Proposed new user group rights. Each group has the listed rights and all the rights in groups above it.

New groups

All

• Read pages (read)
• Create new user accounts (createaccount)

Users

• Purge the site cache for a page without confirmation (purge)
• Edit pages (edit)
  • Mark edits as minor (minoredit)
  • Create discussion pages (createtalk)
  • Create non-talk pages (createpage)
• Upload files (upload)
  • Overwrite existing files (reupload)

Autoconfirmed

Note: We proposed 5 days and 10 edits to become "autoconfirmed"

• Useless: Edit semi-protected pages (autoconfirmed)
• Perform captcha triggering actions without having to go through the captcha (skipcaptcha)
  • Modify pages using the write API (writeapi)

Moderator

• Move pages (move)
  • Move pages with their subpages (move-subpages)
  • Move files (movefile)
  • Option to supress redirects when moving pages and files (suppressredirect)
• Change protection levels and edit cascade-protected pages (protect)

  • Undelete a page (undelete)

Robots

Bots can only be run by editors with moderators rights or higher. Bots have all moderator rights plus these exclusive permissions (admins do not inherit these rights):

Administrator

• Block a user from sending email (blockemail)

• Import pages from other wikis (import)

Removed rights

These rights were removed because they aren't set up to be used by us:

• Useless: Override files on the shared media repository locally (reupload-shared)
  • Shared repository not set up or inaccessible
• Unknown function (newusers)
  • Unknown function
• Useless: Allows the upload of files already residing on the server into MediaWiki (uploadlocal):
  • We don't have FTP access (for good reason)
• Useless: Bypass automatic blocks of proxies (proxyunbannable)
  • Open proxy blocker disabled (for good reason)
• Useless: Delete pages with large histories (bigdelete)
  • Bigdelete criteria not set up
• Useless: Submit a trackback (trackback)
  • Trackbacks not set up
• Useless: Upload files from a URL (upload_by_url)
  • Not enabled in config

Due to the unknown nature of these and their non-necessity in the operation of the wiki, it might make sense to add these to a "Valve" group which has these rights plus every other right.
