The Splendid Screen is a secondary weapon for the Demoman. It is an iron shield with four knobs in the cardinal directions, and a large boss in the middle. With its three additional styles, the Splendid Screen can bear a spike, an arrow, or both embedded in its face.

Compared to the Chargin' Targe, this weapon provides 60% less fire resistance, and 62.5% less explosive resistance. As such it is only capable of providing additional 20% and 15% resistances to the Demoman respectively. However, the Splendid Screen's charge ability is more potent; there is no minimum distance required to deliver damage with a shield bash, and a successful charge bash delivers 70% more damage.

Alternate fire initiates a charge attack, which deals damage on its own, or may be used in conjunction with another weapon.

* Charge Damage: 85 (if shield connects with enemy) + 17 per head (up to 5 heads).

** The shield damage is affected by weapon damage spread, it is not a constant number.

* Charge Speed: 750 Hammer units/sec (Approximately 2.5 times faster than 'Base' Speed).

** Charge Speed: 637.5 Hammer units/sec with Scotsman's Skullcutter equipped (Approximately 2.1 times faster than 'Base' Speed).

Function times
+
Like the Chargin' Targe, the Splendid Screen allows the Demoman to perform a Charging maneuver for 1.75 seconds (or 2.25 seconds if equipped with the Claidheamh Mòr), with benefits including a temporary boost of speed (fixed in a mostly straight line), shield bash and melee damage boosts which scale by distance, and the immediate removal of afterburn, bleeding, Mad Milk and Jarate. However, the Splendid Screen's charge ability is more potent than the Chargin' Targe's; a successful charge bash delivers 70% more damage, and its charge meter refills 50% faster, requiring only 8 seconds before the user can charge again. Heads gathered by the Eyelander, Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker or Nessie's Nine Iron increase the damage of the bash, at a maximum of 5 heads; however, the Splendid Screen gains 8.5 damage for every head gained (dealing 128 damage with 5 heads), instead of 5 damage per head like the Chargin' Targe (dealing 75 damage with 5 heads).
* Charge Interval: 12 seconds

**Charge Interval: 6 seconds with the Persian Persuader equipped

Times are approximate and determined by community testing.
+
As a downside, the Splendid Screen only offers both +20% fire and explosive resistance, compared to the Targe's +50% fire resistance and +30% explosive resistance.

This item has four styles, named "Classic", "Spike", "Arrow", and "Spike and Arrow", which allow the Splendid Screen to bear a spike, an arrow, neither, or both, embedded in its face.

* Due to how the shield bash is programmed, it is possible to deal full critical damage with a melee without charging the required distance. Attacking right after a shield bash will ensure a critical hit.
+
* This weapon does not glow in the world view when Crit boosted.
* If a player uses the melee weapon, and then in mid swing uses the charge, the player won't charge, but there will still be the sound effect and the Charge Meter will be depleted.
+
* While equipped, if the player spectates another player in first-person mode while dead, upon respawning the shield appears where the spectated player was while you respawned. The shield is non-interactive and can be seen through walls, textures, and players.
* Getting a kill with the Splendid Screen shield bash while equipped with the Saxxy will cause the enemy ragdoll to turn into gold.
+
* When using any style other than Classic, the Splendid Screen does not appear when inspecting it from the backpack menu.
* When crit boosted, the Splendid Screen will only glow in the client view, not in the world view.

* It is possible to use keybinds to turn at normal speed with both the Chargin' Targe and the Splendid Screen.

Time to get bluttered!
The Demoman on stronger shield bashes

The Splendid Screen is a community-created secondary weapon for the Demoman. It is a battered iron shield spattered with blood, with four bosses in the cardinal directions and a larger boss in the middle.

 • When using any style other than Classic, the Splendid Screen does not appear when inspecting it from the backpack menu.
