The Private Eye is a headwear item for the Spy and Demoman. It is a Template:W hat with the Mann Co. label stitched on the front and two team-colored matches sticking out of the right side, with a third sticking out above them with a burnt-out head.

- The Private Eye was contributed by the Lead Character Artist at Template:W.[2]
- The deerstalker is a hat generally worn for stalking deer, as its name implies. However, it's most commonly associated with fictional English private detective Template:W, who is usually depicted as wearing one (even though he was never officially described as doing so).
- Private Eye is slang for Template:W. The term was made popular in detective movies.
