Metal is a resource unique to the Engineer in Team Fortress Classic and is used in the construction, upgrade and repair of buildings. The Engineer spawns with 200 metal, which is the maximum amount that can be collected. Metal is dropped by players when killed, and can also be acquired from backpacks, armor, destroyed buildings, or from a Dispenser. When enemies die, they drop a Backpack. If an Engineer died, and drops this pack, based on how much metal he had in his life, you will gain that amount when you pick it up. If an enemy dies and drops this, you will gain between 100, and 200 metal.


  • The Sentry Gun costs the Engineer 130 metal to build and 130 metal to upgrade at each level.
