Following a blog post on the TF2 Official Blog by Saxton Hale on January 10, 2013, several cosmetic items were retired from the game and made unavailable for acquisition through regular methods.[1] These methods include purchases from the Mann Co. Store, unusual cosmetic unboxes, item drops or through craft results. The first batch of retired items have not been available since January 25, 2013.
Retired items can still be worn by the player, although new instances of these items are only obtainable by unboxing Mann Co. Supply Crates that specifically list them as a possible result, in Unique quality only. Existing retired cosmetics can be obtained through trading or by purchasing them from the Steam Community Market.
