.gif Images

I'm not talking about quality but functionality, Looking at static images is pretty boring and Youtube videos take such a long time to load, also this was a test, I have a pretty nice looking one gif but it have almost 2 MB that is too big for my objective, So can you tell me how to use external images because I can use my dropbox to upload it. -Danisson 17:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

I don't think external images can be linked to, but I may be wrong. Even so I don't think we want people to link to external images. As for gif's - I find animations distracting and thus irritating, I don't think we want those either. -RJ 17:49, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
A gif image would be nice, but as you can see, anything below 2 MB looks terrible. External images however should never be put directly into pages, and forcing a page to contain a >2 MB image (long loading time) is also not recommendable. The best way to go about it is to put a link to the external file in the page, but then again if there's going to be a link, it might as well be a link to a YouTube video. D: — Wind 17:58, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to make the best visible good looking animation, I think a bigger version with less frames could help, The first image I made was 1,47 MB that is too huge to be on page that people want fast information. Also I think the image should link to a bigger version of the image (just a frame) or opening a "official" looking video because those videos with annotations and intros are bad, We should at least making better YouTube videos. I hated that Hi-Five Taunts video, The author was using the mouse and etc, and it repeats too much. So yeah... If I make a good gif I will upload it -Danisson 18:04, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Here is the Big[1] and the Small[2] version of it, I was thinking why we don't link it to the anti-aliased HD version of it? -Danisson 18:21, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

JavaScript

I DID ask in IRC, but you didn't answer :(

Do you know a simple way to test the code without littering the recent changes? (I know about show preview, but the function will change specifically the recent changes, so I can't test it there). --CruelCow 01:05, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I was probably in-game, highlight me next time >.< As for "previewing", no, you can't do that. I usually make a userscript (google "greasemonkey") and when it works, I convert it to a Wiki thingy (usually just a matter of replacing the onload function call by addOnloadHook) — Wind 01:07, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Templates

Hey, how do you do your templates? Like the items one and the TF2 playing time/score, i'd like to make one for me!:)

(Please use show preview, remember that one edit on a user talk page = 1 email, so 4 edits = 4 emails). Anyway, check out Special:PrefixIndex/User:WindPower for links to my profile templates. Just view their source and you can then use them. — Wind 16:11, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

ok, thanks! :D Sorry about the e-mails! — Ykane 17:45, 19 October 2010

RollbackPenalty

Are you penalising those that use it, or those that have their edits rolledback? If it's use, well that just silly. I've removed it for now.  – Smashman (talk) 07:11, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I requested it. Rollback is destructive. People don't know why their edits got reverted because it offers no chance to change the edit summary. The filter just means that rollbacks count for 0.5 instead of 1. -- Pilk (talk) 07:18, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Then why, exactly, does undoing something subtract more? -Shine[] 07:25, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll clarify what the numbers mean. One sec. -- Pilk (talk) 07:28, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure having your edit undone subtracts more, not undoing. I don't think we should punish rollback. For a start it's an admin only ability. Also, I've been using rollback before, while I hadn't really thought of its destruction. So you're punishing me, and likely solely me quite alot. Fine I'll attempt to stop using it. But if you're going to remove points for rollback, you should remove points for undos too.  – Smashman (talk) 07:32, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
You are misinterpreting it. The numbers only reduce the contribution of rollback edits by 0.5. Undoing edits only subtracts that value from the person who made the edit which was undone *not* the person doing the undoing. -- Pilk (talk) 07:36, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I just feel you're punishing me for a crime I wasn't aware of. Also, those that aren't admins can't do it, so if I didn't have the ability then I'd obviously only use undo. I've been trying to not use it since you voiced against it. But it is quite unfair to be punished retractively.  – Smashman (talk) 07:40, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
You aren't being punished. It's just modifying the value. Redirects are only worth 0.1 for example. -- Pilk (talk) 07:41, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Sure. But then I feel that undos should be modified the same. As they both remove edits.  – Smashman (talk) 07:51, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Removing edits isn't bad. Removing edits without explaining why is. -- Pilk (talk) 07:55, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Again, sure. But I feel that punishing retroactively is unfair. As I'd never really considered the ramifications and only admins can do it. If you want to punish, fine. But start punishing from now. Also, I've been using rollback due to my phone's awfulness. I just don't think it's a good idea to remove half a point for rollingback. Plus, there are viable reasons to use rollback. If a user has made numerous edits to a page. A single rollback click, as opposed to attempting to work out with parts were added/removed.  – Smashman (talk) 08:27, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Wow guys... Smashman, you're getting a Wiki Cap anyway and you're scoring well with or without that penalty. You use that feature because you're on a slow phone, sure, but you do fine regardless. This "penalty" isn't really a penalty, it just means you get 0.5 for a rollback rather than 1. It doesn't affect your score that much even when applied retroactively. As you said, it is an admin-only feature, and pretty much no one except you uses it, so stop panicking about it D: — Wind 16:21, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

WindBOT

I thought it didn't fuck with file names... -Shine[] 19:57, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Probably got confused by the recursive brackets (links in the caption). Anyway, TF2 should be capitalised in the file name — Wind 19:59, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Do you think you could make that handsome bot of yours update this whenever a new post is made? That would be sweet, thanks. – Smashman (talk) 13:50, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Ya D: It seems however that the RSS feed is in UTC time, while the blog posts's displayed time (not in the RSS feed) is in another timezone, as the days are different. Do you know what offset it is? — Wind 23:56, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to say PDT. -7. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=234Smashman (talk) 00:00, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
And thanks for being the wiki's code monkey since you decided to come along. We likely don't say thanks enough, but we love you. You're invaluable. You should get 400,000 Community weapons every 12 seconds. – Smashman (talk) 00:02, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Another satisfied customer! Also, thanks :3 — Wind 01:02, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Minor issue*I think*

Well, sometimes the diacritics look weird after WindBot appeared in some Romanian articles, but they return back to normal after a while, for example ş/ţ Ş/Ţ will turn into either some characters like caps-locked, or something smaller like a snake thing. Will this thing happen always?XD

PS: it seems that it returns to normal if I modify the post a bit ._. PPS: If this wasted your time, forgive me XD New Romanian-Translator Vulturas 15:52, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

PPPS: Now this thing continues in the edit-box XD

Might have a point, could you link me to an example diff where it does that?
Give me a minute XD Vulturas 16:43, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Noticed some mistakes so it took longer XD Meet the Team/ro Vulturas 16:46, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Don't forget to click that edit-thing :D Vulturas 16:54, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, this diff doesn't show any uppercase letter turned into a lowercase one... is that what you meant? Or do you mean that turning the thing into a "snake thing" is wrong? User Nightbox asked for it to be put in place. He is a Romanian translator, and if his filter is incorrect, you should talk to him. — Wind 16:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, languages, I meant that it looked weird while it was in edit, in my computer the lowercare ţ in the middle of the word looks like a Ţ, imma talk with him as soon as I can, thanks for the help.Vulturas 17:23, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
