+ | '''Force-A-Nature Scouts''' are similar to the normal Scouts, but instead always have the Force-A-Nature equipped, making them capable of knocking players away easily. In addition they come in groups. They are easy to identify, due to their Bolt Boy. Unusually, their Fed-Fightin' Fedora conflicts with the Bolt Boy, and thus doesn't appear in-game. | ||

− | + | This variant is similar to the previously mentioned Force-A-Nature Scout variant, except it has +50% more knockback power, +10% faster reload speed, and 250 unit longer vision on top of guaranteed Critical hits. However, these bots become weaker when all gates have been captured, losing the extra vision, as well as -30% of knockback power, but they retain the slight reload speed bonus as well as their guaranteed Critical hits. Gatebot Force-A-Nature Scouts can only be seen in the final wave of [[Metro Malice (mission)|Metro Malice]]. | |

+ | The '''Super Scout''' is the fastest robot in the game, moving at double the regular Scout robots' pace, far outstripping any other robots or players. They can be identified by their Bonk Boy and are equipped with the Holy Mackerel. They are not dangerous in combat or particularly durable but they can very quickly deliver the bomb and end a round against unprepared teams, hence it is highly recommended to focus fire on this robot rather than others, especially if it manages to get the bomb. Super Scouts do not run at the actual speed the +100% movement speed buff gives, but at the speed with the +30% movement speed buff due to a speed limit set in TF2. | ||

The Major League Scout moves at the same speed as its smaller counterparts, but not quite as fast as the Super Scout. Nonetheless, the Major League Scout can often be the cause of a round failure, considering its speed and ability to slow players. Constantly strafe from side to side and attack it from a distance, where it will find it harder to hit its baseballs. | ||

The regular Scout robots are the most common bots in Mann vs. Machine. Like the regular Scout, they are fast but weak. To counteract their fragility, they often come in large numbers. In early waves of some missions, Scout-bots wield only the default Bat, making them a very minor threat. However, they can easily overrun a player in numbers if they get too close. Later, these robots are seen to wield the Scattergun, making them more dangerous up close. Scout robots are intended more for running the bomb to the hatch rather than to pose a true threat to players, though it's still dangerous to get mobbed by Scout robots. In more advanced difficulties they sometimes appear with a permanent Crit boost, making them even more dangerous. Overall they don’t pose much of a threat given their weapons and frail health.

These Scouts are equipped with the Batter's Helmet and the Sandman, which the robots use to a great extent. The Minor League Scout will attempt to slow players as it moves towards the bomb. If it manages to slow a player near enemies and no other players are nearby, it may pose a major threat, allowing its allies to hurt the slowed players more easily, but otherwise it poses no major threat.

These variants are nearly identical to Minor League Scouts, the only difference being that Hyper League Scouts recharge their baseballs much faster.

These variants can be easily distinguished from Minor League Scouts by their Hanger-On Hoods and their notable jumping ability. They sometimes hit a baseball as they jump very high, and doing so, they can dodge enemy attacks and slow players. This can make it hard for players to hit them as they come in large numbers.

Bonk Scouts are equipped with Bonk! Atomic Punch and Bonk Helms, hence their name. Upon spawning, Bonk Scouts immediately drink their Bonk! and barrel into the playing area. While they are invulnerable for the first few seconds of their lives, they have no special characteristics once the effect wears off, and are likely to die before they can use the Bonk! again.
Force-A-Nature Scout Type
Icon | Name | Primary | Hat | Misc | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Force-A-Nature Scout | Force-A-Nature |
Fed-Fightin' Fedora |
Bolt Boy |
+50% knockback -35% damage dealt -60% slower reload rate Cannot see past 500 units |
Force-A-Nature Scouts are similar to the normal Scouts, but instead always have the Force-A-Nature equipped, making them capable of knocking players away easily. In addition they come in groups. They are easy to identify, due to their Bolt Boy. Unusually, their Fed-Fightin' Fedora conflicts with the Bolt Boy, and thus doesn't appear in-game.
Force-A-Nature Scout (Gatebot)

---|---|---|---|
Force-A-Nature Scout | Force-A-Nature |
Robot is a Gatebot 100% crit chance +100% knockback -35% damage dealt -50% slower reload rate Cannot see past 750 units |
This variant is similar to the previously mentioned Force-A-Nature Scout variant, except it has +50% more knockback power, +10% faster reload speed, and 250 unit longer vision on top of guaranteed Critical hits. However, these bots become weaker when all gates have been captured, losing the extra vision, as well as -30% of knockback power, but they retain the slight reload speed bonus as well as their guaranteed Critical hits. Gatebot Force-A-Nature Scouts can only be seen in the final wave of Metro Malice.
Shortstop Scout
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Shortstop Scout | Shortstop |
1.4x bigger in size Hitbox size remains the same 650 HP +30% smaller head size +25% movement speed |
This tough, bulky version of the Scout robot comes equipped with the Shortstop, a size increase, and move speed bonus. However they are extremely rare, only showing up a single time in wave 5 of Empire Escalation, where they are given 100% Crit chance.
Giant Variants
Super Scout
Icon | Name | Melee | Misc | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Super Scout | Holy Mackerel |
Bonk Boy |
1200 HP +100% movement speed +30% knockback resistance |
The Super Scout is the fastest robot in the game, moving at double the regular Scout robots' pace, far outstripping any other robots or players.
Major League Scout
Icon | Name | Melee | Hat | Misc | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Major League Scout | Sandman |
Batter's Helmet |
Essential Accessories |
Moves at the same speed as a regular Scout 1600 HP +30% knockback resistance +90% faster reload rate |
A bigger, badder version of the Minor League Scout, with the same loadout, though the Major League Scout can shoot its baseballs often, hitting a ball every two seconds or so.
Armored Sandman Scout
Icon | Name | Melee | Hat | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Armored Sandman Scout | Sandman |
Batter's Helmet |
3000 HP +30% knockback resistance +95% faster reload rate -25% movement speed |
This variant of the Giant Scout is essentially a giant version of the Hyper League Scout, with decreased speed. It will almost always use its Sandman ball if there is someone in range, and as such has a high potential to permanently slow down a player if given the chance. It should be treated with caution, as with the other Sandman-wielding Giant Scouts. They only appear in Waves 1 and 5 of Empire Escalation (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).
Giant Bonk Scout
Icon | Name | Secondary | Melee | Hat | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Scout | Bonk! Atomic Punch |
Bat |
Bonk Helm |
Moves at the same speed as a regular Scout 1600 HP +30% knockback resistance +45% faster reload rate |
The Giant Bonk Scout is similar to a regular Giant Scout, except that they also use their Bonk! Atomic Punch to run through the area, invincible for several seconds at a time. This may cause an extremely quick end to a round when they show up, unless the defenders focus fire on them to cause them to slow down once the Bonk effect has expired. They only appear in the end of the fifth wave of Empire Escalation (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).
Force-A-Nature Super Scout
Icon | Name | Primary | Hat | Misc | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Force-a-Nature Super Scout | Force-A-Nature |
Fed-Fightin' Fedora |
Bolt Boy |
1200 HP +10% movement speed +30% knockback resistance +100% bullets per shot 60% more accurate +500% knockback +50% fire rate bonus -65% damage dealt -70% slower reload rate Cannot see past 1200 units Holds fire until full reload |
Force-A-Nature Super Scouts are just enlarged versions of the Force-A-Nature Scouts. However, due to their larger size and health, they should be treated with great caution. They have much more knockback power than the normal Force-A-Nature Scouts, easily knocking players (including Heavies) back to pass by them. Just like its smaller variant, its Fed-Fightin' Fedora conflicts with its Bolt Boy and doesn't appear.
Force-A-Nature Super Scout (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Primary | Misc | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Force-a-Nature Super Scout | Force-A-Nature |
Bolt Boy |
Robot is a Gatebot 1200 HP +10% movement speed +30% knockback resistance +100% bullets per shot 60% more accurate +500% knockback +50% fire rate bonus -65% damage dealt -70% slower reload rate Cannot see past 900 units Holds fire until full reload |
The Gatebot variant of this bot has the same stats, but it cannot see past 900 units instead of 1200 units. It also does not wear the Fed-Fightin' Fedora. The Bolt Boy cannot be seen, but the bot does wear it.
Giant Jumping Sandman Scout
Icon | Name | Melee | Hat | Misc | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Giant Jumping Sandman | Sandman |
Hanger-On Hood |
Flight of the Monarch |
Moves at the same speed as a regular Scout Auto jumps every 5 second(s) 1200 HP +30% knockback resistance +100% damage dealt +90% faster reload rate +100% jump height +50% bigger head size |
The Giant Jumping Sandman Scout is even more dangerous than its smaller counterpart, being able to jump higher than normal with a faster ball recharge rate and deal significantly higher damage. They can easily jump to higher areas to dodge enemy fire, so they should be treated with huge caution. Occasionally they have a hard time deploying the bomb as they are forced to jump even while doing so. They appear only in Wave 3 of Metro Malice (Operation Two Cities, Mannhattan).
Bugs
- When under the effects of Bonk! Atomic Punch, the phasing trail only aligns with the Scout Robot's feet instead of the whole body.
- When under the effects of Bonk! Atomic Punch, Scout Robots will not be stunned by gate captures and continue moving so without issue when the effect wears off.
- Jumping Sandman Scout, Giant Bonk Scout, and Giant Jumping Sandman Scout do not use correct names in-game.

And a "Major League" Boss Scout-bot that is as fast as a Super Scout, with the ability to rain Sandman balls on any unfortunate player in its sight. Weirdly, it receives thrice the amount of received airblast push force, and also lacks the extra size increase that every other Boss Robot created by Valve possesses.
Through removing the speed limiter, Major League has been found to move ridiculously quick. He clocks in at a maximum speed of 3200 HU/s and can run from the robot spawn on Bigrock to the bomb hatch in under 15 seconds. He is so fast that his AI does not know how to cope with such speed, and thus will fly off of ramps and hit walls constantly because the AI cannot react quick enough.[1]
- There is an unused "Scout bat" icon in the game's files.
- Similar to other giants (except giant Medics), Giant Scouts have unused footstep sounds unique to them (named
giant_scout_step01-04.wav
).
Trivia
- The Scout Robots have a custom taunt in which they smack their bottom at the player when holding the Scattergun and smack their bottom with the Bat when equipped.
- This taunt is also used instead of a drinking animation for Bonk Scouts.
- A blueprint for a Scout Robot was visible in the Engineer Update Teaser.
- The Fed-Fightin' Fedora is not visible on Force-A-Nature Scouts due to the Bolt Boy overriding their slot, despite not taking up the hat slot.
