+ | : As I said in my summary, we don't know if it's an actual ARG yet. + | the mvm update? the pyromania update? they all used a form of hidden message,this is another hidden message, a message that my freind, arrran weeviling is trying to decode so, to me its ARG, a mystery that we, the tf2 community must solve, now are you with me or not?

+ | : We don't know if this is an actual hidden message or just an update tease. We know that Valve are working on things for the next year, and it wouldn't be the first time Valve have added something like this to the game/the game files that's just hinting at an update, rather than being part of an ARG. Until there is more evidence to support this being an ARG, it shouldn't be added to the ARG page. In addition, you should sign your posts on talk pages with <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>. + | == Correct order for templates? ==
+ | |||
+ | Hey, | ||
+ | |||
+ | I'm somewhat new to wiki editing, so this probably seems like a dumb question, but here goes. I have made a few minor edits to the Collector's table template, and each time, the items I add are re-ordered. What is the proper order for items like that, so I don't keep messing it up in the future? - [[User:Sventlin|Sventlin]] ([[User talk:Sventlin|talk]]) 15:54, 3 February 2014 (PST)
+ | : The Collector's template has the items listed in order they were released, and I've then been putting them in alphabetical order if multiple items were released at the same time. Other templates will have it differently, but I think most do have them in the order of release date. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 15:57, 3 February 2014 (PST)
+ | ::Awesome, thanks for the response. I'll make sure to do that from now on, when I add new stuff in :D --[[User:Sventlin|Sventlin]] ([[User talk:Sventlin|talk]]) 16:04, 3 February 2014 (PST)

+ | Hello, sorry for probably a stupid question, but how you add only body in model viewer with cloth? Thx in advance!
+ | : As, for example, here - [[Golden_Garment#Painted_variants|Golden_Garment]]. + | :: You'd have to either edit the model or edit the textures to only display that portion of the body. I've got the textures I used for the Golden Garment and [[Outback Intellectual]], but I haven't really looked into the Toowoomba Tunic yet, so I'm not sure if that would fit. If you can work it out, though, you can go ahead and do it, yeah. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 10:01, 10 February 2014 (PST)

+ | :: After looking through all of the files relating to the tours, I managed to find it! For some reason, Valve didn't put it in the generic template file for the bots, but instead the individual files for the tours. + | == Help me with an image ==
+ | |||
+ | Hello Omolong, can you help me on this [[User:Gabrielwoj/Sandbox|image]]? The biggest issue is the transparent part of the glass, I have no idea how to remove it. I also used gray background on HLMV because white doesn't look good with glasses.
+ | |||
+ | This will be used in the [[Halloween Spells]] below the trivia, on the gallery.
+ | |||
+ | Thanks! [[User:Gabrielwoj|Gabrielwoj]] ([[User talk:Gabrielwoj|talk]]) 05:50, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | : To make something transparent, I normally set a white background, take a screenshot, then set a black background and take a screenshot of that. I then put them both in the same file in Photoshop as separate layers, then set the blending of the top one (normally the black one) to difference. Then I hold CTRL and left mouse click on the RGB channel, and then use that to get rid of the background and sort out the areas that need to be transparent. You can just delete it or use an alpha mask to change it, depends on what you're more comfortable with. After that, I then just crop it down, save it, and then upload it. Hope that helps. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 15:08, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | :: Putting the white background on that situation doesn't really helps (the reflection looks invisible if set to white). I also don't own Photoshop, I have GIMP and Paint.NET. Thanks anyway. [[User:Gabrielwoj|Gabrielwoj]] ([[User talk:Gabrielwoj|talk]]) 19:01, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | ::: [[http://i.imgur.com/woLRGas.png Image]] - I tried. Try getting this image and create a new layer below the image one, and add a solid color. [[User:Gabrielwoj|Gabrielwoj]] ([[User talk:Gabrielwoj|talk]]) 19:35, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | :::: Yeah, the white background doesn't seem like it would help, but it's that with the black background and the blending set to difference that solves the problems with transparency. It's how I've done most of my images where a section needs to be transparent, and I got the instructions for it from Cobaltcakes, who uses that method as well. I have no idea how the instructions would change for GIMP or Paint.Net, but considering your image (which looks pretty good, other than jagged edges and the cubemap, but that second thing is pretty minor), do you have any suggestions for the differences in instructions for either of those programs? I plan on adding this to a page at some point, I just to get some instructions for people who don't own Photoshop and work out what page it should be on. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 20:21, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | ::::: The GIMP I use for removing backgrounds (screenshot from HLMV) [I haven't used on that one], and the paint.net for many of my edits. For doing that potion image, I made the hlmv background as olive green, and imported to paint.net. I got the glass parts and made it black and white, and applied a transparency to it. I'll try to revamp the image by cutting the BG with GIMP. [[User:Gabrielwoj|Gabrielwoj]] ([[User talk:Gabrielwoj|talk]]) 20:33, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | :::::: Ah, I think that makes sense. Well, using my method I got [http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24970273/TF2/Wiki/MerasmusPotion.png this]. It's not perfect (the angle is pretty awful and there are some jagged edges I could tidy up), but that's the sort of thing I'd get through using the way I suggested. Dunno how much better that is for you or anything. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 20:45, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
+ | ::::::: I revamped again, I used the GIMP to remove the bg (the previous one I only used paint.net), and sharped the edges. +
+ | [[User:Gabrielwoj|Gabrielwoj]] ([[User talk:Gabrielwoj|talk]]) 13:25, 18 May 2014 (PDT)

Now after I've fixed, it's only showing to the English page (the [[:File:Steamworkshop tf2 crocodile smile thumb.jpg]] is working correctly, as the only pages that has this file redirected are "es" and English, but the other one is still showing only the English page, even though all the translated pages has the [[:File:Crocodile Smile.png]]). + | Is it uncommon to use sandboxes on this wiki, or am I just not doin' it right? Is there a way that I don't know about and can't find in Help to keep from "spamming" Recent changes log with sandbox edits? Or is there a different way? I like to edit in a sandbox so I can take more time to experiment, study, and learn. Plus, as I say, usually don't have much uninterrupted time here, and hate to leave a partial edit to put out a fire, or to sleep. [[User:Mikado282|Mikado282]] ([[User talk:Mikado282|talk]]) 19:16, 17 July 2014 (PDT)
+ | : It is pretty uncommon, but then a lot of users don't make large changes to pages, and if they do, it's mostly just done in one go (or at least, that's how I've been doing it). But yeah, sandboxes are mostly used for experimentation with wiki stuff I think (though, that doesn't mean you shouldn't use show preview, of course), and for storing edits that you aren't able to complete and want to be accessible on another machine or something. That's the general point that I've gathered for them, anyway. It's entirely possible that someone else might have a different or better viewpoint on this. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 19:22, 17 July 2014 (PDT)
+ | ::One of the tasks that interests me is reworking pages that have been modified piecemeal over time. Sometimes this involves setting up a rational hyperlink network and I like to see those working a before the commit. I am also learning the loosely documented TF2 wiki-specific templates in particular as I go. All that might be what is meant by "experimenting with wiki stuff"; but I see it as drafting and proofing. The question of using preview is separate from the question of drafting and proofing, the first is a tool of the latter are methods. (BTW, I prefer TF2's preview setup to Wikipedia's). I guess the question is should I worry about my sandbox edits annoying the editors that monitor the Recent Changes page (which I am thinking now was the point of [[User_talk:Darkid|Darkid's]] comment [[User talk:Mikado282#|here]]), or should I figure that they understand and accept it? Another thing I am fishing for here is suggestions of alternatives to what I am wanting to us the sandbox for, like any particular offline editor I should be using that can render the TF2 links and Templates (additionally without polluting the "What links here" function)? + | Hi Omolong,
+ | |||
+ | In the recent edit, to "Template:Limited quantity table" I can see you were aiming for some reoganization, but in the process all of the festive weapons have been removed. Is there a reason for this or simply an accident? I'm new to editing Wikis and don't want to step on the feet of somebody who is far more experienced such as yourself.
+ | |||
+ | Secondly, what was the logic behind the organization there? Specifically in the ordering of cosmetics, so I can follow this in future too.
+ | |||
+ | [[User:Dirt Diglett|Dirt Diglett]] ([[User talk:Dirt Diglett|talk]]) 21:35, 20 September 2014 (PDT)
+ | |||
+ | : Items are listed by release date, so that's why the cosmetics are ordered that way. The Festive weapons haven't been removed, they were simply just moved into a single option in the all class section. Seeing as they're all marked as Limited, and they all link to the same place, there's no need to have a link for every single one. I believe that most other templates do it this way as well. I know that you mentioned you saw this on the other talk page, but I thought I'd give you the explanation here. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 21:41, 20 September 2014 (PDT)

If you're absolutely sure that we need a demonstration, go post a message on the [[Team Fortress Wiki:Weapon Demonstration|Weapon Demonstration]] talk page. + | == Editing Promo Items Template ==
+ | |||
+ | Hi there. When editing the promotional items template, please remember that all sections of the template can only go up to list19 before needing to restart from list1 in a new section. List20 must always be the restarting point for the next section, because that's the last list a template section will read. If adding a new promo list pushes that section past list19, move every list past list19 into the next section, and adjust its list numbers accordingly, as I have done with my latest revision of the template. Use that as an example, if my summary of it is unclear. Thank you! -[[User:MarioMaster2008|MarioMaster2008]] ([[User talk:MarioMaster2008|talk]]) 00:19, 4 December 2014 (PST)

+ | |||
+ | I do believe the sentence ''' "The Bushman's Bristles are a community-created cosmetic item for the Sniper" ''' is wrong in a way. It is just one item, so technicly it should be "is" as it is singular.
+ | |||
+ | Even if you would use "are" in the sentence, than it should still be multiple items, making the sentence ''' "The Bushman's Bristles are community-created cosmetic items for the Sniper" ''' . I might be mistaking, but i would check once more... thanks for your time anyway --[[User:CaptainCookieCrunch!|CaptainCookieCrunch!]] ([[User talk:CaptainCookieCrunch!|talk]]) 14:05, 29 December 2014 (PST)
+ | : I think "is" would be a better fit aswell. [[User:ScottishDrunkard|ScottishDrunkard]] ([[User talk:ScottishDrunkard|talk]]) 14:21, 29 December 2014 (PST)
+ | :: To me, "are" sounds correct, due to the item's name being a plural (Bushman's Bristles, instead of Bushman's Bristle), whereas other people (evidently) would think that "is" sounds correct. I have looked it up, and I've struggled to find something that makes it completely clear which one is the correct one to use in this particular situation. I believe that most pages for items with plural names do use "are" instead of "is" though, which is a large part of why I reverted it back to the original wording. I'd say that it's better to make sure that the wording is consistent with how other pages are set up. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 14:43, 29 December 2014 (PST)

+ | |||
+ | What I meant was, if you type tf_taunt_first_person 1 ('''WITHOUT''' cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1), you will see bite marks in the sandvich. It only puts your view in the character's head '''if you type cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1''' first. Try it out, it actually works.
+ | |||
+ | Once again: | ||
+ | Make sure cl_first_person_uses_world_model is set to 0, Type tf_taunt_first_person 1, and eat a sandvich. You will see bite marks.

I'm not really sure it should be on the page anyway, seeing as it does remove your ability to see the rest of your taunts in third person (which is a big thing for taunt kills), and it could confuse players that don't understand the console very well. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 16:36, 29 December 2014 (PST)

+ | == Regarding this revert ==
+ | |||
+ | [https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Spectre%27s_Spectacles&oldid=1844422&diff=prev here] - I edited that because of the item creator currently having a vulgar word ("fuck") in his username, automatically showing up in the link by way of taking data from his Steam profile. My edit removed the vulgar word while still linking properly to the item. I'm not a prude, but does this wiki have a policy about profanity? You never know who might seriously complain. [[User:Dogman15|Dogman15]] ([[User talk:Dogman15|talk]]) 04:46, 2 January 2015 (PST)
+ | : I'm not sure if there's an actual policy about profanity, but I don't think there's an issue with it in this sort of situation. Obviously we shouldn't include profanity in the main content of pages, but we can't really help what users make their usernames. I'm pretty sure there are other places on the wiki where similar language is used in other valid situations, though I can't think of any specific examples of it right now. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 04:56, 2 January 2015 (PST)

+ | == Rocket Launcher Projectiles Dependent On Viewmodel ==
+ | |||
+ | Firstly, I think rockets coming out slightly to the left/right is something a new player doesn't know (when I first started playing, I thought the projectile leaning to the left was cosmetic and the actual hitbox was centralised), and thus definitely deserves a mention. This information helps with close–quarters combat a lot. Furthermore, the Grenade Launcher page already states as such for it's projectiles so I don't see why not state the same for the Rocket Launcher. Sidegrade weapons (except the Original, of course) need not state this though, as they can be assumed to have the same projectile system as their Stock versions.
+ | |||
+ | Secondly, as a player using flipped viewmodels, I know from experience that rockets come out slightly to the left instead of right, as with other projectile weapons such as the Grenade Launcher. [[User:Green5|Green5]] ([[User talk:Green5|talk]]) 06:36, 2 January 2015 (PST)

+ | == Why revert? == | ||
+ | |||
+ | You reverted my Smissmas 2014 edit. I agree that is probably not necessary but i think that it help translators that base translation on english page because they won't have to translate every link one by one. [[User:Anakin100|Anakin100]] ([[User talk:Anakin100|talk]]) 08:23, 20 January 2015 (PST)
+ | : Adding those changes into the page just increases the page size and can cause the page to load more slowly. Additionally, it's a bit more confusing to have the {{tl|if lang}} template in a normal page, seeing as it is mostly just used for links in templates. Most of the links you changed can be automatically translated by {{tl|item link}}, as well (though that is equally unnecessary for the English page). I am pretty sure that translating links and everything is covered in the translation guide anyway. --[[User:Omolong|Omolong]] ([[User talk:Omolong|talk]]) 08:52, 20 January 2015 (PST)

+ | == Demoman Primary Template ==
+ | |||
+ | The Demoman template for primary weapons {{tl|Class weapons table demoman primary}} incorrectly states that the grenade launcher does 180 on a direct hit crit, that is incorrect, as it does 300 on a direct hit. [[User:Quintdamage|Quintdamage]] ([[User talk:Quintdamage|talk]]) 13:06, 11 February 2015 (PST)
+ | : No it doesn't, the template clearly says that it does 300 damage on a direct critical hit, and 190 after bouncing. The only weapon on there that does 180 damage on a direct critical hit is the Loose Cannon, which does less damage by default. I don't see why you posted on my talk page about it anyway. How'd you find him and how do you know it is him for sure? Thanks though. – Smashman (talk) 12:31, 26 June 2013 (PDT)
- We had the item id/serial of his pin on that page, and that tf2items.com page you linked me to had a list of the item ids. I search for the item id from the wiki, and found it matched up to one on that page. His Polycount account and his Steam account both say they're in Canada as well. I also found six other accounts missing, and I found three other people thanks to a page on the Polycount forums, I just can't seem to find any associated Steam accounts to those three. I just wanted to mention it to you in case you wanted to see the accounts before I added what I found to the pages. --Omolong (talk) 12:40, 26 June 2013 (PDT)

How can I check is item is paintable or not? I'm kinda a little bit lost. Thnak you for your advice :3 Goora (talk) 11:32, 27 July 2013 (PDT)
- If you go into the Mann Co Catalog, and look through it for your item, it will say which tools can be used on it, like Name Tags, Description Tags and so on. If there is something called Paint Can in amongst that, then that item is paintable. If not, then it's not paintable. Another way to do it would be to look through the schema for it, but that's a bit more awkward. Though, it doesn't rely on the item server being up, which the Catalog does. --Omolong (talk) 11:36, 27 July 2013 (PDT)

I saw you added a lot of template that should use on another page except English like {{common string}} {{item link}}, which should be use on another language pages. Please revert back your own edits because if on single page have too many templates, it'll take a longer time to load and those templates aren't necessary one. - Your edit I reverted in the past was because the page already said that the item was a reference to Hellboy, so it didn't need restating. This time around, I reverted your edit because the information you removed was the only part of the page that said the item was a reference to Hellboy, so obviously it was still needed on the page. Hope this helps. --Omolong (talk) 17:37, 22 December 2013 (PST)
I, for one, am wondering, why, firstly, you posted this on a section made by another user, and why you are still removing the trivia, even if people have warned you that it IS a reference to Hellboy. Also that wording is pretty poor and i can barely understand what you are saying, please try to be clearer next time. Lumpy3 (talk) 17:38, 22 December 2013 (PST)
When I first did the edit, I am not being angry or anything like that, I read the page and it did not say anything about Hellboy. I was just questioning. The one time it was not saying somebody deleted my edit for the one soldier Halloween misc, it was not saying somebody was reverting it okay. I am still calm as of now. I did not know of anywhere else to ask this since he was the one to revert it. Legomaster445 (talk) 17:42, 22 December 2013 (PST)

This Reddit post has an Imgur album (link here) showing the Diary on the Medic from a few angles. I can get the relevant stuff from the schema as well, if needed. - As I said in my summary, we don't know if it's an actual ARG yet. It could just be Valve teasing a future update, or it could potentially be an ARG, it'll be hard to be certain until we get more info to do with it. --Omolong (talk) 05:52, 31 December 2013 (PST)
the mvm update? the pyromania update? they all used a form of hidden message,this is another hidden message, a message that my freind, arrran weeviling is trying to decode so, to me its ARG, a mystery that we, the tf2 community must solve, now are you with me or not? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Eggmantheheavy (talk) • (contribs)
- We don't know if this is an actual hidden message or just an update tease. We know that Valve are working on things for the next year, and it wouldn't be the first time Valve have added something like this to the game/the game files that's just hinting at an update, rather than being part of an ARG. Until there is more evidence to support this being an ARG, it shouldn't be added to the ARG page. In addition, you should sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~. Correct order for templates?
Hey,
I'm somewhat new to wiki editing, so this probably seems like a dumb question, but here goes. I have made a few minor edits to the Collector's table template, and each time, the items I add are re-ordered. What is the proper order for items like that, so I don't keep messing it up in the future? - Sventlin (talk) 15:54, 3 February 2014 (PST)
- The Collector's template has the items listed in order they were released, and I've then been putting them in alphabetical order if multiple items were released at the same time. Other templates will have it differently, but I think most do have them in the order of release date. --Omolong (talk) 15:57, 3 February 2014 (PST)

Hello, sorry for probably a stupid question, but how you add only body in model viewer with cloth? Thx in advance!
- As, for example, here - Golden_Garment. By the way, can i do Painted variants for Toowoomba Tunic? :> (/) 23:41, 9 February 2014 (PST)
- You'd have to either edit the model or edit the textures to only display that portion of the body. I've got the textures I used for the Golden Garment and Outback Intellectual, but I haven't really looked into the Toowoomba Tunic yet, so I'm not sure if that would fit. If you can work it out, though, you can go ahead and do it, yeah. --Omolong (talk) 10:01, 10 February 2014 (PST)

- There were two reasons. The primary reason was to show the inside of that hat more, as the paint extends in there. Secondly, a few of them weren't properly cropped, and some of them had large white chunks on the bottom of them, which made them look weird in the painted variants table. Hope that helps. --Omolong (talk) 20:18, 15 February 2014 (PST)
And one question "Why do you do Painted variants from the side?" example. I think that not very beautiful. -- (/) 21:55, 15 February 2014 (PST)
- That's pretty much just because that's the standard that I saw set on a lot of items that already had painted images. I can't think of any specific examples other than Scout items right now, though. --Omolong (talk) 22:39, 15 February 2014 (PST)

- As it said in my edit summary, none of the bots are set to have the Menpo equipped. Dunno why it's appearing like that for you. --Omolong (talk) 10:22, 28 April 2014 (PDT)
Maybe its 2nd type of Samurai robot? Or exclusive for boss-fight? Or you playing with mods? Before April 24, 2014 Patch , I cant seen Menpo too. But after... I should play Mann Up and check another missions. Morton249 (talk) 10:36, 28 April 2014 (PDT)
- I have no idea why it's happening at all, but my mods wouldn't have any effect on it. I've checked the two files in the game files that list the robot types, and I can't find anything related to the Menpo in either of them. Unless someone else can think of anything that might cause this? --Omolong (talk) 10:39, 28 April 2014 (PDT)
I just played EE on official server and I found this. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=254268470 Without Menpo. But this version of Samurai isn't Crit boosted. Version from HH mission is Crit boosted and with Menpo. Next time, I will test MM mission... So, after testing I got this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=254287972 . So, I can said, its exclusive type2 Robot for HH with 100% crits and Menpo. Morton249 (talk) 13:25, 28 April 2014 (PDT)
- If you were definitely playing on an official server when you found this, then it's pretty odd, as I wasn't able to find it in the files. I'll have another look through the files though, I might have missed it somehow. --Omolong (talk) 13:27, 28 April 2014 (PDT)
- After looking through all of the files relating to the tours, I managed to find it! For some reason, Valve didn't put it in the generic template file for the bots, but instead the individual files for the tours. I found a bunch of other unlisted robots too, which I'm going to go through to find out what needs adding. Thanks for bringing all of this up. --Omolong (talk) 14:04, 28 April 2014 (PDT)
Help me with an image
Hello Omolong, can you help me on this image? The biggest issue is the transparent part of the glass, I have no idea how to remove it. I also used gray background on HLMV because white doesn't look good with glasses.
This will be used in the Halloween Spells below the trivia, on the gallery.
Thanks! Gabrielwoj (talk) 05:50, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- To make something transparent, I normally set a white background, take a screenshot, then set a black background and take a screenshot of that. --Omolong (talk) 15:08, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- Putting the white background on that situation doesn't really helps (the reflection looks invisible if set to white). I also don't own Photoshop, I have GIMP and Paint.NET. Thanks anyway. Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:01, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- [Image] - I tried. Try getting this image and create a new layer below the image one, and add a solid color. Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:35, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- Yeah, the white background doesn't seem like it would help, but it's that with the black background and the blending set to difference that solves the problems with transparency. --Omolong (talk) 20:21, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- The GIMP I use for removing backgrounds (screenshot from HLMV) [I haven't used on that one], and the paint.net for many of my edits. For doing that potion image, I made the hlmv background as olive green, and imported to paint.net. I got the glass parts and made it black and white, and applied a transparency to it. I'll try to revamp the image by cutting the BG with GIMP. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:33, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- Ah, I think that makes sense. Well, using my method I got this. It's not perfect (the angle is pretty awful and there are some jagged edges I could tidy up), but that's the sort of thing I'd get through using the way I suggested. Dunno how much better that is for you or anything. --Omolong (talk) 20:45, 11 May 2014 (PDT)
- I revamped again, I used the GIMP to remove the bg (the previous one I only used paint.net), and sharped the edges. This is the final result: [Image] - The difference of mine and yours is the reflection on the glass. Yours looks better in terms of quality, but it's still crops. I want to add this image to the Halloween Spells page, as I've noted in the trivia about the model. Thanks for the help so far. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:55, 11 May 2014 (PDT)

Prize Plushy images - What do you think?
After about 2 hours editing those images, I've finally finished the Prize Plushy new images. What do you think of them?

As the needimage note on the Prize Plushy page, I've done it similar to Scarecrow.

Weird file usage in an image
I was editing the Crocodile Smile page, and I have noticed the Steam Workshop image was wrong. I've visited the infobox preview image, and only the English page is listed on the File Usage, but, all the languages has the Crocodile Smile preview at the right. I suppose that the bot will push it later?
Page: File:Crocodile_Smile.png
About the wrong image, the Steam Workshop image was the same as the one shown in the infobox. However, as I noted in the summary, the steam workshop thumbnail is smaller, has a white background and the arms doesn't show too much as the infobox image does.
Gabrielwoj (talk) 13:25, 18 May 2014 (PDT)
- I think that all of the other language pages are using a redirect to that image, though I dunno why that isn't showing up too. It's weird. I didn't know about that Steam Workshop image though, that's interesting to know. --Omolong (talk) 14:17, 18 May 2014 (PDT)
- Alright. Let's wait some days to see if anything happens. Also, only the English and Español page has the steam workshop images, both had that problem, and I edited both. Before I made the edit on the steam workshop image, I clicked on the infobox image, and it shown two file usage pages, the English page and the Español page. Now after I've fixed, it's only showing to the English page (the File:Steamworkshop tf2 crocodile smile thumb.jpg is working correctly, as the only pages that has this file redirected are "es" and English, but the other one is still showing only the English page, even though all the translated pages has the File:Crocodile Smile.png). I think the File Usage in the image page isn't working on the infobox image. Thanks. Gabrielwoj (talk) 14:40, 18 May 2014 (PDT)

Decal tool images (on the Decal Tool gallery section)
The Decal tool images found in the gallery are outdated (filters no longer exist) and out of order. The terms of service image shows an objector, instead of the photo badge. I did the three pictures again, but, I really haven't saw that those were .png, and I've did on steam screenshot manager (which saves in .jpg). I was pretty dumb on my part, I should print screen instead, but I really haven't seen the file format that the decal tool images were using [notice that the third image with the objector is a .jpg file].
But anyways, here are the pictures that I've made: [Pictures on Imgur].
- I think if you can get a version of the images in .png format, that'd be great. If you can't, though, feel free to upload those images and then change the ones on the page to point to the ones you've uploaded. If you could change the images on all of the language pages for the Decal Tool too, the old images could be marked for deletion. --Omolong (talk) 07:37, 1 June 2014 (PDT)
- You know what? I'll later do it. After I get another photo badge and a decal, I do in every language that tf2 supports it. And I'll take a screenshot of every step (with print screen this time). You mention to change the ones in decal tool with my .jpg ones, however, it doesn't work to upload a file that it's .png, unless creating a new one and marking the older for for deletion. ▪ - 08:23, 1 June 2014 (PDT)
- Yeah, I did mean to create new images and then mark the older ones for deletion, if it's not possible to overwrite the existing images. --Omolong (talk) 08:35, 1 June 2014 (PDT)
- So can I upload it even being .jpg ones? Then I'll need to edit every language that Decal Tool page has to update the gallery. In the future, when I get another photo badge and a decal, I take better screenshots and also take screenshots from the supported tf2 languages (I don't know if Japanese/Chinese/etc. is going to work, due the special letters). Thanks. ▪ - 08:39, 1 June 2014 (PDT)
- Yeah, it should be fine to upload as .jpg. The images have a good reason to be uploaded, and their original format is .jpg, so I don't think there would be any issue with it. And yeah, I meant that the gallery for all the language pages should be updated too. --Omolong (talk) 08:47, 1 June 2014 (PDT)

Powerjack 2D Image
Hi, I've made an antialias for the Powerjack image, but I'm not sure if it looks good: [Imgur]. ▪ - 08:32, 7 June 2014 (PDT)
Good news!
Sorry to post another topic to your Usertalk, but, I was able to put anti-alias on HLMV, simply by putting the stuff on "Intel Unknown" string. A page that I really want to fix is the Bill's Hat, the images doesn't look good. The model is in a bad position (I guess the best would be showing "curvy" thing on the hat). The position is also showing the interior of the hat, which is not needed.
I've made a Mock-up for the position. I've dummied the fire overlay file, got the anti-alias stuff to work and etc. I just need to know if this position is good enough for I start working on the pictures, background removal, and adding feather on the image.
Thanks a lot, buddy!

- It was actually the lack of the item icon that meant it wouldn't show up. Most of these sorts of templates use item icons rather than backpack images. The backpack image would have had to be resized anyway, they should all be 512 pixels by 512 pixels. --Omolong (talk) 19:38, 19 June 2014 (PDT)
- Thanks, you just beat me to putting the category on Headgear. Mikado282 (talk) 20:40, 19 June 2014 (PDT)
- I see your size change, I misunderstood that the red 100x100px mean the size limit, but see now that that is the resize of the template operation. You know, if you'd wait 10 minutes longer on adding the categories, you's save some typing. :) Mikado282 (talk) 20:54, 19 June 2014 (PDT)
- Yeah, the templates that use item icons or backpack images can be pretty unclear what they want sometimes. And I couldn't be sure if the categories were going to be fixed, so I just went ahead and fixed them anyway. --Omolong (talk) 21:16, 19 June 2014 (PDT)

I'd like to get in contact.
Hey man, I'm new to this whole "Wiki Editting" thing. It's all massively confusing and I hate reading whole on pages of information. I'd like to talk to you about contributing. I'm terrible with talking like this, so just email me or message me on Steam.
Just a little tidbit, BTW, I spent about 2 hours making all those photos for the Razor Cut just to see them instantly get shoved aside for yours, so, I'm a little unnerved. thepix3lator@gmail.com or http://steamcommunity.com/id/imsosorrybro Hath (talk) 17:47, 21 June 2014 (PDT)
Question regardless about uploading files.
I've read somewhere that you simply need to add {{subst:pid}} when uploading an image that is related to paint cans previews. Was that changed? I just saw your edit about the categories on the Gas Guzzler. Thank you. ▪ - 13:38, 22 June 2014 (PDT)
- I get it now. Unpainted ones shouldn't use the template, however, items that has "UNPAINTED" on the file name structure I still use the template? For example: File:Painted Tipped Lid UNPAINTED.png ▪ - 13:42, 22 June 2014 (PDT)
Man in Slacks
How did you got Man in Slacks to work on HLMV? For me, the cosmetic doesn't look right, it's fully black, with no textures, and odd lighting. Did you changed something on the material? ▪ - 12:59, 26 June 2014 (PDT)
- The VMT just has a $color2 line with no proxies or other relevant lines in the VMT. This doesn't seem to do anything ingame, but in HLMV, it just makes the whole texture whatever colour is set in $color2. So I just deleted the line and it worked. --Omolong (talk) 13:02, 26 June 2014 (PDT)
Monitor
I was able to use another monitor, which is really big. However, since it's someone else's monitor, I won't be using every time, but I'll try re-doing some of the "Item Set" images to a bigger size. Future paint items will be done on this new monitor. ▪ - 15:19, 6 July 2014 (PDT)
Glitched Circuit Board image request
I do believe the page needs a better infobox image (a character wearing the item) and the 9 classes wearing it gallery - as all other multiple class cosmetic have. --Kid Of The Century (talk) 02:34, 8 July 2014 (PDT)
- The item doesn't have a model ingame, like the Barely-Melted Capacitor --Omolong (talk) 07:12, 8 July 2014 (PDT)
- My bad, then. Those pages should mention that -albeit technically cosmetic- they don't change the player's appearance... --Kid Of The Century (talk) 02:11, 10 July 2014 (PDT)

Sandbox
Is it uncommon to use sandboxes on this wiki, or am I just not doin' it right? Is there a way that I don't know about and can't find in Help to keep from "spamming" Recent changes log with sandbox edits? Or is there a different way? I like to edit in a sandbox so I can take more time to experiment, study, and learn. Plus, as I say, usually don't have much uninterrupted time here, and hate to leave a partial edit to put out a fire, or to sleep. Mikado282 (talk) 19:16, 17 July 2014 (PDT)
- It is pretty uncommon, but then a lot of users don't make large changes to pages, and if they do, it's mostly just done in one go (or at least, that's how I've been doing it). --Omolong (talk) 19:22, 17 July 2014 (PDT)
- One of the tasks that interests me is reworking pages that have been modified piecemeal over time. I guess the question is should I worry about my sandbox edits annoying the editors that monitor the Recent Changes page (which I am thinking now was the point of Darkid's comment here), or should I figure that they understand and accept it? Another thing I am fishing for here is suggestions of alternatives to what I am wanting to us the sandbox for, like any particular offline editor I should be using that can render the TF2 links and Templates (additionally without polluting the "What links here" function)? Mikado282 (talk) 07:32, 19 July 2014 (PDT)
- There are a few categories or something that hold the templates, but I've got no idea what they are off the top of my head. I'm not particular bothered by the sandbox edits (as long as they're kept in moderation), but it's possible that other users might be, it's hard for me to say really. And I've got no idea about offline editors. There are a few I think, but I've never really looked into them into enough detail to know what's good or not. --Omolong (talk) 09:43, 19 July 2014 (PDT)

Scout Melee 1st-person View Images
All scout melee 1st-person images (except for Bat and probably Sandman) are outdated, I decided to remake them because melee weapons' positions were updated with Love & War Update.
If you can remake those images with better quality yourself, go ahead. Mel0n (talk) 12:29, 3 September 2014 (PDT)

TF2 Horace
Currently Horace can NOT be traded or gifted and genuins have no craft number, there are only 2 of them so far, both self made. So at this time they they can't be traded. If that changes in the future, when released than ok but as right now they are NOT tradable. ```` — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Randinie (talk) • (contribs)
- Very few self-mades can be traded or gifted in general, so that's pretty irrelevant. The schema is set up for the item to be tradable, giftable, and have craft numbers. Once the item is distributed, provided that Valve make no changes, the item will be tradable and giftable. Additionally, almost all items now are set up to have craft numbers, even if they aren't craftable. --Omolong (talk) 16:39, 7 September 2014 (PDT)
Limited quantity table template
Hi Omolong,
In the recent edit, to "Template:Limited quantity table" I can see you were aiming for some reoganization, but in the process all of the festive weapons have been removed. Is there a reason for this or simply an accident? I'm new to editing Wikis and don't want to step on the feet of somebody who is far more experienced such as yourself.
Secondly, what was the logic behind the organization there? Specifically in the ordering of cosmetics, so I can follow this in future too.
Dirt Diglett (talk) 21:35, 20 September 2014 (PDT)
- Items are listed by release date, so that's why the cosmetics are ordered that way. --Omolong (talk) 21:41, 20 September 2014 (PDT)
About a recent "recorrection"
So you undid 4 of my latest trivia things. I suppose that's fine, and I do think perhaps most were slightly debatable. But I had a small issue with one of them:
How exactly does the Apoco-fists one not count?
"This is the only weapon that allows Heavy to gib players with".
I mean I'm not trying to be mean here, but personally I don't fully understand why this isn't trivia. If it truly isn't, can someone here guide me a bit on what the heck I'm supposed to put under trivia? I mean for Pete's sake I thought that one would be an okay one. I'm not too sure what the issue is.
Thanks.
P.S. Oh goody I don't have an existing page yet...might need to fix that...
Pyrochu1770 (talk) 17:18, 3 October 2014 (PDT)
- The Apoco-Fists and Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker fall under X of Y trivia. Look here for that. We don't need to note myths about crit chances for the Frying Pan and Ham Shank. Valve wouldn't have referenced the Ham Shank's description specifically in Unhappy Returns, seeing as a toothbrush shank/shiv is hardly an original concept. It's been around long before the weapon was put into the game. --Omolong (talk) 17:25, 3 October 2014 (PDT)
Why did you remove every demonstration video I put up?
In what way are they "Unnecessary"? Every unusual effect, every paintable item, every cosmetic effect of every kind has a demonstration in the form of an image or video. The spells have been up for 3 halloween events now without even an accurate description. The descriptions were finally updated but we still need visuals. I even crowdsourced this to find the best demonstration videos possible. Zoshi (talk) 14:20, 26 October 2014 (PDT)
- I think the descriptions are all pretty straight forward and don't really need demonstrations. We also don't have demonstrations for all of the tools, for various reasons. Additionally, the formatting of the video was put in completely incorrectly, and doesn't fit with how it's shown on any other pages. If you're absolutely sure that we need a demonstration, go post a message on the Weapon Demonstration talk page. It'd be better to get a demonstration that fits with how the rest of them are on the wiki, rather than some random one off of Youtube. --Omolong (talk) 14:41, 26 October 2014 (PDT)

Editing Promo Items Template
Hi there. Thank you! -MarioMaster2008 (talk) 00:19, 4 December 2014 (PST)
- Perhaps I should clarify that I meant the Promo Nav template; not the separate templates for active/expired promotional items. I apologize if this caused any confusion. -MarioMaster2008 (talk) 00:33, 4 December 2014 (PST)

About the mistake in the Bushman's Bristles article
I do believe the sentence "The Bushman's Bristles are a community-created cosmetic item for the Sniper" is wrong in a way. It is just one item, so technicly it should be "is" as it is singular.
Even if you would use "are" in the sentence, than it should still be multiple items, making the sentence "The Bushman's Bristles are community-created cosmetic items for the Sniper" . I might be mistaking, but i would check once more... thanks for your time anyway --CaptainCookieCrunch! (talk) 14:05, 29 December 2014 (PST)
- I think "is" would be a better fit aswell. ScottishDrunkard (talk) 14:21, 29 December 2014 (PST)
- To me, "are" sounds correct, due to the item's name being a plural (Bushman's Bristles, instead of Bushman's Bristle), whereas other people (evidently) would think that "is" sounds correct. --Omolong (talk) 14:43, 29 December 2014 (PST)
Sandvich - view bitten model in FP
What I meant was, if you type tf_taunt_first_person 1 (WITHOUT cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1), you will see bite marks in the sandvich. It only puts your view in the character's head if you type cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1 first. Try it out, it actually works.
Once again: Make sure cl_first_person_uses_world_model is set to 0, Type tf_taunt_first_person 1, and eat a sandvich. You will see bite marks. (also note that if you switch weapons and switch back, the sandvich will not be bitten)
Octorock888 (talk) 16:16, 29 December 2014 (PST)
- Right, I got the commands mixed up. I'm not really sure it should be on the page anyway, seeing as it does remove your ability to see the rest of your taunts in third person (which is a big thing for taunt kills), and it could confuse players that don't understand the console very well. --Omolong (talk) 16:36, 29 December 2014 (PST)
Regarding this revert
here - I edited that because of the item creator currently having a vulgar word ("fuck") in his username, automatically showing up in the link by way of taking data from his Steam profile. My edit removed the vulgar word while still linking properly to the item. I'm not a prude, but does this wiki have a policy about profanity? You never know who might seriously complain. Dogman15 (talk) 04:46, 2 January 2015 (PST)
- I'm not sure if there's an actual policy about profanity, but I don't think there's an issue with it in this sort of situation. Obviously we shouldn't include profanity in the main content of pages, but we can't really help what users make their usernames. I'm pretty sure there are other places on the wiki where similar language is used in other valid situations, though I can't think of any specific examples of it right now. --Omolong (talk) 04:56, 2 January 2015 (PST)
Rocket Launcher Projectiles Dependent On Viewmodel
Firstly, I think rockets coming out slightly to the left/right is something a new player doesn't know (when I first started playing, I thought the projectile leaning to the left was cosmetic and the actual hitbox was centralised), and thus definitely deserves a mention.
Secondly, as a player using flipped viewmodels, I know from experience that rockets come out slightly to the left instead of right, as with other projectile weapons such as the Grenade Launcher. Green5 (talk) 06:36, 2 January 2015 (PST)

- Ah, okay, I didn't know that other people had it as well. Still, it shouldn't have been on the Nostromo Napalmer page (as the bug isn't specific to that item at all), and using the blueprint template in the bug kinda makes it looks bad. --Omolong (talk) 17:14, 11 January 2015 (PST)

This is confusing
So you reverted my edit since the crossing guard is already on the respect class-specific strange item lists, yet it is all-class and available for all classes except Spy and Engie. The Frying Pan falls into this category but it is still on the all-class table, so is the Frying Pan an exception or is there a specific reason it's included? The Rim of the Sky (talk) 00:04, 15 January 2015 (PST)
- Nobody has got around to moving the Frying Pan to the class-specific templates, that's all. --Omolong (talk) 07:22, 15 January 2015 (PST)
Why revert?
You reverted my Smissmas 2014 edit. I agree that is probably not necessary but i think that it help translators that base translation on english page because they won't have to translate every link one by one. Anakin100 (talk) 08:23, 20 January 2015 (PST)
- Adding those changes into the page just increases the page size and can cause the page to load more slowly. Additionally, it's a bit more confusing to have the
{{if lang}}
template in a normal page, seeing as it is mostly just used for links in templates. Most of the links you changed can be automatically translated by{{item link}}
, as well (though that is equally unnecessary for the English page). I am pretty sure that translating links and everything is covered in the translation guide anyway. --Omolong (talk) 08:52, 20 January 2015 (PST)
Demoman Primary Template
The Demoman template for primary weapons {{Class weapons table demoman primary}}
incorrectly states that the grenade launcher does 180 on a direct hit crit, that is incorrect, as it does 300 on a direct hit. Quintdamage (talk) 13:06, 11 February 2015 (PST)
- No it doesn't, the template clearly says that it does 300 damage on a direct critical hit, and 190 after bouncing. The only weapon on there that does 180 damage on a direct critical hit is the Loose Cannon, which does less damage by default. I don't see why you posted on my talk page about it anyway. Additionally, you should use the Show Preview button, rather than doing multiple edits on one page like you did here. --Omolong (talk) 13:15, 11 February 2015 (PST)

Red Tractor texture
Hey, Omolong, would you help me get the texture uploaded to TF2 wiki (as a png) for the Red Tractor sign (Trust the Best) in RED's Yard in Foundry? I think I should know how to find such things, but don't yet (short of SDK?). Mikado282 (talk) 15:58, 7 March 2015 (PST)
- I had to use a console command to get a list of the textures in the frame, but I believe I've found it. It's in the tf2_textures_dir.vpk, and then in the materials\signs\ folders, and it's called sign059.vtf. It shouldn't be too hard to get it in PNG if you have GCFScape and a VTF plugin for Photoshop/Paint.Net/GIMP or something similar, but I can upload it for you tomorrow if you have trouble. --Omolong (talk) 20:46, 7 March 2015 (PST)
- I'm a technical writer rather than a developer now, and most of my development is deeper than .NET [anyway]; so yeah, while, I think other editors might have an expectation of me to have a development suite or some such
, and when I develop, its much lower than .NET. I think I should invest elsewhere. On that basis, I am not sure I will install .NET at home, but I won't rule it out yet. Given that you've already replaced all the screenshots I uploaded for list of companies, I can't think of wanting any more than this one file, anyway. I will probably install GIMP, but that won't browse the *vpk, will it? Mikado282 (talk) 21:25, 7 March 2015 (PST)- Whoops, I've been a bit busier than I expected so I didn't get a chance to respond yet. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that GIMP can't browse VPKs even with the plugin, though I'm not sure. I extracted the file and uploaded it as a PNG to my Dropbox here, though. - Klints Hocks and Discount Alchemist from Rottenburg are the only ones I had any designs on, vis-à-vis List of companies, and that's more than I have time for right now anyway, and its no big. But in generally, the unique signs on the Two Cities maps are interesting. Top of my to do list is to clean up what is already on the List of companies; but, as you might notice, time to do it is very limited; traveling, working, and coaching a lot right now.

- Whoops, I've been a bit busier than I expected so I didn't get a chance to respond yet. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that GIMP can't browse VPKs even with the plugin, though I'm not sure. I extracted the file and uploaded it as a PNG to my Dropbox here, though. Hope that helps. --Omolong (talk) 21:16, 9 March 2015 (PDT)
- I'm a technical writer rather than a developer now, and most of my development is deeper than .NET [anyway]; so yeah, while, I think other editors might have an expectation of me to have a development suite or some such
Dadliest Catch craftability
Hi. Afaik, Dadliest Catch is the only one Halloween restricted cosmetic that 'can' be used in non-Halloween blueprints, like “Rebuild Headgear”. Why it shouldn't be noted on Crafting page? Irvitzer (talk) 06:26, 12 March 2015 (PDT)
- I'm pretty sure that the Isolationist Pack can be used too. I do have a few Halloween restricted items in my backpack that can be used in that blueprint though, so I do know that Halloween restricted items can be used in crafting. I don't have enough items in the right qualities/with the right attributes to be able to test this with all Halloween restricted items, though. --Omolong (talk) 07:33, 12 March 2015 (PDT)
