Revision as of 01:28, 30 March 2012

This page is for suggesting new tips to be added to the project, or changes to the tips already in the Final page. Tips here will be regularly reviewed and, if of sufficient quality, will be moved to the Final page; tips not of quality will be left for editors to improve.

Formatting

Changes

When suggesting changes to current tips, include the existing full line from Final page, and your modified line below - this allows for easy comparison of your changes and for easy replacement within Final page.

* "Tip_1_1" "As a Scout, jump while in mid-air to change direction and avoid enemy fire."
** "Tip_1_1" "As a Waffle, invent a Dispenser to shoot chickens on the moon."

New tips

For new tips, simply suggest the tip's text - not adhering to tf_english formatting - this will be implemented if a tip is accepted into Final page. Feedback on new tips, or changes to them, should be given on a new line below the tip. Sign tips and responses to tips to make it easier to keep track of changes.

Scout

Soldier

  • Pictogram info.png REJECTED as of the March 22, 2012 Patch; "As a Soldier, the Righteous Bison can be used to light the arrows of friendly Huntsman Snipers on fire."
    • I can understand why the tips was rejected: new players should be given information that would be beneficial to themselves and their team, and information which should not distract them from core gameplay concepts; this tip, in retrospect, a bit too 'limited' in scope to be burdening a new player with - the player might interpret it as being an important gameplay concept (because it is in the tips) that they would benefit from mastering, it is not and of little benefit.) Anyway, I've listed it (and will list all rejected tips) in this change section so that if anybody can see a way to refine the tip to improve it - they're available too. -RJ 12:50, 23 March 2012 (PDT)
      • Pictogram info.png Notice Rejecting this tip tomorrow, unless there are any suggested changes/discussions regarding it. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Pyro

  • "As a Pyro, you make a great Sentry bodyguard. Your Flamethrower can detect spies and reflect projectiles, while your Homewrecker can knock Sappers off." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • There is already a tip mentioning the Pyro protecting Engy buildings, "Tip_7_8" "As a Pyro, help protect an Engineer's Sentry Gun by using the Flamethrower's compression blast (%attack2%) to reflect explosive projectiles and check for enemy Spies.", perhaps we could expand that. "As a Pyro, help protect an Engineer Buildings by using your Flamethrower's compression blast (%attack2%) to reflect projectiles, check for enemy Spies, and use your Homewrecker to knock off enemy Sappers." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Demoman

Heavy

Engineer

Medic

Sniper

  • Pictogram info.png REJECTED "As a Sniper, aim for the enemy crotch."
    • Valve rejected it, it's obvious why (though I was hoping they'd let it slip on humour value)... Anyway, as per the new (as stated above) rejected-tip-watdo policy - it must be listed in case anyone wishes to improve it. :3 -RJ 12:50, 23 March 2012 (PDT)
      • "As a Sniper, don't aim for the enemy crotch." -Mr. Magoolachub 02:22, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
        • They said no to this one as well. I've suggested, "As a Sniper, sometimes aim for the enemy crotch." as a compromise between the two rejected tips (cause two negatives make a positive)... I guess I gotta wait until the next team-meeting to see what they think of that one. -RJ 12:54, 27 March 2012 (PDT)

Scout

  • "As a Scout, use Mad Milk on bleeding enemies for gradual health regeneration." Painted Swagman's Swatter E6E6E6.png r4wrzSwagmaster 13:09, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As a Scout, Mad Milk used on bleeding enemies will give you gradual health regeneration - until that enemy stops bleeding." Not entirely confident in this tip to be honest... I can't really think of much of a situation where regenerating off of bleeding enemies would be of much use, why not just mad milk+one/two scatter shots - would net around the same/more HP in less time. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Soldier

  • "As a Soldier, you can hold MOUSE 1 when you activate your Buff Banner, Battalion's Backup, or Concheror. This will let you hold the buff until you let go of the button." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • I assume there's an animation of some sort that plays prior to the buff taking effect - and this does the animation but delays the effect until the player wishes (I haven't used the banners/variants of it in a while, so I'm a tad rusty). Would this action be considered a glitch/unintended behaviour? -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Pyro

Demoman

  • "As a Demoman, heads taken with the Eyelander also increase the damage your shield does. Use this with the Splendid Screen to maximize damage!" GianAwesome 22:02, 23 March 2012 (PDT)
    • Not sure if I'm a fan of this tip to be honest. New players (of whom tips are focused toward) I wouldn't think really care about the damage their shield does (heck, I'm a matured player and I don't care about my shield damage [although I hardly use the shield]); and the tip sort of boils down to "Kill people for increased damage", which in itself I don't think is very helpful. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Heavy

  • "As a Heavy, stay close to the Payload cart. It will constantly replenish your health and ammo, allowing you to plow through your enemies as you push it along." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • Pretty synonymous with "Tip_payload_2" "Remember that the Payload cart will heal you and provide you with ammo while you are within close proximity. Use this to your advantage!", which is accepted and will be implemented in-game whenever Valve get around to programming support for gamemode-specific tips. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
      • Pictogram info.png Notice Rejecting this tip tomorrow, unless there are any suggested changes/discussions regarding it. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As a Heavy, your Sandvich can be replenished by collecting any kind of health kit. Always eat the Sandvich first and use a health kit close-by to replenish it." GianAwesome 22:02, 23 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As a Heavy, your Sandvich is replenished by collecting any type of Health Kit. Consider eating your Sandvich when in need of more health than a nearby Health kit would provide, and using that Health Kit to replenish the Sandvich." My wording I think is a bit convoluted. I wonder if anybody can craft the same message into better words? -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Engineer

  • "As an Engineer, make sure you place your Teleporter entrance so that your teammates can spot it easily." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "While defending as an Engineer, make your first priority in Setup to build your Teleporter Entrance. It only takes a few seconds to go back to your supply cabinet and restock on Metal, and it'll help your team in the long run." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "While defending as an Engineer, set up a Teleporter Entrance as soon as you exit spawn; you can quickly return to spawn to replenish your Metal via the Resupply Cabinet, and the Teleporter will help your team in the long run." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As an Engineer, the best place to set up a nest is by an Ammo kit. A constant supply of Metal will help you build fast and keep your buildings alive longer. Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As an Engineer, consider Ammo Kit locations when deciding where to place your Sentry. A constant close-by supply of Metal will help you build fast and quickly repair your buildings." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Medic

  • "As a Medic, the Kritzkrieg's Ubercharge excels at ambush. A good coordination and the right choice of patient can deliver a devastating blow to the enemy team in a single Kritz Uber." Xierra 09:08, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • I feel that the core message of this tip is sort of already covered in the currently in-game tip: "Tip_5_15" "As a Medic, remember that critical hits have no effect on Sentry Guns. Use the Kritzkrieg in areas full of players instead." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, the Quick-Fix will make you move faster when healing a Scout. Stick with one to move at breakneck speed!" Citizen Snips 17:55, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As a Medic, the Quick-Fix adjusts your movement speed to match the speed of your heal target. Heal Scouts for a significant speed-boost when needed." I do wonder if this tip is significant enough to accept... It re-states the items stats - which adequately covers its core message, but the mentioning of healing Scouts for a speed boost may be easily overlooked by players. What do you guys think? -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, be wary of who you decide to Ubercharge. A Heavy or Soldier can wreak havoc while invulnerable, but charging a Scout or Spy will be detrimental to both of you." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • There are situations where an ubered Scout can be pretty disruptive (I main scout, totally unbias comment), so I'm a bit iffy of naming particular classes... herpaps, "As a Medic, consider the situational requirements of the opportunity presented in front of you and Ubercharge a class that can adequately fulfil as many of the aforementioned requirements in order to have the greatest chances for success." (lul) "As a Medic, be careful of who you decide to Ubercharge. Consider..." gfdhgdg, my jokey convoluted suggestion is the best one I can come up with right now. :3 -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As a Medic, healing wounded allies should be prioritized above overhealing. This also fills your Ubercharge meter faster." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • The first part is kind of obvious (though I can understand it being overlooked by newbie medics), and the latter is covered by "Tip_5_4" "As a Medic, you can fill your ÜberCharge faster by healing teammates who are more injured.". -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

  • "As a Medic, your Crusader's Crossbow does increased damage to enemies or healing to teammates if you are far away from them." GianAwesome 22:02, 23 March 2012 (PDT)
    • Perhaps we can combine this tip with the currently implemnted tip, "Tip_5_24" "As a Medic, your Crusader's Crossbow does damage to enemies or heals teammates upon a successful hit.". "As a Medic, your Crusader's Crossbow does damage to enemies or heals teammates upon a successful hit; the damage done or health restored being proportional to the distance between you and the target." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Sniper

  • "As a Sniper, the Cozy Camper is helpful if you have troubles aiming because of flinching." Xierra 08:46, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • I don't think there is much substance to this tip that is not already clear to players. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
      • Pictogram info.png Notice Rejecting this tip tomorrow, unless there are any suggested changes/discussions regarding it. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Spy

  • "As a Spy, if you're convincing enough, you can make an enemy Medic waste an Ubercharge on you. Run into a pack of your allies while disguised as an enemy Heavy, wait until the Ubercharge runs out, and watch the sparks fly." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • Not really sure about this tip, I think it's more of an observation - "If you're good, then XYZ can happen" - than an actual suggestion of actions a Spy can take to improve his game. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
      • Pictogram info.png Notice Rejecting this tip tomorrow, unless there are any suggested changes/discussions regarding it. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
    • This should be less about "if you're good enough" and more about having a Medic waste his Ubercharge in you. Maybe reword it? Citizen Snips 18:28, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As a spy, if you are having trouble getting into an enemy engineer's nest, try taking his teleporter, this may catch him off guard and give you the advantage." Percussorem 20:04, 25 March 2012 (PDT)
    • I think this is already sufficiently covered by "Tip_8_20" "As a Spy, you can take enemy Teleporters. Surprise!". -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
      • Pictogram info.png Notice Rejecting this tip tomorrow, unless there are any suggested changes/discussions regarding it. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Capture the flag

  • "When playing Capture the Flag, If you're headed back to your base with the intelligence and a friendly Scout runs by you, press L to drop the intelligence so that he can get it to the base faster." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "When playing Capture the Flag, you can drop the Intelligence by pressing %dropitem%. Consider passing the Intelligence to faster or stronger classes to get it safely to your base." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

General

  • "If you need to retreat from a fight, try to get to a location with a friendly Sentry nearby. Any enemy foolish enough to follow you will meet an untimely end while you recover." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "If you need to retreat from a fight, try to stay near teammates or Engineer nests for protection while you recover." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "Shoot the Medic first! Your enemies will be much easier to kill when their health isn't constantly regenerating." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "An enemy Medic is able to regenerate enemies' health in fights. Consider focusing your attack on the enemy Medic to better your teams chances of winning the fight." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "If you see an enemy covered in Jarate, take that chance to finish them off before its effect wears off." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "Enemies coated in Jarate take damage as Mini-crits. Take the chance to finish them off before the Jarate wears off." -RJ
  • "If you spot a friendly Medic alone, accompany him until you regroup with your team. You both stand a better chance surviving together than you do alone." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "If you spot a friendly Medic alone, accompany him until you regroup with your team. You both stand a better chance surviving together, and the Medic is able to build Ubercharge while healing you." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "If your Medic suddenly stops healing you, watch out; a Spy might have just backstabbed him, and is behind you poising for a second kill." Citizen Snips 18:24, 24 March 2012 (PDT)
    • Any good Medic will constantly switch healing targets when manoeuvring through maps... I think this tip might provoke a bad habbit - distracting players from objectives whenever a medic changes heal target. -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Payload Race

  • "Watch out for the cart's timer. If it reaches 0, the cart will start to go back until an ally player touches it!" GianAwesome 12:00, 25 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "Keep an eye on the Payload cart's timer. If it reaches 0, the cart will start moving backwards until a teammate touches it!" -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As an Engineer, your Sentry Guns are more usefull while defending. If you're attacking, focus on building Teleporters and Dispensers so your team can move the cart." GianAwesome 12:00, 25 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As an Engineer in Payload Race you can assume either an offensive or defensive role. If offensive: Focus on building Teleporters and Dispencers to help your team hold a front line; and if defensive: Build and protect a Sentry Gun to help keep the enemies from gaining ground." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Medieval Mode

  • "As a Medic, taunting with your Amputator will allow you to heal surrounding allies. Be warned: you'll be defenseless while doing so!" ~Sven 10:27, 25 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As a Medic, taunting with your Amputator heals surrounding allies. Be careful! You are unable to move or fight while doing so." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
  • "As a Heavy, avoid using the Fists of Steel. While defending well against arrows, you make yourself twice as vulnerable to melee weapons!" ~Sven 10:27, 25 March 2012 (PDT)
    • "As a Heavy, avoid using the Fists of Steel in Medieval Mode. While providing good protection against arrows, you are twice as vulnerable to the more prominent threat of melee attacks." -RJ 13:32, 29 March 2012 (PDT)
