The image was originaly created as an edit of a scene from TEChulus's video Crystal Weed which came out on September of 2013, it is unknown who created the edit, but one of the first notable uses of the image was done by the tf2 youtuber Rapid シ as the thubnail of his video WEED IS NOW LEGAL IN TF2 which came out on February of 2015.

Up to this point the Weed Soldier image (also dubbed :weed:) was just a random tf2 joke image, nothing more, nothing less, but the meme became very big in the community of the youtuber Chimparoncito around 2022, the image started to see use, in game on Conscientious Objector and outside of it like in profile pictures on several sites (mostly on steam), and even recreated in other games like MineCraft, this was all done because of challenge streams Chimparoncito did in which he closes the stream if he sees the image at all while playing tf2, the more times he did the challenge the harder it became, and the more popular the image became in the tf2 community at large.

:Personally, I think although it does see a lot of usage, it isn't really notable. It seems like only a few notable YouTubers have the image as a popular fad in their community and it has only appeared a few times in the TF2 community as a whole. The most usage the fad sees seems to be related to one person's usage of the image in a thumbnail, which the thumbnail itself is the focus and not the Soldier image itself.<br> | <span style="color:green;font-family:TF2 Build;">s</span> | <font color="DB9C1F">GrampaSwood</font> (<font color="DB9C1F">talk</font>) 01:01, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

The Demoman Moo meme is a meme where people play as Demo in 2fort, then they go to the cow right next to the entrance to the intel, and they say Move up while laughing right before Demo says "that." It should sound like he's saying MOO!
:I never even heard of those (even though I don't spend my day watching TF2 gmod videos on youtube), so I'm inclined to say their popularity and notability isn't skyrocket high to include them in the "memes" article. The game has a rich history in it’s short life, with lots of updates, and crossovers into other memes.

The problem is that not all of these things are memetic items. The vast majority of it is fanart. The game is insanely popular, I play it myself, but it’s the kind of thing that will naturally be parodied. It’s like the Britney Spears of video games. And with video games today becoming more popular than movies, TF2 is a well-represented force in the media regardless of what any particular instance looks like. Any big video game will inspire parody and fanart."

SeeS or SooS?
I've been thinking, and I hate to be the one to say this, but as much as we love the items on the Memes page, a lot of these things are not Memes. They are just huge fads within the Team Fortress community. A big bunch of these have managed to cultivate Meme status, but we really can't list every Team Fortress 2 inside joke as a born Meme. Most people outside of the TF2 community have never heard of these, even the Meme filled /b/tards. I think on a wiki (an official one at that) we should be more correct in our terminology.
+
SeeS or SooS? is a community fad made by notna.

I propose that we either use knowyourmeme.com (they have a status: confirmed/denied on the right) as a resource to check before adding content to this page, move some of the items to a differently named page or section, or list their current Meme status beside the proposed Meme.

Before anyone discredits knowyourmeme.com they have a stricter system than here when it comes to accepting and they do a hell of a lot of research before announcing something as a meme.
+
In the video, Soldier with a tiny head says "SeeS" and then Heavy with a tiny head like the Soldier says "SooS." And as this scene crosses over faster and faster, Spy says "SooS." Afterwards, Soldier makes a sad face and a seconds later, Medic says "SeeS."

There are a lot of variations of the fad on YouTube.

So, to start said ball rolling:

The problem with most of these, is they are simply either inside jokes or things that have a fan base and have been cultivated within the TF2 community because of this. It's like calling a TV show a Meme, just because it has a fan base that quote it in parodied situations, they are not the same thing. Even noting them as a cult status or something similar would be better.

An example of anthropomorphism of the Engineer's buildings. Original post here<br>
 +
Originally starting out as a fad in 2023, "Mimi-Sentry" refers to an anthromorphic personification of the Mini-Sentry of the Engineer as a robotic female. The most common depiction is to portray "Mimi" as the Engineer's daughter as a humorous extrapolation of an Engineer tip.  "Mimi-Sentry" reached the point of there being Steam Workshop mods that changed the Engineer's buildings into the robots in question.  Various animations often portray "Mimi" as a michevious "daughter" of the Engineer, or remaking Engineer memes replacing him with the "Mimi Sentry".  The anthropomorphism quickly spread to not only the other Engineer buildings but even weapons of the other TF2 classes and even into other games. In general the Dispencer is referred to as "Miss Spencer" and the Teleporters are portrayed as "twins", which ultimate leads to portrayls as the Engineer and his buildings as a literal family.

To those sad at the idea to see some of these go or moved somewhere else, remember, a lot of these have yet to grow, and many will eventually reach said status. This page needs a better layout and content style anyway. -- [[User:Benjamuffin|<span style="color:#476291;font-size:13px;font-family:
+
The TF2 community often uses "Mimi-Sentry" as a meta-joke of how desperate/lacking in updates the game was to the point of creating "Mimi-Sentry" as a fad.  Many fans welcomed the meme while others were ciritical of it, often complaining about how the robots were often depicted in less than savory circumstances.  Despite this, the general consensus of the "Mimi Sentry" is to treat "her" as a wholesome loyal daughter to the Engineer.<small>— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Akumaking1 (talk) • (contribs) 03:58 CEST 27/09/2024</small>

:The problem with using Know Your Meme is that there are some memes (Saxton or nope.avi for example) that are heavily used within the TF2 community but rarely used outside of it (as opposed to, say, "Gentlemen" or "Spycrab") and so they might get deadpooled even though they're used a lot. But I agree, this needs a major MAJOR rewrite, most of the "Youtube Memes" are just popular videos that I personally never heard of (and by "popular" I mean only a few few portion of the YT/GMod/TF2 community has seen them) and there are some old memes that should be referenced too. == Sandvich ==

The Sandvich is an unlockable item for the Heavy, and is famous for the various, often humorous quotes he will say when using the item.  In various animations and comics, it's popular to depict the Heavy as utterly obsessed with the Sandvich to the point of ignorning everything else, going into a depressive state if he can't eat it, etc. <small>— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Akumaking1 (talk) • (contribs) 12:38 CEST, 30 September 2024</small>

:: Indeed, but that is partially my point, those not acceptable (or yet acceptable) to sites like that, are not really Memes at all. They are just fads and cult fan comedy that has gained popularity within Team Fortress 2's community. They are nothing but inside jokes and references, so I think we really need to get rid of the whole "Team Fortress 2 and its community are responsible for the birth of a variety of memes." when the game really can't take that much credit. I mean the meme definition is vague at best even if it is taken from wikipedia. The definition of a meme could be applied to many non-meme things. As a whole, we either need to redefine these items as internal fads (with a better title of course) or strip out the non-meme items. Either that or we put them under honorable mentions in a section on the page. Knowyourmeme.com is quite happy to acknowledge the TF2 content as a Meme as long as it gains that status. Many of these are simply... Well, not at that point... I mean I like to consider my self in the know when it comes to the internetz, I have developed custom content for TF2, I lurk youtube etc, but even I have not heard of Seeman for example. They are just VERY popular youtube fan videos that people like. That doesn't make them memes. Otherwise every partner video on youtube would be a meme. As for the whole audio mash up thing, that isn't even a meme at all. While it is widespread in TF2 videos for custom dialogue, people have been doing audio mashup content to gain custom speech since before the damn TV was invented, so that one needs to go either way. -- [[User:Benjamuffin|<span style="color:#476291;font-size:13px;font-family:

::: Simple solution, we move the page to something like "Fanbase Fads"/"Fan Fads" or something better sounding, then we can add all the popular items as they are. Then at the end of each paragraph for each individual fad, if the fad has reached meme status, we simply add "The "Gentleman" fad has reached Meme status" at the end in bold or something, with the name linking to the knowyourmeme.com page (replacing the fad name with whatever). -- [[User:Benjamuffin|<span style="color:#476291;font-size:13px;font-family:

Kitty0706 (real name Colin Wyckoff) was a popular GMod animator on YouTube, famous for creating animations like "Heavy's Retarded Holiday" or "Team Fabulous 2" which depict the TF2 characters (and often other characters from other games ) in often comical, surreal situations. Kitty0706 is often considered the golden standard of GMod animations of TF2.

:::::::Trend: "a line of general direction of movement, a prevailing tendency of inclination, a style or preference, a line of development, or the general movement over time of a statistically detectable change. In a few words, "trend" is a synonym to "tendency"."

:::::::: True, but that all depends on your perception of time given the individual scenarios. Leg Warmers were considered a Fad during the 80s, but they were worn for a whole ten years. I removed it because I don't think we should be listing every insignificant little detail about their story arc and episode listings etc. I did the same for the Painis Cupcake, I removed a part that links to his other videos.

I think each section should just explain who they are and why they are a Fad/Meme, with links to say their first appearance being relevent. Each paragraph was/is way too big on some of them anyhow. So in short, Snyphurr isn't the Vagineer, so unless he is suddenly a Fad/Meme too, I don't think he should be mentioned. -- [[User:Benjamuffin|<span style="color:#476291;font-size:13px;font-family:

: I can assure you, though not a Meme, it is most definitely a Fad. The Odd Scout has a lot of fan art (some of it questionable) and is also referenced occaisonaly during gameplay (I have heard such). The whole point of removing the Meme page and having a Community Fads page, was so that things such as this could be noted. A Fad is low enough, there really isn't a need to lower it to something else. As for Law Abiding Engineer; though popular, it's questionable as to whether this is a Fad. It's pretty much been forgotten about in terms of keeping it alive through joke/reference. Give it time though, it may become a Fad at some point, and as I said, it IS debatable. -- [[User:Benjamuffin|<span style="color:#0e5c76;font-size:13px;font-family:

Weed Soldier

The Weed Soldier refers to this image:

The image was originaly created as an edit of a scene from TEChulus's video Crystal Weed which came out on September of 2013, it is unknown who created the edit, but one of the first notable uses of the image was done by the tf2 youtuber Rapid シ as the thubnail of his video WEED IS NOW LEGAL IN TF2 which came out on February of 2015.

Resurgence

At this point the image started to have variations of it created on the other classes, and was commonly used together with by this remix of Rocket Jump Waltz(created on April of 2020 by skylinee). Its most recent notable use happened on July of 2023 when the youtuber Richter Overtime used an edited version of the image with the word "Its Over" for the thumbnail of his video about the tf2 leak "Explaining TF2's Biggest Leak Ever"

Popular Uses Of The Image

1-common edit video of the classes.
2-loadout created in tf2.
3-the image recreated insdie of MineCraft.
4-a fad created about Richter Overtime's use of the :Weed: in the thumbnail of his video.
5-:weed: on r/place 2023.

Personally, I think although it does see a lot of usage, it isn't really notable. It seems like only a few notable YouTubers have the image as a popular fad in their community and it has only appeared a few times in the TF2 community as a whole. The most usage the fad sees seems to be related to one person's usage of the image in a thumbnail, which the thumbnail itself is the focus and not the Soldier image itself.

What about adding the fad of the buff mercs posing to Tick Tock by Joji? CriticalFeesh (talk) 12:09, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

This meme mostly exists in the format of the same few GIFs/images with the same music, I don't think this fits the definition of "fad" very well. It doesn't see much widespread usage outside of the same format (the GIFs with the music under it), unlike other fads here which come in many different forms.

I think it counts, this seems like a much more popular fad. It has many variations, videos, and the song itself has become a very popular part of the community. It's also become so popular that just hearing the song in a micspam will lead most players to react either positively or negatively. People have even recreated it by syncing it to the gunshots in-game. Finnodile (talk) 23:33, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Remember to indent your comments appropriately with colons (:).
This sounds more like the song has become a fad, which I'm not sure is really something we can cover here as it's just a popular song in the TF2 community.

I think it would need to prove more long-term popularity. It seems like the popularity is also largely contained to r/tf2. There may also be issues with the fact that the class itself is AI-generated.

SeeS or SooS?

SeeS or SooS? is a community fad made by notna.

Video

In the video, Soldier with a tiny head says "SeeS" and then Heavy with a tiny head like the Soldier says "SooS." And as this scene crosses over faster and faster, Spy says "SooS." Afterwards, Soldier makes a sad face and a seconds later, Medic says "SeeS."

There are a lot of variations of the fad on YouTube.

Doesn't seem noteworthy imo. There are plenty of voice line mixing fads like this, but they're not noteworthy.

Mimi-Sentry/Robots in General

An example of anthropomorphism of the Engineer's buildings. Original post here
Originally starting out as a fad in 2023, "Mimi-Sentry" refers to an anthromorphic personification of the Mini-Sentry of the Engineer as a robotic female.

Despite this, the general consensus of the "Mimi Sentry" is to treat "her" as a wholesome loyal daughter to the Engineer. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Akumaking1 (talk) • (contribs) 03:58 CEST 27/09/2024

I'm not really sure how popular this meme is, or if this meme is actually really widespread. I'm personally inclined to believe this to be less of a meme and more of a popular fanart character, which I'm not sure fits on this article.

It feels like it was a brief trend a year ago and hasn't had much staying power. Also I'm with swood that it's essentially just fan art. Mediarch User Mediarch PFP.pngTalkMy Edits 14:05, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Sandvich

The Sandvich is an unlockable item for the Heavy, and is famous for the various, often humorous quotes he will say when using the item. In various animations and comics, it's popular to depict the Heavy as utterly obsessed with the Sandvich to the point of ignorning everything else, going into a depressive state if he can't eat it, etc. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Akumaking1 (talk) • (contribs) 12:38 CEST, 30 September 2024

This is not really a community fad, this is a joke started by Valve itself with the numerous voice lines regarding Sandvich, and it's simply continued and turned into an extreme version by the community.

Kitty0706

Kitty0706 (real name Colin Wyckoff) was a popular GMod animator on YouTube, famous for creating animations like "Heavy's Retarded Holiday" or "Team Fabulous 2" which depict the TF2 characters (and often other characters from other games ) in often comical, surreal situations. Kitty0706 is often considered the golden standard of GMod animations of TF2.

In January 2015, Colin Wyckoff died due to leukimia, and his loss was mourned by the greater community, with other content creators creating videos to honor him. On January 10th, 2020, a Team Fabulous 2 redraw collaboration dubbed "Team Fabulous 2: Renamiated" was announced on Twitter to honor Kitty0706 and raise money for leukemia research. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Akumaking1 (talk) • (contribs) 12:38 CEST, 30 September 2024

Kitty0706 is not a community fad. A page covering Kitty would have to be under the Notable Persons Project, however, policy states that community personalities should not be covered so unfortunately we can't cover him here or on his own page.
