A Heavy Update was the third major content update for Team Fortress 2.
The Heavy class was the face of the update, recieving three new weapons, providing players with greater gameplay opportunities. To accompany the Sandvich consumable weapon, Meet the Sandvich was released alongside the update. The update also pioneered the Slowdown mechanic.
A new gamemode Arena was introduced, focusing on combat between the two teams and bringing five new maps to the game. The maps Badwater Basin and Steel were also included.
The update was released on August 19, 2008.

Update progress
Beginning a recurring theme within major updates, A Heavy Update was released on a daily basis. Each day was marked with a unique page depicting at least one of the aspects of the update, before all were released.
Trivia
- The slowdown effect inherent with Natascha originally stacked upon itself, resulting in enemies coming to a complete halt when hit with multiple bullets. This occured at any range between the Heavy and the enemy.
- The Sandvich was advertised as having unlimited use, before a cooldown bar was implemented for balance issues.
