Improveimage Removing
Hello:
Why are you removing the improveimage tag on some of the images? On all of them that you've removed the tag from I can definitely see a fire overlay. It's faint but I can see it. RagnarHomsar 18:24, 7 October 2011 (PDT)
- Which images can you see the overlay on o: Bojjob 18:26, 7 October 2011 (PDT)
Just a little protip...
When you are making hat or miscellaneous item images, make sure to use HWM models for said images. They're much higher in quality than the normal models, and allow for better expressions on the characters.
"HWM" models are located in the models/player/hwm folder. Ceiling Man 08:15, 1 March 2012 (PST)
Can I ask you something about HLMV?
I saw your BRONZE mercenary worn by classes images. Everytime I load id_badge.mdl from models\player\items\all_class, it appears as a gold mercenary.. and I couldn't change it after I spent two hours for this. Can you give me an advice?
Reverts
I hope you didn't got angry with some of my undos on some of your images you uploaded. Actually, thanks for taking time to make images and improve the quality of the Wiki, I was the only image uploader (for classes) for quite a while now, but now you showed up and someone else is also doing pictures, which is good. If you need help with pictures, just ask, but I don't know when I'm go reply, honestly. ▪ - 20:28, 6 October 2015 (PDT)
- Hey, no that's okay. If you think there's something wrong with my images, just revert them, I don't mind. I was just wondering... with the Harmburg, you said the spy was facing an inconsistent angle. What does that mean? I made him face the other way so that he wasn't hiding the detail on the side of the hat. I understand the cigarette was clipping from the face flexes but I was always told that I should remove any clipping I see first. Also can you advise me on how my lighting was odd? Thanks for all your help. Bojjob 05:59, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Most of the images here have the the class facing right, but looking left (to the viewer), but still standing at the center. There are some few exceptions for the detail of the hat, or simply because of variation or how better it looks, such as the Backwards Ballcap. Some of my images had the class facing left, but not as much as your Harmburg picture (Example 1, Example 2), in a nutshell, the image should show well the cosmetic, but it shouldn't show the class too much on a sideways view (Back items are an exception, because they need to be shown on the back, obviously, but still, they aren't directly facing at the back, there's a bit of tilting there for a better quality image). Maybe yours could be a reason for change it, I agree, however, the Paint Variant galleries already show how the hat looks sideways. The major reason I undo'd was the Lightning, I suppose you've adjusted the lightning on HLMV. I advertise you to not adjust the lightning in no-way, and keep it default. All images should have the same lighting, it looks very odd and inconsistency when the image has a different lighting than others. This is the default code for "lightrot" on regedit:
(0.000000 180.000000 0.000000)
. I'll have free time in the next week, if you want, I can make the new update pictures. There aren't many cosmetics, and... someone gotta do the 3D Images for the weapons, right? The only thing that I may not do are paint variants, because these take quite some time. I'm not even done with the Gun Mettle Cosmetics, I haven't updated the Rotation Sensation paint pics, for instance, and I haven't added all ROT and TRANS to the table. ▪ - 12:16, 7 October 2015 (PDT)- Also, one more thing, try cropping better your pictures. I don't know image editing software you're using, but GIMP has an auto-crop option. I think Photoshop (I'm assuming you're using it) also has. Here's also some other info I've put on someone's else UserTalk page: User_talk:Dr._Scaphandre#Some_stuff_of_your_pics.. ▪ - 12:54, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- I always use GIMP. The reason I crop my photos the way I do is because I much prefer square pictures, I feel that it keeps things nice and consistent and doesn't leave the pictures too close to the border. Bojjob 12:57, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- But it adds unnecessary space on the image preview, which also effects on the resized picture, it will make the class smaller due the boundaries of the picture being too big. Cropping has always been a consistency thing, I would advice you using it. It doesn't look bad on the page, and it does look a lot better than uncropped. ▪ - 19:10, 7 October 2015 (PDT)
- Another thing: I noticed that the Texture Quality isn't at High currently, compare these two images: (File:Phononaut.png and File:Insulated Inventor.png), do you see the Engi class emblem? The quality is a lot better. Try looking through your dxsupport.cfg to fix that (be sure to make a backup, who knows what could happen). ▪ - 11:54, 9 October 2015 (PDT)
- Huh, that's weird, I've set my dxsupport.cfg settings to the highest possible and I'm using HWM models as well... any ideas what it might be? 11:57, 9 October 2015 (PDT)
- Try downloading this, I pretty much put all the highest quality values in every video card, but once again, make sure to backup your file before replacing it. If that doesn't work, try looking into your Nvidia Video Card Settings/Catalyst Video Card Settings and enable some values for HLMV specific. ▪ - 14:45, 9 October 2015 (PDT)

- Try to use Stock Weapons always. It makes confusing for someone new in the game know that weapon is a different one than the default. Only use other weapons when the pose accommodates better (See: Poacher's Safari Jacket);
- If you're using a pose that holds a weapon, be sure to load the weapon as well. Showing the class holding nothing looks pretty abysmal;
- I know you don't like it, but try auto-cropping your pics, trust me, it's better;
- And finally, the lighting. Just keep it default and never adjust it (Default is: (0.000000 180.000000 0.000000)). Also, try looking if your HLMV is showing gray eyes. There's an issue with some video cards that makes the HLMV shows a more darker texture in some items/places, the only confirmed ones were the eyes of the Mercenaries and the Lord Cockswain's Novelty Mutton Chops and Pipe. As far I know, there's no fix for this. ▪ - 06:34, 10 October 2015 (PDT)

Hey
Thank you for the info about HLMV, though I had figured out about it shortly after making that awful image. Do you know where I can get a good tutorial/guidelines for HLMV screenshots for cosmetic items for future reference? Thanks, PePeToads (talk) 14:05, 15 October 2015 (PDT)
- Well the Model Viewer page should be enough to get you started, the rest is just up to you really. All you gotta do is load the HWM model that you need, load the hat as a "weapon", pick a good pose and then cut out the background and there ya go.
- Try looking at other pages first for examples of how yours should look.
- If you need any more tips you can probably check out the IRC Channel (there's a link on the box to the left) 14:17, 15 October 2015 (PDT)
- I tried without success to make the cosmetic BLU, any suggestions? There's not a whole lot out there on HLMV and the irc is quiet. PePeToads (talk) 00:14, 16 October 2015 (PDT)
- If you've just loaded the model itself, you can just change the skins. If you've loaded it as a "weapon", you'll have to swap the team coloured VTFs around in the files. Download GCFScape or something that can open VPKs to find the textures, rename the blu texture to the red one and place it in the same directory only in your "custom" folder. Then you just hit F5 in the model viewer and it'll change to BLU team. 04:25, 16 October 2015 (PDT)
