Robin's getting married? *trollface* Problem 17:01, 19 December 2011 (PST)
- He found a special someone whose love of hats matched his. Just a Gigolo - (talk) 17:04, 19 December 2011 (PST)
- My theory is this: Someone's making a TF2-based marriage proposal. L4D2 and Portal 2 have been used in the past, with the one in Portal 2 having Ellen McLain, the voice of GLaDOS and the Administrator making custom lines. We shall see. Sven 18:33, 19 December 2011 (PST)
What could this mean?
A diamond engagement ring...in TF2?! Either this is something REALLY big or some promo item for a dating sim that's coming to Steam or something. What do you think this means? Are Pyro and Engineer going to get married? Is one of the TF2 staff getting married? Is Valve going to officially add female character skins to the game and introduce them as the brides of our favorite TF2 mercs?! Blk Mage Ctype 18:27, 19 December 2011 (PST)
- I have a feeling that this will end up being like the Top Notch, whereas this item is only being added so that someone can propose to their significant other. I wouldn't count on it being publicly available, and the fact that it's apparently gift-wrappable just adds to the obvious nature of this item being a single-purpose item for someone to use in a proposal. 404: User Not Found (talk) 18:34, 19 December 2011 (PST)
- Interesting. It'd be pretty cool to get engaged in TF2. :P -an incoherent rambling by iamtehlolrus 19:08, 19 December 2011 (PST)
- I wonder if there will be an achievement linked to this item? I wonder if they will allow gay marriage? Zachary 16:44, 21 December 2011 (PST)
Mann Co. Store Advertisement
"You did really found someone really important? Someone, who makes a lot of things to you? Someone, who GIFTED you hats?
Thant's why we've just filled our stores with Something Special For Someone Special.
Now, you can afford your heart, soul, wallet and other guts without leaving our phenomenal product! Just look at this: it's better, it's more beautiful and... YES, YOU'VE GUESSED WELL WITH YOUR HIPPIE BRAINS! It's much cheaper, than in other store next road, street or city!
If you find a present better and cheaper, than our one — send me their address. We will CUT their HEADS with our PRICE billboard."
Am I the only one, who expect something like this? Limie Pie 11:13, 20 December 2011 (PST)
- I'm confused. Sven 13:47, 20 December 2011 (PST)
- Translation: "I think this will be sold in the Mann Co. Store, and I have written a slightly incomprehensible blurb for it if it were to be done in this manner. However, this is not yet factual, and is simply my own expectations written out." No, this is not from the store, it's just a blurb "Limie Pie" thinks would fit the item. We still don't know if it will be available in the store or not. Sinez 05:55, 21 December 2011 (PST)
- The page already says "crafting item" suggesting another editor already knows it will be craftable and therefore nothing to do with store bought? (At least not exclusively) --Casperr 14:57, 21 December 2011 (PST)

- Here's the info from items_game.txt:
"699" { "name" "Something Special For Someone Special" "first_sale_date" "2011/12/19" "capabilities" { "nameable" "1" "can_gift_wrap" "1" } "item_class" "craft_item" "show_in_armory" "1" "item_type_name" "#TF_Wearable_Ring" "item_name" "#TF_SomethingSpecial" "item_description" "#TF_SomethingSpecial_Desc" "image_inventory" "backpack/player/items/all_class/something_special" "image_inventory_size_w" "128" "image_inventory_size_h" "82" "item_quality" "unique" "min_ilevel" "100" "max_ilevel" "100" "attributes" { "cannot trade" { "attribute_class" "cannot_trade" "value" "1" } } "mouse_pressed_sound" "ui/item_metal_scrap_pickup.wav" "drop_sound" "ui/item_metal_scrap_drop.wav" }
- The interesting thing is that the item is listed as "TF_WearableRing", and the "Wearable" part makes me think this may be a Miscellaneous item, as most things that are labelled as "TF_Wearable" are things like the Gunboats, Chargin' Targe, Ali Baba's Wee Booties, etc. It's nameable, and gift-wrappable, but not tradable. It also has a first sale date listed as 2011/12/19, yet it's not in the store (is it?) 404: User Not Found (talk) 15:09, 21 December 2011 (PST)
- Being a craft item doesn't exclusively mean it can be obtained by crafting. At the moment the availability part of this article is incorrect, I am changing it back to "Unknown". Yes it is a craft item, no as far as we know it cannot be found by crafting itself. seb26 18:56, 23 December 2011 (PST)
- This. This is why you're the man, seb. I was actually thinking this same thing before I reverted that edit, but I didn't know whether or not to switch it to like, "N/A" or something. But yeah, thanks for clarifying things seb :D 404: User Not Found (talk) 19:14, 23 December 2011 (PST)
Critical Failure Gamers Union
Seeing as I'm in this group, I would be the one to tell you. Our founder, Kalen/Hank proposed to Liz/Landshark about a week before the item was added into the game. We're probably one of the largest TF2 groups on Steam with over 1000 members. We, CFGU, are currently unsure of why this was added, but we suspect it was Hank's doing. This may clear something or other up. Dustin681 20:26, 23 December 2011 (PST)
- Brilliant revelation there if it turns out to be the reason the ring is in the game :) Congratulations to them both either way! One thing that still confuses me is why it is listed as a craft item though! Oh well, I'm sure time will tell Casperr 08:06, 24 December 2011 (PST)
- Actually, CFGU isn't "one of the largest groups in the game". Hells Gamers, if I remember correctly, has over 100,000 members. SLAG Gaming has around 18,000. And there are plenty of other non-Official Game-groups that have over 10,000 members. CFGU is like, in the lower 9th percentile of large groups. I've never even heard of them until this message, but I'm going to check out the group. It sounds cool. (This of course obviously sounds like nitpickery/random babbling on my part, but I just felt like dropping some knowledge, yo) Onto the item. I doubt Valve would have added this item in a week after the guy already proposed. Chances are, this item is meant for some other person who is going to propose, and who's girlfriend plays TF2 but hasn't seen any info on this item yet. Otherwise, the aspect of surprise is just out the window. 404: User Not Found (talk) 08:35, 24 December 2011 (PST)
Valentine's Day
Just a theory, but has anyone noticed that Template:W is in a few weeks? Valve hasn't really done much in the past, but this could be for some event around then. Or not. ~ RedXM T • C • S 18:04, 25 January 2012 (PST)
- Speculation is best left to the forums. We won't say it is because of coincidence. Fyahweather 18:27, 25 January 2012 (PST)
The price is too high
this page is about discussions, right?
who's is about to rage and rant? yes, me
alright, new update and this finally came out. i got on and went to the store. $100 for it. who in their right mind would buy it for that much. oh wait, 10 mins in the game and someone already bought it and used it. i wanted to get it for my gf. but i dont have $100 to spend, even if i did. i would prefer to get her something in real life instead of a game. i have a better chances to get an unusual from the 40 keys that would cost about the same of buying that and gift her the unusual. yeah this item would be better and it would be special, but not for no $100. maybe $50. if i get $50 i might do it, but not for no $100. im 19 and about to go into the U.S. Marines. after i get out, im still not buying an in-game only item for no reason, why valve, WHY!!!!
i really dont care about my spelling atm — The preceding unsigned comment was added by S.S. Dragon (talk) • (contribs) 16:44, 15 February 2012 (PST)
- This page is for discussion of the page itself, not the pricetag. Take it to SPUF. ~Sven 16:47, 14 February 2012 (PST)

Name Tag
Can you use name tags on them? I got this message today, and I'm assuming its a renamed ring... http://prntscr.com/65gcg --NZtheGingerNinja 02:02, 15 February 2012 (PST) yep, but only before sending the ring to the loved one. Ironmask 06:26, 15 February 2012 (PST)
- No, you name it when you gift it, but the name cannot be changed. Balladofwindfishes 06:35, 15 February 2012 (PST)
you've said my affirmation, with other words :) Ironmask 00:53, 16 February 2012 (PST)
Example of ingame notifications
can someone add screenshots of the ingame notifications? i'm at work now and i've only seen then 'for the lulz' on 4chan. Also the page need a "for the lulz" chapter, they're awesome! Ironmask 06:22, 15 February 2012 (PST)

Can we get some pics and such of the diamond band miscellaneous item? CoolJosh3k 18:00, 15 February 2012 (PST)
Top o' the page's quote
Given that taking quotes from the lore is fine (see Huntsman), I'm in favor of:
"It's ring-shaped, it's gift-wrapped, it's basically useless, and it's really expensive ($100!). In short, it's the most accurate simulation of an actual Valentine's Day gift ever made available to the public."
Eh? Ehhhh? -- InShane 08:32, 15 February 2012 (PST)
Australian Christmas
Even if this item was initially added on December 19th, it wasn't available under yesterday, Valentine's Day, so I don't know if it should be included with the rest of the Australian Christmas 2011 items. Am I right? --Arizone 16:06, 15 February 2012 (PST)
- I agree that it should get booted out of the christmas nav box. --Org 01:02, 16 February 2012 (PST)
Change quote?
Personally i think the heavys, "Kiss me!" whould fit in kinda better =P — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gamegamer0 (talk) • (contribs) 02:00, 16 February 2012
- Generally, if there's anything written about the item on the blog, we use a quote from that as it's much more specific.» Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 03:36, 16 February 2012 (PST)
Backpack Icon
Just to clarify, is the backpack icon in the infobox the item as shown in the backpack when purchased from the Mann Co. Store? Also, does the description and the image change when the item is opened?
That's the sense I'm getting from the article, but not from the images themselves. --Upgrade 21:31, 16 February 2012 (PST)
Silencing the Alerts
After seeing way too many goddamn Alerts, I'd like to point people to the Advanced Options setting, specifically on how to silence the Alerts option this thing keeps popping up. The Alert sound can still come up, but I want to know if someone has found out if a silent WAV file will overwrite it as a mod.
This was the most annoying goddamn thing I've seen in this game. Especially after failures such as a alert going "A perpetual bond of commitment between Reddit and /b/ 4chan, forever and ever and ever. XoXoX"...
I'm not sure which is more pathetic, the fact someone tried making a joke like that or the fact some dumbass spent over $100 to show it... DennoCoil 04:12, 17 February 2012 (PST)
title edit Erikerikerik 14:31, 22 February 2012 (PST)

price
should'nt we put the price down after purchase in the info box? Thespy 16:53, 22 February 2012 (PST)
- What do you mean after purchase? —Moussekateer·talk 16:55, 22 February 2012 (PST)
- I think he means that if he purchases an item in the store via the item wiki page, the price disapears in the wiki page of the item purchased. I don't think that's possible, Thepsy ! Carez 16:59, 22 February 2012 (PST)
Why is this listed as a tool
On both the page itself and on the Miscellaneous items page it is listed as being a misc. item but is still listed as being a tool? Should this be changed? {{subst:void|This template should always be substituted. Please change {{Unsigned}} to {{subst:Unsigned}}}}— The preceding unsigned comment was added by CrimsonYoshi (talk) • (contribs) 2024-12-25, 10:54 UTC
- Technically speaking, the item BOUGHT in the store is a tool that is used. Only after it is accepted that it "changes into" a misc. item for both parties. ~Sven 21:57, 6 March 2012 (PST)
- Shouldn't there at least be something for its attributes after it becomes a misc? {{subst:void|This template should always be substituted. Please change {{Unsigned}} to {{subst:Unsigned}}}}— The preceding unsigned comment was added by CrimsonYoshi (talk) • (contribs) 2024-12-25, 10:54 UTC
- There should, but I have no idea how that would work. ~Sven 15:17, 9 March 2012 (PST)
- Maybe the page should be seperated in Something Special For Someone Special(tool) and Something Special For Someone Special(misc) one will have the misc attributes and use the current picture with the spy and the other will use the picture of the ring before is gifted and list its attributes as a "tool" i.e. Decal Tool. {{subst:void|This template should always be substituted. Gifting the ring
Whats happens to the description: "A perpetual bond of commitment between [Sender] and [Recipient], forever and ever and ever. XoXoX" if the item is gifted to another person? Will the description remain with an additional gift tag? Anyone ever seen a gifted ring? --CroyAlore 00:31, 14 March 2012 (PDT)
