name at Template:Dictionary? Maybe I typed wrong at somewhere :p

{{lang date}} problem

Hiya Wind. The {{lang date}} is having some issues with the {{{force}}} / | force = en command (probably caused by the conversion from translation switching into dictionary), which makes translated main pages, as well as several other templates that use it, broken (note the patch links). Detective Noire in Item checklists

I brought this to the attention of Swarfega, and he said I should pass this on to you. Currently in Windbots item checklists the detective noire is not recognised. However, I've discovered that this can be solved by removing the accented 'e' and replacing it with a normal one; Basicly you replace 'Détective' with 'Detective' and it's all fixed.MEDUNN 08:31, 24 June 2011 (PDT)

Errr, I actually just noticed some issues with the new skin. Infoboxes on various pages aren't showing up correctly, and even the Item checklist template on my userpage isn't showing up correctly either. Almost all of them (items' name), except Summer Hat, Summer Shades. For example, Here's a page from Russian version, and you can see their template ({{Summer camp update nav}}) still has a lot of words which remains English, because there's no place to type in the dictionary.I hope I describe the situation clearly : ) ~www~ 19:43, 4 July 2011 (PDT)

It deleted it because it was already in the page, so it deletes the duplicate one. Go to the full edit page and Ctrl+F the item you want, they should all be there. Make sure you search with case sensitivity off, and you should be able to find it:

Nah, it's alright. I've got a version of my userpage in Preview mode right now, and it's looking basically how I wanted it to look, using the custom CSS, but without the CSS. Essentially, the Page.css isn't needed. As well, you've probably noticed I've created my own sub-page templates, with code ripped from the Item Checklist template. User:404_User_Not_Found/Item_checklist/inline, User:404_User_Not_Found/Item_checklist/box, User:404_User_Not_Found/Item_checklist/item. Well I just copied the coding for Item Checklist itself, and previewed some color changes I made (for example changing all the "background-color:" things to "#5B4D40"), and I noticed the class tabs at the top hadn't changed color because they're in a separate template...

...Is there not an easier way to create my own custom Item Checklist that can/will be updated by WindBOT, but that uses a color scheme (with the shadow effects and rounded corners and such) similar to my userpage? 404 User Not Found 17:08, 13 July 2011 (PDT)

On second thought, what you may want to do is to keep using the custom item checklist that you already have, and then use CSS to style the tabbed box around it only. So upon checking out Template:Tabs, I saw it uses some div classes, which are located in MediaWiki:Common.css. Let's say I want to change ".poot-tabs-title" (only on my userpage, of course). The change, for example, would be changing "background:#f3a957;" to "background:#FF0000;". How would I go about accomplishing this in my Page.css? Would I just copy the entire ".poot-tabs-title" into my Page.css, then make the necessary changes to it? Lol, yeah, I know, I'm spammy. I'm racking my brains as we speak, trying to think of an easy way to host my own Wiki free-of-charge, which would use all the CSS, JS, what-have-you that this Wiki uses, but would be built just for testing code and templates and such. And I've used Stylish before. Not a big fan.

Onto the Sandbox CSS. I know edit spam, from me, is pretty bad right now and I apologize. I'm gonna take a break on the editing for awhile, go outside, have a smoke or two, read a magazine I bought and listen to the radio. But I assure you if you add the CSS functions to my Sandbox, there will be little-to-no edit spam. When it comes to my sandbox, I preview everything over and over until I get it right.

All I'll have to do is make 1 edit to the Sandbox/Page.css page, which is to add the CSS from User:Pilk/armory/css. Once that's done, no edit spam. The thing is that you can't preview CSS edits, because your page won't show up with the edited version before it's submitted. Hence the need for Stylish so that you can apply extra CSS without editing or even reloading the page. No no no no, lol. Try to follow me here. You add User:404 User Not Found/Sandbox so I can take the CSS from User:Pilk/armory/Page.css and paste it onto User:404 User Not Found/Sandbox/Page.css. (That's one edit and only one edit right there.)

Now here's where I think I confused you. Once I've got the CSS added to my Sandbox, I can then copy the code for the new infobox Pilk is working on here, paste it onto my Sandbox and make edits to it, all the while using "Show Preview" to see what my edits look like, thus preventing me from spamming the Recent Changes with numerous edits to User:404 User Not Found/Sandbox.

As I said above, when I work from my Sandbox, I preview things constantly, and never actually save anything until I'm 100% finished. Half the time, if I have to restart my computer due to Windows Updates, I copy the unsaved contents of my Sandbox into a TXT file so I can re-paste them back into my Sandbox and continue the Preview process. 404 User Not Found 17:24, 14 July 2011 (PDT)

User Page Effects

Hey WindPower. I was just wondering how to create those cool effects you have for those icons right above your picture. The ones that are faded and become more defined when you mouse over them. I want to do that for the icons at the top of my user page. Could you show me how to do this (unless this is your trade secret. :D) Hojung1996 17:11, 16 July 2011 (PDT)

This is done using a mix of User:WindPower/Page.js custom JavaScript and custom CSS. If you can show that you're skilled with CSS, I can add custom CSS to your userpage as well, but I can't do the same for JavaScript, because that would effectively let you run arbitrary code in the browser of whoever visits your page, which could then be used to steal their cookie and account, etc. Not that I don't trust you, but the .js page would have to be unprotected in order to let you edit it, which would then make anyone be able to edit it (just like your user page). Thus, no custom JavaScript for regular users, sorry :( The bad news is that smooth-fading effects are only possible in JavaScript. The good news is that you can still do fading effect with only CSS, just not animated ones (as in, the element will be half-faded, then will be fully opaque on the next frame; no smooth transition between the two states). I noticed in your Page.css...

...That you're using "-o-border-radius". Thought I'd let you know that the "-o-" prefix in CSS, which of course is for Opera, doesn't actually do anything.

I'm currently writing up a CSS Notes subpage in my userspace, and I happened to Google something pertaining to the "-ms-" prefix for Internet Explorer, and I found this thread on the dev.opera.com forums.

Quote 2: The reason you see -o-border-radius in a lot of stylesheets is not because developers thought it was supported, or think it's in legacy Opera versions - it's a future-proofing measure (from back before Opera added any kind of border-radius support). If you're using vendor-prefixes (which the W3C actually recommend not to, but who listens to them), you can include prefixes for all browsers that DON'T support it, just in case they add support.

It's getting annoying.
