Some notes I should point out since this is linked to on the front page:
- There is a bug causing startmovie (name) avi to use the DivX codec. (Prints "FIXME: DivX only for now" in console) and
- The current Source Recorder video is unavailable due to it being removed. --ANormalUsername 04:25, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
startmovie mymovie h264 Error?
I don't want to bother with using an external video editor to piece together individual frames if I can help it; when I try to use the startmovie command with the h264 argument, the demo plays back much faster than 100% (even though it is at the default speed) and no output files are saved, as far as I can tell. Is this broken, too? Vaati 006 12:50, 2 February 2013 (PST)
- It should be in the same location the individual frames should be. See the article for the path. I would assume why it is playing faster is because it can render the required frames faster than real time (ex: a 30fps video on a machine that can do 60fps with a fast hard drive). sound doesn't save?
I went through the whole process with the startmovie command, started editing, then noticed there was no sound file saved. Is it possibly because I loaded the demo before executing the startmovie command? Rade (talk) 15:57, 11 February 2016 (PST)

Is Kuiper's movie creation method confirmed to work?
I tried it, didn't seem to succeed. Not sure if I did everything correctly, so I'm asking here. ⇒ Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 09:26, 14 March 2017 (PDT)
- I have no video experience other than the couple of Replays I made. Today, I made an adequate short AVI by following the main instructions in the Movie Creation Tutorial and using VirtualDub.
- I then tried the Kuiper method and managed to make an Mpg4 (rather than the MOV the instructions say should result).
- Issues with Kuiper:
- There was no option offered to select from any list of codecs.
- The demoui console was recorded in the mpeg, so the result was unusable; but, this effect may be a mistake of mine.
- With more practice, I might get the Kuiper method right, but with the main method, especially with the mark-in and mark-out controls I can get the edit I want in the rendered video.
- But a clear issue with either method is that the tools have changed from the configuration the OP used and one has to fill in the blanks or recognize and correct for the tool changes.
- In short, the instructions are at best out of date. Mikado282 (talk) 12:40, 23 April 2017 (PDT)
- This page is currently listed as 'outdated' -- if you find anything that didn't work, feel free to remove it.
- RE: The guide, here's the original link [1]. It's from 2009... I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work at all. IIRC SrcDemo2 is in semi-active state, pretty sure User:WindPower or User:Armisael could answer questions about it. However, it's basically just a wrapper for the .tga creation process, so I'd just do that instead if you can't get it working. Darkid « Talk — Contribs » 15:37, 23 April 2017 (PDT)
- My plan is to work more with the .tga/VirtualDub method, figure out the VirtualDub improvements since the OP, then update the article when I am then thus qualified. There are a few videos I have long wanted to do, but for the lack Replay servers. Yeah, the Kuiper is likely to go then, unless someone else updates it. Thank you for the link and history.
