hat's availability?

I would assume that a future update will allow a user to link his SPUF account his Wiki account and his Steam account so that the Wiki Cap and other special reward items can be given out more easily.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xury46 (talk) • contribs) 00:32, 2 October 2010

If the conditions to get the hat are unknown why is the hats availability set to drop? RpR 08:33, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

That was the default value, it has been fixed now. seb26 [talk] 08:50, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

This is one of the reason why I'm here. My goal is to get this. It won't be easy but hell, worth the try. Rong 14:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm gonna bet it's for Admins/Mods Only :D Blackbird 17:14, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Haven't they all got shiny weapons already? :P There is some discussion about it on Smashman's Talk Page --CruelCow 17:18, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Better question: how are they going to link our edits to our Steam accounts? Fizzix 19:40, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Maybe they'll email us and request our Steam account info. I'm just guessing, though. ChuckleNuts 20:03, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

I assume it would have to be through email, I don't see any other way really. --The Blueberry Villain 20:20, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

  • Suffice to say, if you only signed up yesterday and make only a few changes here and there just for the hat, you probably won't get one. It's meant to recognise long-time valuable contributors. That's not to say that anyone who has just signed up can't get one in the future, but for the moment it is likely to be the mods, admins, and a lot of other users and translators who have done a lot for the wiki over the past months. seb26 [talk] 22:00, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
All us mods and admins do not have community weapons anyway, only some of us who have been here for longer than about a year or so. For example, I do not have one. --Firestorm 03:00, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

The possibilities of the obtaining the hat should be added in trivia (really for some who didn't understood its furuther purpose ^_^)

Can a comment on this discussion page earn me a hat? --P0p-dog 06:32, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

I just checked your backpack and you got one :D! Congrats seb26 [talk] 06:36, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
[insert dramatic victory music] Jestre 07:32, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

It might be the case. I just hope i can get one of these things. Mr. Hoff 12:43, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

I want one too... Pwrkaril 23:31, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

3 Skins

Can anyone confirm whether the hat has 3 skins, a RED, a BLU and a black skin?  – Smashman (talk) 09:00, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Red and Blu. You can paint it black if you get black paint, I assume. -- En Ex (talk) 09:12, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
But... But... Valve... Why? :( It came with the 3 skins for a reason. Why? Black looked so cool. :(  – Smashman (talk) 09:30, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah...well, if I get that black paint, I'm gonna use it on the Wiki cap and make a black one...maybe. Maybe. I don't know how I'd revert it, though, if I wanted to. -- En Ex (talk) 09:33, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
And the name is so boring and the description is so sarcastic. Oh they ruined it. :(  – Smashman (talk) 09:36, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
I feel so underappreciated due to that, even with my general laziness. Editing web pages is hard! Sort of. Noizeblaze 17:28, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
The Wiki hat will have the normal Blue and Red colours. It can be painted and named if the owner of the hat has a Paint Bucket or a Name User: Worieri 21:55, 1 October 2010.

so....can i have one? mark pwnable is my steam account

Possible Reason for Not Having Wiki Caps Yet

I was playing around with it in the SDK Model Viewer. It looks like the wiki cap doesn't attach to its designated bone properly. Valve is (hopefully) working on it. -- MistahFixIt 18:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Don't know. It's not positioned to the head attachment, yet the model itself has class-specific animations like the Parasite hat. -- Vi3trice (talk) 19:14, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

Not sure if this is important enough to put on the pain page, but has anyone pointed out the large resemblance to M. Bison's hat from Street Fighter? babby 1 October 2010 10:15

May also be worthwhile to note in the trivia section that it is based off the traditional bellboy/hotel porter uniform. Adthegreat 2 October 2010 10:40

I noticed the Bison Resemblance... 18:40, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

What is that on the medic's face in the picture?!

Looks like... Michael 22:04, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Skin? Teeth? One eye? I'm missing something --Firestorm 22:05, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm guessing he's referring to the light on the medic's face, specifically his chin, looking much like *ahem* bodily fluids. A no-phong model would go a long way in removing the light/glare effect. Delacroix 05:43, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Police cap

It's meant to resemble a Police's hat, because we patrol. Geddit? :D  – Smashman (talk) 23:37, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Keepers of the peace in the churning insanity that is Team Fortress 2 -- MistahFixIt 23:53, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
THAT should be the description. Not the silly sarcastic crap it currently is.  – Smashman (talk) 23:55, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Email Robin. :D -RJ 23:57, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
I plan, as soon as humanly able, to rename the wiki cap to something classy and/or witty. So far, the best I've gotten is 'The Recent Change' :P -- MistahFixIt 00:02, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
This makes a lot more sense. -- OluapPlayer (t) Howdy, pardner! 00:04, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Who said any of you are getting one? :P  – Smashman (talk) 00:06, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I said I am getting one... and you said I am getting one too - before I was a mod - when it was still a secret. :)-RJ 00:09, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
He also told me I would get a community weapon, back in JUNE --Firestorm 00:14, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
You will give me you, you know you love me. -- OluapPlayer (t) Howdy, pardner! 00:15, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok. You are all getting one. But ONLY because your mothers are all RAVISHINGLY sexy.  – Smashman (talk) 00:29, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Do I get a community weapon too? --Firestorm 00:32, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll need a can of Noble Hatter's for that cap. -- Vi3trice (talk) 00:35, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh? Excellent. Comic 00:43, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure Firestorm. I wouldn't bank on it though.  – Smashman (talk) 00:49, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm a bit confused. Is this supposed to be for anyone who's got the brains to edit a wiki or not? General coolio 01:12, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

No, it's to be earned by those of whom have dedicated a lot of time and effort in to this wiki. Not those who have joined up and made a few edits here in hope of a free hat.-RJ 01:18, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
But how do you measure time and effort? I haven't been around for terribly long, and I only make a few minor edits here or there for readability and clarity, but that doesn't mean I came here for a free hat. Randomscripter 01:25, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Those of us who knew how the hat would be given out have been reluctant to say for that exact reason: There isn't really an easy and fair way to measure time and effort. If you don't get one it doesn't mean your considered useless. Deciding who deserves it is complicated. I'm sure you can understand this - and that this is why we've been keeping quiet. -RJ 01:34, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Of course. I'm just raising a point, that's all. Randomscripter 01:50, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
It's just slightly nerving to see loads of people creating user pages with "I'm here for the hat" kind of thing. It's not like the Gibus or Gentlemanne's Service Medal. Besides posting your Steam IDs for that reason alone is fairly useless. Infi^ 01:54, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
You mean people are actually doing that? Like, literally? Then again, I really shouldn't be surprised- the TF2 community has proven that it can go to extremes to get headgear of any sort. Randomscripter 01:59, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
"Oh hai! I made this userpage to get a Wikihat, here's my Steam Id: " That kind of stuff --Firestorm 02:00, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Just take a look at the fourth comment on the first section of the talk page. -- Vi3trice (talk) 02:02, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh my. I didn't even see that. That's just...silly, for lack of a better word. Randomscripter 02:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I think I'm going to name my Wiki cap "Smashman's Mom." Smashmom? -- En Ex (talk) 02:26, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Being vague is the exact wrong thing to do, because of course you're going to get six million people saying they're just there for the hat. Considering the amount of "effort" that Valve wanted people to put into getting special items already, it's only fair to say that the current one requires a bit of effort. It saves on bandwidth too, because spammers would at least be a bit deterred, and nothing's going to get overloaded trying to send an excess of noreply e-mails to confirm e-mail addresses. Then again, maybe not. There will be an endless stream of complaint e-mails toward valve anyways. General coolio 02:33, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
If we declare X edits to be the perfectly defined, no-two-ways-about-it criteria for obtaining a Wiki Cap, what do you think everyone will do? Add useful, significant information to the pages and continue contributing even after being rewarded for broadening the scope of TF2 players' knowledge? -The Neotank ( | Talk) User The Neotank Signeotank.gif 02:49, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict D:) If you're referring to the Wiki Cap's description, I don't think any of us Wiki guys had anything to do with that (I could be wrong). I'm not entirely against it's vagueness anyhow, I think it's good we got a huge increase in contributing members, I'm sure some of them will stay and become regular contributors (and earn their Wiki Cap). -RJ 02:51, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
That is a good point. Posting anything predefined could be more harm than good. What I meant, though, was more of a "You can go and edit a page and you will get the hat" or "you will have to have made yourself apparent as a thoughtful, well-read contributor to earn the hat. In some cases, however, it is impossible to mention something and give precisely the correct amount of information. "Nobody has been given the wiki hat yet." Was a truthful (as far as I know,) and very diplomatic response. It tends to shy people away as well as make them curious to what requirements there are to getting the hat. Quite honestly, I'd be more than happy leaving it up to Valve to decide who gets them, rather than just giving them to everyone who posts something stupid. For the people that don't get them, the hats will become just another golden wrench, and will disappear in the minds of some after a couple of months. For the sake of completing my collection, I can't say I'm uninterested, but right now, if it doesn't seem fit that I would deserve a wiki hat, I could always busy myself with trying to get the other stuff released in the pack. The game is supposed to be about fun anyways.General coolio 03:45, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Well Coolio, thank you for being generally awesome and intelligent about this. Truly, the majority of us mods and admins don't know more about this hat then the rest of the TF2 community. We were never given an opportunity to explain exactly how it is earned because we were never told ourselves. Also... FUN?! in MY TF2? Iz not possibul! --Firestorm 03:48, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if I'll get one, but as my user page syas, I'm here to help set things straight about my favorite game, not get a a hat for it. This reminds me, I hope to God, 500 people won't start coming in and editing periods, commas, and other little things just to get the friggin' hat! D: --EvilDeadFan Pyro Blue Big.jpg 03:55, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, Firestorm! I'm glad that you guys are so friendly and accepting. It's a community that I really am coming to enjoy. I can see how it can be frustrating not knowing the whole story, and yet still being pressed for information. And what was I thinking? Fun? I must be drinking too much Jarate. Haha General coolio 04:00, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
When you get the chance, feel free to come join us in IRC sometimes. The link is in the top right left when you go to recent changes --Firestorm
Thanks! I'll just have to take you up on that offer. --General coolio 04:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Uh, I've clicked the link to #tfwiki, made an account, and then nothing. Could I have a bit of help?General coolio 04:08, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Most people think we're a bunch of elitists who know more things than the rest of you. We do not (otherwise we'd write it down on the page). Thank you for your patience and understanding :3 As for he IRC channel, click the little "[w]" link next to it, it should be easier — Wind 04:09, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I found the W. Unfortunately it's a bit late, so I'll hang around a bit more on IRC tomorrow. Thank you guys for helping me take the time to understand about both this topic and other wiki-related things.--General coolio 04:13, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I doubt I'll get one too. However, it is a double edged sword. People will want one and come to this wiki and either one: be genuinely useful or two: the above mentioned issues. In some cases, bad publicity is good publicity (Those Wiki elves are getting hats!), but this might not be it, especially with the changes of clogging. But sorting criteria for the hats is a bit complicated. Time? Well, you could have created an account in the early days, and have not used it since. Edits? A lot of those could be failure to use the preview button (On a Wiki, it is more important than drugs, power or women. It is the only pussy you maggots will ever get.) Tonnes of text? Could be gone, or no longer relevant what with those frequent nerfs and patches and whatnot.
It is complicated.
Also, damn my slowness in typing. We're not elitists, we know just as much as anybody else about TF2. We just write it down, we're odd like that. Noizeblaze 04:20, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, that's how we roll! :D --EvilDeadFan Pyro Blue Big.jpg 05:04, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
