:Hi there,

Hi, you mentioned my uploads being lower quality, but you linked to the old image that I am replacing.
:The piece of Trivia is XofY trivia, which is not valid Trivia as you are comparing the % of players that have achieved said achievement to the other ones. This Trivia is also quick to be outdated, as other achievements can take that title away at any time. My HLMV settings are set according to the guides in the help section, and I do have 8x antialiasing on via nvidia settings. I did, however, downscale some of these a little, and may need to try and retake some if this is still not considered an improvement over the inaccurate, low-quality prior images.

::Downscaling manually via an image manipulation program will cause either bluriness or choppy-looking edges. Why restore them? A few years ago, pretty much all names of items were changed, so all words are no longer capitalized like in the English language. I already created redirects with the correct names. Why leave the old ones? Now if someone would want to search them, there will be two identical results, with one using the old incorrect version. :Redirects are to redirect people to the correct article even if they had the wrong name, see: Solider, Mann in Slacks, or Axetinguisher. Old names are also kept, including capitalisation changes, see: Claidheamohmor, Train Of Thought, Creature From The Heap, Mister Sentry. A redirect having the old name is exactly what they're for, to help users that may not know or remember the exact name. Redirects, in general, are also not harmful enough to be deleted.
  s GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 15:47, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

::Even if literally nothing links to them? They are used only in the search window. It's not a completely new name, like "Mister Sentry" to "Aim Assistant." And most of the examples you linked are misspellings or grammar mistakes that make more sense in English only. Polish translations are still the same; only now there are two results with the same name and directing to the same article. If there will be any major changes to translated items (which are very rare), then having both old and new names makes sense. HI,

I didn't know what an edit war was until a couple of hours ago; my main concern for the page was readability. I thank you for making the page more aligned with the wiki. I added some minor spacing that I thought you missed, if that's ok.

You probably will need to fix the Saxton Hale health chart you made; for entry 25, I typoed 27000 as 29000. 27000 is the correct value and I have double-checked the rest of the values I entered to make sure there aren't any other errors. Probably a good thing you made that graph too, the weird spike that didn't match my chart made me check.

Page prioritization
Greetings, again. I'm almost done with the preliminary work on game terms, titles, etc., and theoretically I can start doing at least something next week.

I remember in the FAQ that I recommend that translators focus their attention on the "most important pages" to start with - the main menu, the most visited pages, etc. And leave rarely visited pages for the very end.

Is there a list, a table, a ranking of the most important/most visited pages so that I can create a guideline? Thanks.

--FIRUIN (talk) 08:51, 27 July 2023 (UTC) FIRUIN

:I don't think there is one list of most important pages. The Dutch translation page has one that I generally would recommend to people, that being weapons first (Stock weapons -> achievement reward weapons -> other weapons), cosmetic items second (I would start with the newest cosmetics first), major updates, maps, achievement pages, small updates, then from there it's whatever.

:Also do note that you should use the tf_ukrainian.txt to find all the translations possible rather than making your own. We've had some discussion in the Staff channel and we're not entirely sure yet where these translations should go.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) 10:10, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

::Thank you, yes, I remember about the correspondence of the names, thanks for reminding me about the existence of this file, I almost forgot. Ha ha.

::There's a little problem with the last items because they're not translated yet, so I'll leave them for later.

::And as for posting them, I'll probably post them from my page like User:FIRUIN/Sсout/uk. This way I can show what I can do and, if necessary, they can be simply copied and pasted as the official translation of the page. At least I think so, I haven't quite figured out the technical part of this wiki yet.

::In any case, it's better to spend more time preparing to meet the relevant standards.

I've been trying all day to figure out how to translate it, but I still can't figure it out. Can you help with this question? Maybe I should just add the Russian version of it to the facts list?
Hello, GrampaSwood!

Welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Official Wiki!

Here are a few links to get you started:

  • If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
  • If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style guide.
  • Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
    • To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes.
    • You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
  • When posting on an article's Talk page you should add four tilde symbols or ~~~~ onto the end.
    • This will add a signature and timestamp to your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
    • Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
    • When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
    • You can use the Signature Icon.png button in the editing toolbar to quickly add a signature.
  • If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for a staff member.
  • If you have trouble with anything on the wiki or you're not sure about a specific topic, feel free to join the IRC.
  • You can also customize your user page if you like.
    • When uploading images for use on your user page, please add the prefix User GrampaSwood to the file's name.
    • Additionally, if you would like to add any self-made content to the wiki, please do so by adding the prefix User:GrampaSwood/ to the page title when you create the page.

Once again, welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Wiki!

Re: Festivizer images

Hi, you mentioned my uploads being lower quality, but you linked to the old image that I am replacing.

My images have not been succesfully cached yet. I have included an example of the image you are referring to that I uploaded a new version of.

https://imgur.com/a/XhGgnmi

My HLMV settings are set according to the guides in the help section, and I do have 8x antialiasing on via nvidia settings. I did, however, downscale some of these a little, and may need to try and retake some if this is still not considered an improvement over the inaccurate, low-quality prior images.

I compared the older upload, your newer upload, and the other Rocket Launcher upload. They may not have been cached on your end yet, but I had the right images on mine. Try CTRL + F5 on the image if it doesn't show up properly.
The downscaling likely ruined the image, so I advise to not do that for any image.

Downscaling manually via an image manipulation program will cause either bluriness or choppy-looking edges. If you would like to downscale, it's ideal to do that on HLMV itself, by zooming out a little. I see it now, you're right, I needed to refresh the cache. I'll see about potentially fixing it later.

Restored redirects

Why restore them? A few years ago, pretty much all names of items were changed, so all words are no longer capitalized like in the English language. I already created redirects with the correct names. Why leave the old ones? Now if someone would want to search them, there will be two identical results, with one using the old incorrect version. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 15:40, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Redirects are to redirect people to the correct article even if they had the wrong name, see: Solider, Mann in Slacks, or Axetinguisher.

Even if literally nothing links to them? They are used only in the search window. It's not a completely new name, like "Mister Sentry" to "Aim Assistant." And most of the examples you linked are misspellings or grammar mistakes that make more sense in English only. Polish translations are still the same; only now there are two results with the same name and directing to the same article. If there will be any major changes to translated items (which are very rare), then having both old and new names makes sense. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 18:44, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Yeah looks fine. If you type "Kucyk B" then the other one doesn't show up. Not everyone uses the search bar either (I navigate by changing the URL or using the shorthand wiki.tf). Similarly to all other capitalisation-related, these are just fine and there's generally no reason to have them deleted.

Is it possible to implement a search bar used on Wikipedia so when a user switches to the Polish interface and types "Kucyk bohatera", "Kucyk Bohatera", "KUCYK BOHATERA" etc., it will always show the correct article without creating every possible redirect combination? Or was it already suggested? User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 07:48, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
I'm not sure it's possible to do that with our version of Mediawiki, but maybe in the future if we ever upgrade versions. But for now, it makes the most sense having the old name still as a redirect (even if we had that search bar system in place).
