+ | Hi! | ||
+ | |||
+ | Thank you for the reply and sorry for not answering earlier! It is nice to hear that there are still some Finns left here. And thank you for volunteering for reviewing my articles; I know that my biggest problem is with links, especially in the infobox most of the time. This is mostly because, for me, the editing tutorial is not really too clear, I don't know why. Some of the links also tend to be incorrect or marked red because they do not exist yet, but I believe you already know that Therefore, I have aimed to concentrate more on actually creating the Finnish versions of those pages and making the bulk of the work, which is in this case translating them so that others can eventually refine them by correcting all the spelling errors and other mistakes. I aim to make them as grammatically correct as I can, but there always tend to be some spelling errors.

+ | : That is exactly what is needed, new pages (focus on the most used, like items and recent updates). Grammar is not big issue, unless it is very bad. + | Hello!

+ | I have a small question in which I hope your opinion. Hypothetically speaking, if, and I emphasise the word if, I would translate the rest of the cosmetic articles, what would be my chances to get the wiki cap? Now I know edit count does not count but still.

+ | :<small>(Yes, it's me again)</small> Well, it'd definitely help, but you might want to shift your priorities. As you can see here, the cosmetics section is missing about ~160 articles, but there are other, even more important sections (e.g. classes and maps). Additionally, you can check out the most wanted translations. In the end, we can't give you any numbers or chance predictions. Btw, I'm seeing you're currently translating cosmetics, thank you for that! I know this might get annoying, but I'd still recommend you using the WikiTranslator. There are still some strings to be inserted, but I still think it'll pay out for you ^^

+ | Hello! | ||
+ | |||
+ | Thanks for the good answer. I really should at least try to use the WikiTranslator but I'm curently unable to do so since I'm using a laptop that isn't mine, but I definitely should look into it. I kinda knew the answer about the propabilities of getting it, but I just had to ask him since he's been a member of this wiki since 2011 and I heard that the criteria for getting is was, at least what I heard, easier understandably, since the page was quite new and there was not really that much content available to be translated or created. And to answer why I'm so obsessed about translating the cosmetic articles is because, in my experience, people tend to read them and check them more in TF Community and I personally hated when I wanted to find out something about a specific item and realized that there isn't a Finnish version of it and some of those articles are really old, which makes me wonder why anyone else haven't created them already. But I don't know if there are some statistics that show which articles are most read in the wiki so I cannot be certain whether this phenomenon is actually true. And what comes to my translated articles... they are not even close to perfect, but at least I aim to make the basis core work for other that can later on refine them and fix my mistakes.

Hello, Jew!
Welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Official Wiki!
Here are a few links to get you started:
- If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
- If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style guide.
- Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
- To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes.
- You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
- When posting on an article's Talk page you should add four tilde symbols or ~~~~ onto the end.
- This will add a signature and timestamp to your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
- Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
- When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
- You can use the button in the editing toolbar to quickly add a signature.
- If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for a staff member.
- If you have trouble with anything on the wiki or you're not sure about a specific topic, feel free to join the IRC.
- You can also customize your user page if you like.
- When uploading images for use on your user page, please add the prefix User Jew to the file's name.
- Additionally, if you would like to add any self-made content to the wiki, please do so by adding the prefix User:Jew/ to the page title when you create the page.
Once again, welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Wiki!

Is it possible to earn the Wiki Cap without actually meeting all of the eligibility criteria?
I'm just curious, because I'd like to actually get one some day, but the thing is that i'm only good at translating articles. I'm not really interested to regularly visit IRC or discussion channels ect. I am able to translate whole articles quite regularly, but is that actually enough?
Jew (talk) 12:00, 4 January 2015 (PST)
- That is up to the Wiki Community really. If other translators or users see that your work is good in both quality and content, then you may be nominated. (We do check translations via STS mods by the way).
Although it is highly encouraged to atleast communicate with others of the community. It makes things a bit easier with edits or distribution of work. Ashes (talk) 13:17, 4 January 2015 (PST)
Glad to hear that there is at least a chance. So far I have been translating, during this year, one article per day into Finnish, and have checked the Finnish translation discussion, but the people there have not been too active reentely (might be because of the holidays). Thanks for the answer by the way; it cleared out any doubts. Jew (talk) 20:55, 4 January 2015 (PST)JewJew (talk) 20:55, 4 January 2015 (PST)
Li'l fix
Ohai, I just fixed one of your translations. Please translate all links and use the en-sound=yes
parameter in the quotation
template to show the sound is English. Thank you ~
{ TidB | t | c | wt } 12:39, 5 January 2015 (PST)
Much appreciated! I'll try to fix those for now on; I'm still quite new here so any help is welcome. I might have left a bit of a mess in my articles, but I have tried to at least create a basis for other, more experienced writers/editors like you. Thanks again.

Help:Language Translation into Finnish
I was just wondering if that could be translated into any other language, because it could help some new users, who do not understand that much English, to understand the content of the page a bit better. I would be at least ready to try that, but I'm not sure if it is actually allowed.
Jew (talk) 04:11, 8 January 2015 (PST)JewJew (talk) 04:11, 8 January 2015 (PST)
- This help page shouldn't be translated, as translators are expected to know enough English to understand the contents of the article. For example, see the deleted Russian version and its deletion reason. For a more detailed reasoning, see User talk:Aris. { TidB | t | c | wt } 04:53, 8 January 2015 (PST)
Thanks for the quick reply. It's a shame, but no can do. Thanks for clearing that up.
Jew (talk) 05:55, 8 January 2015 (PST)
Logged out after a while
I have experienced this quite a few times, when I have been translating long articles: several times, when I have been editing an article for like an hour or so (could be longer), I get logged out from the wiki, and have lost all of my work, because when I log back in, all my progress is gone. I have learnt to cope with it by copying all my work before actually saving my progree, but I have to mention it, because it can be extremely frustrating after working for a while. Am I the only one experiencing this?
Jew (talk) 11:08, 9 January 2015 (PST)JewJew (talk) 11:08, 9 January 2015 (PST)
- It's a bit strange, but you might want to check your browser's cookie settings. I'm not actually sure if this is the cause of the problem, but well... you should also try editing offline completely; that's recommended when you come to the really big articles (like community strategies). Personally, I just edit small articles (e.g. cosmetics) in the browser directly.
- { TidB | t | c | wt } 11:15, 9 January 2015 (PST)
Right. I'll try to do that. Thansk for the incredibly fast reply once again.

Found a typo/grammar mistake in one of the ingame cosmetics
When I was translating End of the Line Update article, I noticed that one of the cosmetic items, End of the Line Update Medal, is translated incorrectly into Finnish. In Finnish it should be 'End of the Line -yhteisömitalli', but in game the word 'mitalli' is missing one 'l' letter. So is it possible to inform Valve about that?
Jew (talk) 06:57, 10 January 2015 (PST)JewJew (talk) 06:57, 10 January 2015 (PST)
- The STS is responsible for the translation of Valve's games and Steam (and some third-party games). You can either inform a moderator of them (see the admins on the Steam group) or directly join the STS by submitting an application-like translation. btw, some things on End of the Line Update/fi I have fixed:
- Don't use
trans
when a page is already fully translated, it's purpose is to indicate pages which are in the progress of being translated. - Be sure to use
item name
anditem link
more. On this article, this might be not a big problem, as all item names are already translated, but on new updates, as the names are about to be translated soon, leading to unnecessary edits. - Some thing you might consider changing is always linking to the Finnish name, e.g. Pakkaspipo. If you do it like this, you have to create the real page Coldsnap Cap and the redirect on the page before. So please just use
item link
and in case the item is not the target, the usualFinnishCaption
- Please translate everything; some strings were missing, like the Notes in the tables.
- Use
en
to indicate an external link is linking to an English page. - Categories aren't translated, just append a
/fi
at the end.
- Don't use
- I'd also recommend you joining the IRC. I know you don't have this in mind, but posting on your own talk page isn't the best way to communicate to others. Otherwise, you can also add me on Steam ;)
- { TidB | t | c | wt } 07:28, 10 January 2015 (PST)
Once again thanks for the quick reply. And also thanks for the tips; I have gone through that help page quite a few times and I have tried to get all those things right. For now on I really have to pay a lot more attention to all those minor details. So thanks alot for the great tips and being ready to answer my reply. I would try to ask these things form the Finnish Group in the wiki, but they seldom are active.
Jew (talk) 07:37, 10 January 2015 (PST)JewJew (talk) 07:37, 10 January 2015 (PST)
- Well, the Finnish section has iirc just one other active member, Zabidenu who's also a mod. And as long as you don't need help specific to the Finnish language, everyone can help you.
- { TidB | t | c | wt } 07:40, 10 January 2015 (PST)
- Since I haven't posted enough on your talk page yet, I just want to show you a tool for partial translation that's useful for item (set) pages: here. Thanks to Zabidenu, it's already almost translated to Finnish, but there are still some strings left. { TidB | t | c | wt } 06:32, 12 January 2015 (PST)
- Alright, regarding my WikiTranslator again, I've inserted the most annoying parts of the strings so there are just few strings left to translate which are used for item set articles (and some string need an update, but that's not that important). I saw your item page translations and you might wanna use my tool as it helps you avoiding the mistakes you made. I don't have the time for writing a lengthy review right now, but just one thing: don't use DISPLAYTITLE on item pages (you have to use it on item set pages, though) { TidB | t | c | wt } 02:15, 14 January 2015 (PST)

Right. I shall check it ASAP. Thanks. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jew (talk) • (contribs)
- Now I've got time on my hands, here's a complete review with an example edit here (and please don't check the next revisions, I was kinda, err.. let's call it confused):
- Don't forget about the translatable things inside templates; this is a major issue in the
item infobox
. Translate the links in it as well as the level, description, loadout name and flag sections. Be sure to use the official translation of these, unofficial ones aren't allowed. If the string is not available through an official channel, place the English one for a time. - As there are no Finnish voice lines, add the
en-sound=yes
parameter in theQuotation
template. - Don't forget the links in brackets in the update history.
- Now a special feature: The localization of Wikipedia links. The standard form you'll encounter is this:
EnglishCaption
(you may also seeEnglishPageTitle
but it shouldn't be used anymore). If the Finnish version of the Wikipedia article exists, make this:FinnishCaption
. If the page doesn't exist, you have a choice since there hasn't been any conclusion yet: You can remove the link entirely (that's how I do it), you can link to the English page or you can link to the not-existing Finnish page (both aren't recommended as you're effectively stealing the reader's time). - Don't use the
loadout-name
parameter in the infobox if the name displayed in-game is the same as in theDictionary
. - Note that wikilinks are (sometimes) build like this:
[[Page#Anchor|Caption}}
. If you're now usingCaption
, it still links to the English page. DoCaption
instead. - Don't forget the translation of headlines.
- Don't forget about the translatable things inside templates; this is a major issue in the
- So I guess I've taken over the talk page :P
- { TidB | t | c | wt } 06:16, 14 January 2015 (PST)
Thank you so much for having time to actually create a good example of how to actually do it right; I have a tendency to learn better after seeing an example first before applying them in practice. And for some unknown reasons, some text (that are in English) remain even though I remove them (the translation of the description for example), but I do make some careless mistakes in my edits. I shall now try to use your new tips as much as I possibly can. So thanks again. And it indeed appears that you run my talk page.

How many contributions are you required to make to get the Wiki Cap?
Now I know that earning the Wiki Cap requires dedication, being helpful and communication with the community (there are many other things too), but if we consider just contributions than how many would be enough? I have only been here for a month or so and know that it will take some time to earn it, but I'm just a bit curious.
--Jew (talk) 06:12, 3 February 2015 (PST)
- The # of contributions (AKA Edit count and what not) is kind of irrelevant. The only way to determine whether or not you are eligible to even be nominated is based on how well your translations are, and how long you actually are on the wiki over an extended period of time. (Do note: translations are checked with STS mods so your will is evaluated). Ashes (talk) 06:47, 3 February 2015 (PST)
Right. Is there actually any way to see that, because that would be kinda helpful. Thanks anyway for the quick reply.
--Jew (talk) 06:55, 3 February 2015 (PST)
- See what exactly? The edit count or quality? If its quality, you'll have to contact an STS admin on your own for that one. Ashes (talk) 07:01, 3 February 2015 (PST)

About Finnish moderators and moderatios in general
Hello!
I read about this Dutch editor here in the wiki (the discussion can be found in the wikicap nomination page) and I became a little bit worried about the thing he pointed out. He said that in order to actually get the wiki cap people, or moderators, had to actually read the articles and asses their quality, but the problem was for him that there were not really too many active members who could actually read Dutch. And that got me a little bit worried because he had been making some good quality contributions for over a year. And I have not really seen too many users who are contributing to the Finnish part of the wiki for a while, although there are some, but they are not moderators. And I don't believe that there are too manu users from other countries that can properly read Finnish, but I can be wrong about this. Now I don't want to sound like I want recognition for my work, that is not the case even if I might sound like that. It just would be reassuring to hear that at least someone is reading and assessing them for feedback.

- Great that you are translating the Finnish version of the wiki. If time comes to review your translation quality, I am available for that job (contact the moderation team and point this comment to them). Currently there are some improvements to be done in your work, as some of your translated articles do not have proper linking [1]. -- Keisari 13:25, 22 July 2015 (PDT)
Hi!
Thank you for the reply and sorry for not answering earlier!
Jew (talk) 19:31, 26 July 2015 (PDT)
- That is exactly what is needed, new pages (focus on the most used, like items and recent updates). Grammar is not big issue, unless it is very bad. Linking (and staying in current language's pages) is however very important. Nice to see you creating new pages, keep it up! -- Keisari 02:14, 27 July 2015 (PDT)
Hi!
I will now on try to be more accurate and aim to ensure that the links are properly made (at least most of them). My first pages that I created were awful, no question there, but I have at least attempted to improve.

Hello!
I have a small question in which I hope your opinion. Hypothetically speaking, if, and I emphasise the word if, I would translate the rest of the cosmetic articles, what would be my chances to get the wiki cap? Now I know edit count does not count but still.
Jew (talk) 01:52, 28 July 2015 (PDT)
- (Yes, it's me again) Well, it'd definitely help, but you might want to shift your priorities.

Hello!
Thanks for the good answer.

Regarding quotations
Ohai there, I just saw your Tartantaloons/fi article and noticed a mistake in the translation of the Quotation
template: It's a fact that there are no Finnish voice lines, but please keep them in the template, otherwise, keeping the en-sound=yes
parameter doesn't make sense ;) (by the way, it's en-sound
, not en sound
. Also, don't forget to translate the equip_region
link. See the fix in action.
Anyway, it's nice to see you here again :) { TidB | t | c | wt } 03:16, 27 July 2015 (PDT)
Hello!
Thanks once again for correcting my mistakes ; I lost count how many times you have done that already, but I do appreciate it. I'll try to be mmore ccurate the next time.

Team Fortress Wiki technical difficulties
Hello
Is anyone aware whether there is going on some update or anything since I at least have been experiencing some technical difficulties for the last few days; pages don't open and I constantly have the message 503 service unavailable and site problems. This also happens when I try to edit pages. Am I the only one?
Jew (talk) 21:50, 7 August 2015 (PDT)
- Keep calm, everybody have this issue.. it's very "common" and happens to all. — The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him! ▪ Contribs} 02:09, 16 August 2015 (PDT)
Found a typo in the Finnish translation of the description of Robot Chicken Hat
I believe I found s small typo in the description of the Robot Chicken Hat. You can check it if you want in the Mann Co. Catalogue in-game but here is the whole description in Finnish:
Miksi kana OIKEASTI ylitti tien? Jäädäkseen auton alle, joutuakseen hullun tiedemiehen varastamaksi, ja muuttuakseen pelottavaksi kyborgiksi, jota voit pitää päässäsi. Joten seuraavan kerran, kun kuulet jonkun kertovat tätä vitsiä, pistä se omahyväinen vitsinkertoja järjestykseen, koska sinulla on FAKTAT.
The word 'kertovat' should be replaced with 'kertovan' in my opinion on the second sentence.
Jew (talk) 01:22, 16 August 2015 (PDT)
- Hmm hello sir. Well you can ask a revision to an fi moderator (Steam Translation Server). In my language a lot of words have typos for the "comic effect"(how it's called in english?) I dont know about fi.. Also, maybe have a fi STS moderator here. — The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him! ▪ Contribs} 02:05, 16 August 2015 (PDT)
Hello and thank you for the quick reply. I understod what you meant by the comic effect but in this case it does not create such and it is just wrong. So do I have to send an email to them or what since I have not visited that site previously.

Item link
"Item link

Can be used for remove "unnecessary manual work" (reference). Just a tip for yo, check the localization files all the time can be hard.. Well, keep the good work, cya. — The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him! ▪ Contribs} 06:11, 18 August 2015 (PDT)
Hello
Thanks for the good tip. It could make my job easier, but then again I do everything manually so it would not make a much of a difference at least for me really. However if it is required I can start using it for now on.

Hey can you check the captions under the gallery images on this page for me? I just did a google translate for now, hopefully I didn't mess anything up. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bojjob (talk) • (contribs)
