Point of potential confusion: If you ask Steam to create a shortcut for Team Fortress 2, it will create a web link, and this will not parse the -vr option if you add it. Instead, users should probably be manually instructed to create a shortcut to:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -vr
Also may want to mention that most optometrists will have no problem giving a user their IPD if they have gone to them for an eye exam in the past, as this should be stored in their records.
