Item Retirement is a concept, announced in an official blog post on January 10, 2013. The blog post, authored by Saxton Hale, stated that a certain few specific hats would be permanently retired. Thus, these hats are no longer obtained from the Mann Co. Store, found as unusual hats, through the item drop system or as crafts as of January 24, 2013.
Retired items remain available through item crates that list them as obtainable.
