Item Retirement was announced in an official blog post on January 10, 2013. The blog post, authored by Saxton Hale, stated that nine hats would no longer be available from the Mann Co. Store, the item drop system, unboxed as unusual or crafted as of January 24, 2013. The hats will still be available in unique quality through uncrating crates that contain them.
