The Direct Hit is an unlockable primary weapon for the Soldier. It is a high-tech rocket launcher with a slim barrel and small exhaust port, outfitted with a cosmetic scope imprinted with the Mann Co. logo on the left side.
Compared to rockets from the default Rocket Launcher, the Direct Hit's projectiles travel 80% faster, at a rate of 1980 Hammer units per second (135 km/h or 84 mph), and inflict 25% more damage to their target. For precision marksmen, the Direct Hit also scores mini-crits on airborne targets propelled into the air by explosions or Pyros using a charge from the Thermal Thruster, adding additional damage and negating damage falloff.
The splash radius of the Direct Hit's shots is reduced to 30%, forcing players to score "direct hits" on enemies in order to damage them. The radius of the splash zone is roughly 44 Hammer units, the width of an operational Teleporter. This tightened splash radius and increased damage only applies to enemies; the explosion acts like a default rocket to the Soldier who fired it, sharing the same radius and damage when calculating self-damage, allowing the user to rocket jump as normal.
The Direct Hit is automatically given to any player who obtains 11 Soldier achievements.

Trivia
- The Direct Hit was definitely not involved in the tragic explosion of American monkeynaut Poopy Joe's capsule. Mann Co.'s subsequent desire to give away the weapon was for completely unrelated and innocent reasons.[2]
- The Direct Hit was first teased on Day 4 of the WAR! Update in two different locations. Its muzzle is visible behind Saxton Hale on Page 10 of the comic, though its proportions are slightly distorted, and it is visible on the Engineer's chalkboard in the newspaper. It can also be seen on page 21 of the WAR! Update comic in the Administrator's lap.
