Here's the guard, he could have taken the clip point from thousands of common daggers, it's a very popular blade shape. I want to note that this guard has been used in slight variations all across Middle East, but this is a good example of one and it's design is spot on with YTR. - http://www.ambroseantiques.com/images/mideast/turkdagger2.jpg

youtube

Before the page is added to the mainspace, I'd like to upload a shorter clip that only shows the relevant part. --Piemanmoo 02:00, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I've added a clip that shows YER from the point of view of the enemy team. I think this is a much better clip then the current one. --ShunyValdez 02:56, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
That video is very helpful, thank you. I didn't realize how quick the disguise really is. --Firestorm 15:53, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

bugs

Please add any found bugs with a * in front of it
  • Cannot switch disguise weapon
  • Backstab on an invincible enemy (Bonked, Ubercharged, ect) allows disguise
  • Animation seems glitched
  • Backstabbing while holing the intel allows you to be disguised without dropping it
  • The enemy team receives a kill notification when you backstab with this weapon
  • Backstabbing a scout wearing the essential accessories will leave the socks, wristbands and shoes on the ground

ive noticed you cant switch your disguised weapon while using this knife. im not sure where to put this in the article, so ill write it here for someone else to add --Mewizkuit 07:48, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

That's not a bug, it's one of the negative attributes of the knife. You disguise as the person you kill when you kill them.-RJ 09:17, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
  • Plus backstabs on Razorback Snipers allows you to disguise as one Sam-1-14 19:55, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

no, you dont seem to understand what im saying normally when you're disguised, you can switch what weapon your disguise is holding by pressing quick disguise after disguised with the new knife, you are unable to do this i can understand that this glitch is obviously derived from the fact that you cant use the disguise-kit, but i still think switching your disguised weapon should be allowed --Mewizkuit 09:37, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure that's a bug, merely an undesired down-side. But yes, email it to Robin. I hope they fix it.  – Smashman (talk) 09:49, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that seems like a bug to me. --Firestorm 14:17, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

I was just using that knife and backstabed a scout who was using bonk...and I got a disguise from him but he was still alive.Im not sure if its supposed to be like this but we should add that to the article. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by kexbiti (talk) • contribs)
Kexbiti, please sign all your comments with ~~~~. I'll add that note to the page. --Firestorm 15:22, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
ive tried backstabbing an uber enemy to see if it had the same effect. as expected, it did. i wonder if this is a glitch or if it was intentional? --Mewizkuit 18:09, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Mewiz, please use one extra colon when replying to a message above your own comment. To clarify, if you backstab an ubered pyro, you disguise as that pyro, even though he doesn't die? --Firestorm 18:13, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
sorry, i was replying to the message above yours, so i thought using one colon more than that one seemed like a more logical approach. but yes, that is how it works. i tried it on an ubercharged medic, but im sure it works the same way with other classes. --Mewizkuit 23:32, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

ive noticed that quite often, the swing animation for the knife doesnt show even though the sound plays (i dont know if it shows (or to be more accurate, doesnt show) for other players, but for the player swinging the knife its like this). this seems to be more common when you are actually hitting something with the knife. i dont know if this also happens when you backstab; i never bothered to pay attention. someone might want to look into that. --Mewizkuit 17:36, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, the first-person animation is a bit weird. --Firestorm 17:39, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
As I've heard, it is missing 2 out of 6 of its first person attacking animations. This needs vertification/fixing by valve.--Kurathedog 03:25, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

with this knife equipped, you can be disguised while holding intel. just make the backstab after you take the intel and you will become disguised without losing it. the intel is still shown on your back to opposing players, though, so its not all that useful. still, its probably a glitch --Mewizkuit 13:09, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

The enemy team receives a kill notification when you backstab with this weapon. Robin Walker said that this is a bug and should be fixed soon. I saw the email at the steam forum. --ShunyValdez 02:41, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm removing this from the trivia. It's been ~6 minor updates since this was posted and its still not fixed. I'm starting to doubt the email but its also possible that Valve decided its overpowered without the notification. We can put it back once its officially in-game. ShunyValdez 03:55, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

another problem ive noticed is that despite being called a silent killer, the spy isnt very silent when killing with it he will still voice things like "oh dear, ive made quite a mess" after backstabbing, and these things can be heard by players on the opposing team that are near enough, so it makes it obvious that there is a spy around. --Mewizkuit 06:44, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

i dont know if this is a glitch with this knife or with the game in general, but standing in certain spots causes the knife to turn entirely grey in the first person, removing all team color from it. i say this might not be only a glitch with the knife because it seems to have something to do with lighting. can anyone confirm other weapons this happens with? --Mewizkuit 23:03, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

  • Weapon reflecting purple/ pink void texture on the first person and play model. Any one else seen this? i've noticed it mostly on custom maps the shiney aspects of the weapon eg the blade seems to reflect the void texture and in the player veiw the whole knife appears to be purple/ pink --Pokeymeh 03:04, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

This might be a glitch which involves the enternal reward and the 'essential assessories'. When you backstab a scout who is wearing the 'essential assessories, you gain the disguise and his body dissappears but the socks, wrist bands and the shoes remain. Could this be a glitch or did valve intentionally did this? Skymonster 03:17, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Sorta, the code just causes the class model to disappear. Any additional items stay visible. So not a bug, but the code just wasn't fully written if you look at it that way. (as i continue to waffle) But yeah in terms of "Bugs" it is. User M-NINJA Signature.png 03:20, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Aladdin scene from Trivia section

Could someone who has watched the movie tell me when is that scene played? I need to watch just that scene to hear the same line in Polish so I can retrieve the name (as it's referenced from that scene). I don't want to watch the whole movie, I don't have time. Uzikus 10:04, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Right after Aladdin has picked up the lamp and the cave starts to collapse. They reach the entrance barely and he hands the lamp to Jafar in disguise (That old man is a Spy!). The scene plays right after that as soon as Jafar grabs Aladdin's arm and you hear 'what are you doing?' or something to that extent.--Focusknock 10:16, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I actually meant the exact time of the scene, but I found it anyway. Cheers. Uzikus 10:19, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Medics and ER

If I backstab someone being healed by a medic with the ER, does the medic automatically heal me, or does the healing stop and the medic has to manually start healing me again? Thunder9092 00:38, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

the heal beam will automatically be transferred to you, so no the medic doesnt have to start manually healing you again. --Mewizkuit 07:15, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
okay thanks. It seemed like if that was not the case then it would be a very obvious way to find a spy and would make taking out medic-partners very hard. Thunder9092 17:22, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Arena Mode and Disguise Kit

Im just wondering about this: "Sometimes in Arena Gamemode, a Spy carrying Your Eternal Reward will recieve a Disguise Kit at the start of the round(the rate is 50% of all rounds)." wouldn't this be a bug, and shouldn't it say so somewhere? also wondering where the 50% came from as well Scatmanjohn 18:41, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

That requires testing, I'll remove it until proof is obtained --Firestorm 18:42, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Defending The Intelligence With YER

What happens if you backstab a player carrying the intelligence? The enemy team isn't supposed to be able to see your kill on the kill feed; but they're able to see that you defended the intelligence? Or does your defense of the intelligence also not show up on the kill feed? Elen Sila 01:09, 13 December 2011 (PST)

I think I heard something...

I noticed that kils made with this knife are not 100% silent. In the demonstration video you can hear the ragdolls hitting the ground. It's that very distinctive 'splat' commonly used in source games. That sound saved me from a spy once, as I turned around just to see a spy stabbing me. I know it's a minor thing, but maybe we could add it to trivia or bugs or something. The 'splat' of the victim collapsing is not loud, but can attract attention when not drowned out by other sounds. I noticed it because it was out of context: Not hearing or seeing gunfire and then some body hits the floor nearby. The video also shows that the weapon the victim was holding does not turn invisible. Both of these cues might just reveal the spy if witnesses keep their wits about them. I always try to do that when playing as a medic. K-Raider NL 07:41, 16 April 2012 (PDT)

Yes, I've noticed this as well. In fact, on my previous computer, the body didn't cloak at all. I would stab someone, and they would begin the cloaking process, and blink back to 0% transparency. Must of been my graphics, because it works on my new one. In addition to the weapon not cloaking, blood can still be left after a spy stabs someone. Alloid 10:49, 1 November 2012 (PDT)

Mod Server Gameplay Mechanic

So I had added this blurb to the Trivia section, specifically to that section because it only occurs on mod servers...

  • On servers with mods that grant players impossible amounts of health, mods like rtd (Roll the Dice) and VS Saxton Hale/Freak Fortress 2, it is possible to backstab a player and disguise as their base class without killing them.

...only to have it removed fairly quickly. I feel that it's appropriate because it IS a mechanic, even if the majority of servers will never experience it. I don't want to get into an edit war so I'm posting here -- for the sake of completion, it fits in just as well in the Trivia section as the blurbs in that section that have nothing to do with gameplay at all.

Can you disguise without killing somebody on a vanilla server? No? Okay then, it isn't trivia. In fact, it doesn't belong in a trivia section in the first place: it's at the very most a bug. Spam90675 10:55, 1 November 2012 (PDT)
It's not really a bug. (I almost added it to the Bugs section, btw) Aside from the fact it's not part of official gameplay, the description says "Upon a successful backstab". If anything, that blurb of information demonstrates how far that part of the mechanic is taken. That said, I'll list out my arguments for inclusion:
  • There are already items in the Trivia section that have nothing to do with official gameplay. (i.e. Robin Walker's quote)
  • There are articles on the wiki for many server mods, including the two linked in my blurb.
  • The blurb could fit into those articles, but it's not limited to Hale-derived mods. It's a quality of the item itself.
  • People who read wikis will find it interesting.
Sure seems like a valid inclusion to me. Nerds like me who like to pick apart game mechanics will enjoy it. Sarysa 13:45, 1 November 2012 (PDT)
Like I said before, most server is vanilla server, not the mod server. And your trivia was talking about Mod and that trivia is really x of y. So that's why I removed. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 16:44, 1 November 2012 (PDT)
What do you mean when you say that trivia is really x of y? In any case that argument doesn't satisfy any of the points I made. Also was I violating any policy by posting it to begin with? If not, I may as well just add it back. Sarysa 09:17, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
If no rtd (Roll the Dice) and VS Saxton Hale/Freak Fortress 2 (X), you can't possible to backstab a player and disguise as their base class without killing them. (Y) User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 09:27, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
On the contrary, any other mod that grants more than 6x of the user's base HP as an overheal will allow this to occur. Read my bullet points, please. It's not limited to RTD or hale. I know of one server with a pacifist mod which gives pacifists 3000hp -- same deal. These mods do exist and they aren't rare, in fact rtd would be rated as merely "uncommon" if you were to use a typical RPG scale. (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, etc.) Like it or not, it's a quality of the item itself and a quirk of the game's programming. If you want, I'll log onto a hale server that allows YER this weekend and provide screenshot proof. But in the end, it's pretty trivial because it's not a part of official gameplay, as you said. It's not like I'm trying to add this note to a competitive gameplay article for YER, either. Sarysa 11:47, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
"Because it's not a part of official gameplay" all in trivia section that about gameplay must be "Official", and mod "isn't" official. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 16:08, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
The Aladdin reference has nothing to do with official anything either. Look, this is getting ridiculous. You started this argument by removing my contribution. Was I breaking wiki policy with my edit, yes or no. If so, please link to the policy. In wikipedia you'd see a link like WP:NPOV. Otherwise, I'll restore it but I'll more clearly state that the effect:
  • Cannot be achieved under normal circumstances.
  • Is not an artificially scripted effect of a mod (and I'll have more disclaimers before I list any mods)
  • Is tied purely to an overheal higher than 6x
I'm not going to break wiki policy, but I'm not going to have my edits removed just because someone doesn't like it. Sarysa 17:34, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
I checked at Aladdin's Private Reserve. Yeah, nothing to the official but your trivia is talking about Mod and Mod should not add in the trivia section. If you do that, many impossible trivia in Vanilla server will add and trivia will really mess. Please read the Guideline before and I hope this will be my last reply on this discussion. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 18:14, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
Spam90675 hit the nail on the head by describing this as a bug; it's something that defies the weapon's "normal" behaviour, rather than being an interesting fact about its visual/literary design or "normal" in-game functions. Now, if it could be triggered purely through standard gameplay mechanics on an unmodded server, then it would easily be accepted under the Bug section of this weapon page, but the fact that it requires console commands or server mods to even become possible means that it can't be considered a "normal" bug. Therefore, its inclusion on this specific page is highly debatable and probably not worth arguing for. If you absolutely must document this somewhere on the wiki, I'd recommend the Bugs sections on any of the relevant mod pages, where such information would have some value to the players of those mods. Mainman (TalkContribs.) 12:19, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
Heh, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling beat up over this. I don't feel like anyone's actually reading the bullet points I put out there. Look, it's a quality of the item regardless of the mod. Anything, and I say ANYTHING that results in the user being overhealed more than six times their maximum health will trigger the effect. If I added it to all the mod pages where this happens, I'd be spending a lot of time hunting for them. It's not really a bug, right, because it's not normal gameplay. But it exists, it happens, it's part of the gameplay mechanic for the item itself regardless of the means to do so. How is listing it under Trivia any worse than listing Robin Walker's quote? "Trivia" and "trivial" share the same etymology...YES, it's trivial information, but it's information that is pertinent to the item itself. Does it really hurt to have this as a bullet point under Trivia? (or more importantly, what are the seemingly arbitrary standards for listing anything under Trivia?) Sarysa 13:17, 2 November 2012 (PDT)

Domination/Revenge lines after undisguising

One time, I stabbed my nemesis with this knife and when I swung it again, when I undisguised, it played the revenge quote. Does this count as a bug? Or is it just part of normal gameplay (as you are undisguised)? TheTdw2000 (talk) 07:10, 7 November 2014 (PST)

A correction, more details regarding the dagger and it's origins/art source

Just in case someone wants to add a little portion about the daggers "inspiration" and it's origins.

Did a bit of research after seeing the error in the first sentence. The hilt of a dagger, sword, etc. is actually the entire part below the blade. Pommel, grip, and guard. So 'hilt' in the first sentence should be changed to 'guard' unless you're saying the entire hilt is curved like Count Dooku's light saber for example. There are also some more details you can add if you wish: The inlay is called Mother of pearl, the pattern is thought to be of Arabic origin being a Jambiya(Arabic for "dagger") dagger, and from the 19-20th century based on it's pattern and guard. The blade shape is called a clip point because it looks as if the top has been 'clipped'.

The artist seems to have combined a 19th and 20th century dagger, slightly altering the engraving on the blade(probably for simplicity's sake) and adding said clip point.

There are other daggers of this style from the time period, but YER is an exact copy of many details that belong specifically to this set of daggers being sold on etsy.
