:It has been suggested before, but I think the reason they've not been implemented is because it takes very long to load them. For example, look at an old revision of the Item timeline page. At one point they've all been replaced to links, but they used to all be on the page. It would give an idea of how long it would take to load the Unusual page (and probably even longer). Maybe there is some workaround by simply having the templates have an optional GIF tab, but I think that'll also load really slowly. Maybe other people know a workaround, but to my knowledge it'll just end up with huge loading times.<br><font color="DB9C1F">GrampaSwood</font> (<font color="DB9C1F">talk</font>) 22:14, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello, GrampaSwood!

Welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Official Wiki!

Here are a few links to get you started:

  • If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
  • If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style guide.
  • Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
    • To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes.
    • You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
  • When posting on an article's Talk page you should add four tilde symbols or ~~~~ onto the end.
    • This will add a signature and timestamp to your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
    • Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
    • When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
    • You can use the Signature Icon.png button in the editing toolbar to quickly add a signature.
  • If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for a staff member.
  • If you have trouble with anything on the wiki or you're not sure about a specific topic, feel free to join the IRC.
  • You can also customize your user page if you like.
    • When uploading images for use on your user page, please add the prefix User GrampaSwood to the file's name.
    • Additionally, if you would like to add any self-made content to the wiki, please do so by adding the prefix User:GrampaSwood/ to the page title when you create the page.

Once again, welcome to the Team Fortress 2 Wiki!

WindBOT problem

I received your message, thanks.

However, the WindBOT keeps editing the "This user has deleted their Steam account." part on the "Koala Compact/zh-hans" page. Though I used the botignore template to avoid it editing this part, it still undoes my translation for this part.--ApertureLab (talk) 12:13, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Yep, I noticed that on the English page too. No real way to avoid it I suppose.

About the CritHitChance.png

I thought maybe someone could edit Critical hits and add some information on the crits chance changes, and add that old image which is about the difference of new and old crits chance mechanism, that could be useful.

By the way, since you already overwrite the old image, it's SVG source code could be deleted as well. I made the new image in a spreadsheet software. There's no source code to upload.

--AlexT 12:57, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

I think it may be better to keep this in case a new use is found for the old image (It's still saved in case it gets reverted). I'm not entirely sure what changes should be mentioned, update history is there to display the changes made and there is no need to mention how it used to work. If players want to find that out, there is a blog post in the references sectino that explains it.

Translated Videos

Hey! Why was that change necessary in the Polish versions of Meet the Team videos articles? The official ones don't have interlanguage subtitles. MatikTheSeventh (talk) 13:34, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

I've changed every single non-official video on every meet the team pages. The issue with non-official translations is that we have no way of knowing if any personal beliefs were put into the video (E.g. Meet the Pyro having every pronoun changed to "she" because the video uploader believes Pyro is a woman). There is also the issue of them being able to be taken down at any moment (For example, zh-hant Meet the Spy was non-existent, an English video is better than nothing). I'll see if anything can be arranged for subtitles on a wiki channel re-upload, but having videos from personal YT accounts is not good.

TCRF

Apparently you said it isn't accurate, and has no sources. I can send you proof about v_pda, if you wish to contact me on discord.

Alieneer#7667 K1ngD3D3D3 (talk) 18:17, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

The issue is that we need some kind of way to know that this is from Valve, without any doubt. This is very hard to prove and the sharing of files is exactly what is trying to avoid here, even "behind the scenes".
GrampaSwood (talk) 18:30, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sharing the original files, png's aren't the original files they are exports of the vtf, and as such are fine. Screenshots of the directories are fine as well. K1ngD3D3D3 (talk) 18:38, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
v_pda is also still in the final games, files so it wouldn't even matter if it was warez.

TFW:Discussion continuation

Moved from TFW:Discussion#Unused content policy to stay on topic.

So the issue is not some grudge against a user (We aren't petty), nor is it entirely about how trustworthy it is. This is an official Valve wiki, content hosted here that is not officially given by Valve or somehow reclaimable through the TF2 files from Steam (now or in the past) should not be hosted here. This should already be a thing on the wiki, even if in the e-mail Eric does not explicitly state it about other leaks it goes without saying. Verifying it is also an issue, but the bigger issue lies in Valve not wanting this.

As to how this is ban evasion. It's simple, he edits through you. You can claim to be another person but it's essentially the same thing, having another person/account do the edits you want to is evading the ban. No way around that.
GrampaSwood (talk) 18:37, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

I'm in contact with 404UNF, according to him, thefixed2021, is just a friend he has who is next door to him. K1ngD3D3D3 (talk) 18:46, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Regardless of that, 404 should not do this. He is banned for a good reason and this is, in fact, evading a ban to still edit. Different person/account, it's the same principle.
GrampaSwood (talk) 18:48, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
There is no proof that thefixer2021 is 404UNF, editing styles are not proof, and 404UNF's last ban was purposeful, it was him wanting to leave this site for good. K1ngD3D3D3 (talk) 18:52, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Besides Thefixer saying 404 edits through him, there is no proof yeah.
GrampaSwood (talk) 18:53, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
maybe remove that Boba dudes remark too since it's obvious what he's doing (trying to provoke drama to get me banned). I mean, I find it interesting how quickly he came to reply to that discussion after you posted it. Almost makes me think he was tipped off... Thefixer2021 (talk) 19:02, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
I DM'd him about it, as he is one of the few "regular" editors (seems to care about wiki-related stuff and wants to give input). same way I pinged all staff about it in the staff channel. Anyone else who puts their input into this kind of stuff usually checks the recent changes so it's not necessary. As for Boba's edit, it just seems to be something regarding the ban evasion which anyone is free to give their input on.
GrampaSwood (talk) 19:10, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
If it helps at all, I only almost blocked you because you were being a brat towards staff besides me. I usually just block on first bratty outburst but I'll try the diplomatic route this time. Maybe somehow the point that I don't like bratty little outbursts at staff besides me will reach its way back to 404 and he'll learn something for the first time in several years. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 06:32, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
Also, deciding to have a little flipping-the-game-board moment on that nav when all Swood did was ask a question about a policy concern - as part of his job in moderating content - is *not* how you discourage me from calling you a brat. Thankfully that "boba dude" (who I literally know nothing about besides that he reminds me of a tea ingredient) reverted your temper tantrum. Because I don't want this stuff disappearing off the wiki anymore than I *thought* you did as you can see from my Discussion post. You know, right up until you wiped out the links to it in that nav. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 07:59, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

TF2 Cheating Page

Regarding your redaction of the VAC Bypass, i think it should be included, as 1. it does not break any rules and 2. the anti aim section also shows how to perform a fake angle.

Electro spaz (talk) 00:25, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

It explains how to perform a cheat, this doesn't have to be explicitly stated in any rule to know that's not okay to list. I've removed the anti-aim section that describes how the cheat is performed in detail, as having one bad example doesn't make others okay.

Unusual Effect GIFs concept discussion.

Howdy there, Swood! I have a question that you may have the answer to. I've noticed that on the Unusual page, the listed Unusual effects are all still images, instead of a moving demonstration of what the effects look like and how they move in-game. I've been wondering if we could start creating GIFs to better display the particle effects and replace the old still images? It's something I've considered bringing up to the Wiki staff before, but haven't had the time to hop on the IRC to discuss it.

Hope to hear from ya'! --CaptainKodachrome (talk) 20:54, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
