Several short-animated movies have been created by Valve to promote Team Fortress 2. The most prominent of the shorts are contained in the Meet the Team series, which featured each of the classes in their own narrative. Other movies have centred around major game updates or depicted various game development processes such as the creation of maps. Typically, each video has lasted for three to four minutes.

팀원을 만나다는 팀 포트리스 2의 클래스들을 소개해주는 컴퓨터 애니메이션 기술로 만들어진 단편영화입니다.
단편작들의 기원은 본래 성우들의 오디션 대본이였습니다. 2007년 5월에 출시된 첫번째 단편작, 헤비를 만나다의 대본은 밸브가 헤비의 성우인 Gary Schwartz를 영입하였을때 사용하였던 대본과 매우 유사합니다. 헤비를 만나다는 포탈의 비디오에 팀 포트리스2 맛보기로 사용되었지만 픽사와 맞먹을만한 애니메이션의 품질과 익살스러운 대본을 시청자들이 높이 평가하여 밸브는 각 클래스마다 단편작이 만들어질 것을 발표하였습니다. 클래스가 아닌 샌드비치 도 단편작에 등장하였지만 메딕 과 파이로 의 단편작들은 아직 발표되지 않았습니다. 로빈 워커(Robin Walker) 는 팀원을 만나다 단편작들은 "팀 포트리스2를 계속하여 업데이트할 계획에 딱 들어맞으며" "단편작들은 팀 포트리스2를 접해보지 못한 관객도 쉽게 볼 수 있으므로 미래 고객을 확도하는 수단으로도 쓰입니다"라 하였습니다.[1]
팀원을 만나다는 광고 효과와 팬서비스 뿐만이 아니라 게임 자체에도 영향을 미칩니다. 에릭 울포우(Eric Wolpaw)는 "직원들에게 클래스들이 정확히 누구인지 이해하게 도와주고, 계속 만들다보니 계속하여 유명해 지더라구요 "라 하였습니다. 단편작이 게임 자체에 영향 을 미친 예 중 하나는 샌드비치 입니다. 로빈 워커는 "(샌드비치는) 단편작에서 그대로 가져온 아이디어입니다. 단편작이 샌드비치를 게임에 넣어야 한다는 이유 를 만들고 정당화 하였습니다." 라 하였습니다.. 자라테도 마찬가지로 스나이퍼를 만나다 단편작에서 출연 후에 게임에 등장하였습니다.
단편작들은 게임의 제작에도 도움 을 주었습니다. 밸브는 헤비 를 만나다 를 이용하여 스튜디오에서 사용되고 있는 표정 애니매이션 기술을 시험하였습니다. 로빈 워커는 새 기술이 "클래스들이 하프라이프에서보다 더욱 다양한 표정을 표현할 수 있게 해주었고 이를 시험할 예가 필요했었습니다."라고 말했습니다. 로빈 워커는 헤비를 만나다의 하이라이트, 마지막 장면의 헤비가 소리지르며 미니건을 쏘는 장면을 플레이어들이 게임에서 직접 경험할 수 있다는건 정말 자랑스러운 결과라고 말하였습니다.
소스 영화 제작기(Source Film Maker)
팀 포트리스 2의 팀원을 만나다와 레프트 4 데드의 소개 비디오 모두 소스 영화 제작기로 만들어졌습니다. 사용자들은 같은 장면을 여러번 녹화할 수 있으며 흐림 효과 와 심도 등 여러가지 영화 효과까지 사용 가능합니다. 제작기로는 팀원을 만나다에 사용된 초 고화질 모델도 사용 가능합니다. 제작기는 유통 전 유출되었지만 공개 베타 버젼의 팀 포트리스 2만 사용 가능했었습니다. 후에 밸브는 제작기를 공개 유통하려 했었다는 의향을 보였습니다. 소스 영화 제작기를 사용한 여러 비디오들은 유튜브에서 찾아볼 수 있습니다.[2]
