− | + | | |
− | While the Sniper tends to isolate himself from the frontlines, the Huntsman | + | The Sniper is a rugged and ready crack shot from the Australian Outback. The primary goal of the Sniper is to kill targets using his rifle's Headshot ability, effective at distances which other weapons will struggle to even hit enemies, let alone kill outright. He can also use his Submachine Gun or Kukri to deal with foes at a closer range, although is often at a significant disadvantage when doing so. Therefore, the Sniper prefers taking to hiding in elevated or hard-to-see spots, where the he can pick off slower classes like the Heavy with ease. While the Sniper tends to isolate himself from the frontlines, the Huntsman allows him to move up the field, launching powerful arrows while his ancient and mysterious Jarate powers can increase damage dealt against his foes by himself and teammates alike. Despite his specialty being instantaneous kills with headshots the Sniper is also able to equip the Sydney Sleeper and provide valuable mini-crits to the rest of his team at a distance. |
− | The Sniper is voiced by John Patrick Lowrie. | + | The Sniper is an excellent class for supporting the rest of the team as he is able to help pin the enemy at choke points from a long range, allowing him to avoid danger. The Sniper has a long-running feud with the Spy, who targets him because he is often too focused on the battlefield in front to identify threats from behind. |

+ | *Despite claiming that, according to his motto, he is "polite", the Sniper harshly insults all his dominated opponents.
+ | |||
+ | *The Sniper keeps a bobblehead of the Team Fortress Classic Civilian on the dashboard of his van.
+ | |||
+ | *The Sniper lives in a camping van; a fact that the other classes tend to make fun of.
+ | |||
+ | *According to the new "Loose Canon" comic, the Sniper is quite unlike his Australian brethren. Unlike the Australians who are apparently mustachioed strongmen who like to fight hand-to-hand, the Sniper is a scrawny, shaven sharpshooter who prefers to attack from afar. This is perhaps why he does not get along with his parents well. Lack of Australium exposure may account for these inconsistencies.
+ | |||
+ | *The Sniper's world model changes depending on your primary weapon (arrows on on the back with the Huntsman, and tranquilizers are in the front right pocket in his shirt instead of bullets when equipped with the Sydney Sleeper).
+ | |||
+ | *The Sniper is the only class whose world model changes in some way when he uses weapons different than his default. When he wields the Huntsman, his normally empty rifle holster on his back is filled with arrows. When he wields the Sydney Sleeper, his jacket pocket holds Tranquilizer rounds instead of bullets.
+ | |||
+ | *The Sniper exhibits an almost bipolar behavior, if he were to dominate two opponents in rather quick succession, he may harshly insult one and quietly apologize to the other victim.

“ | Snipin's a good job, mate! It's challengin' work, outta doors. I guarantee you'll not go hungry, cause at the end of the day, long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone dead.
— The Sniper on his profession
|
” |
The Sniper is a rugged and ready crack shot from the Australian Outback.
The Sniper is an excellent class for supporting the rest of the team as he is able to help pin the enemy at choke points from a long range, allowing him to avoid danger. The Sniper has a long-running feud with the Spy, who targets him because he is often too focused on the battlefield in front to identify threats from behind.
The Sniper is voiced by John Patrick Lowrie.

Basic strategy
- The longer you spend zoomed in using the scope, the more damage the shot will inflict.
- Aim for the head to inflict critical damage.
- Zoom in with the sniper rifle by hitting MOUSE2.
- Use your secondary slot Submachine Gun to deal with nearby enemies.
- When you use Jarate on a enemy, it will make every shot you hit a mini-crit, therefore try not to waste it.

The Sniper removes the arrow from his bow, twirls it behind him, then stabs it forward fiercely to stun the enemy momentarily. He then brings the arrow back to his bow again, killing the enemy. It is the quickest and Kill taunt and possibly the easiest to use. Can also kill enemies behind the Sniper when he withdraws the arrow. |

- When the Sniper moves whilst defenceless at the end of the round, certain hats such as the Company Man will clip through his head.
Trivia
- In his fight scene with the Spy in Meet the Spy, the Spy makes a cut from the left side of the Sniper's cheek to his nose with his Knife. The scars were added to the Sniper's in-game model with the Sniper vs. Spy Update.
- The Sniper's voice actor, John Patrick Lowrie, is married to Ellen McLain. McLain voices the Administrator, as well as GLaDOS from the Portal series and Half Life 2's Combine Overwatch Voice. Also, John voices all of the citizens in Half Life 2.
- Template:W served as the original BLU team Sniper.
- The Sniper's sunglasses, hair and hat make an appearance in Worms: Reloaded as one of the hats selectable for the players' worms.
- The Sniper class from Monday Night Combat received the Sniper's regular stock hat, under the name "Mental Illness", during a cross promotion with Team Fortress 2. The name of the item is a reference to Meet the Sniper during the Sniper's conversation with his dad explaining that being an assassin, as he claims to be, is a job, while being a crazed gunman, as his dad thinks he is, is mental sickness.
