Mann up mode.png

Mann Up is the official version of the Mann vs. Machine game mode that allows players to receive items upon finishing a mission. The mode is accessible only by owning a Tour of Duty Ticket, a tool that allows entry into official Mann Up servers, which is consumed upon finishing a mission. A Squad Surplus Voucher is presentable as well, giving all players in the game an additional item upon completion of the mission, including players who did not present a Squad Surplus Voucher of their own. Like regular Mann vs. Machine, random drops are obtainable, and the Power Up Canteen is obtainable and usable. Any weapon is usable with no restrictions.

Tour of Duty badges

Tour of Duty badges or Operation badges are items given to players upon completing their first Mann Up mission in Operation Steel Trap, Operation Oil Spill, Operation Gear Grinder, Operation Two Cities or Operation Mecha Engine. The badges are the Operation Steel Trap Badge, the Operation Oil Spill Badge, the Operation Gear Grinder Badge, the Operation Two Cities Badge and the Operation Mecha Engine Badge, respectively. The badges are all-class cosmetic items that count how many missions the player has completed, similar to the Dueling Badge. Each mission that is completed is added to the badge's counter. Completed missions will use the Tour of Duty Ticket, but uncompleted missions will not, leaving the ticket open for another mission. Missions that are lost or disconnected from will not use the ticket. Upon completing a tour, the tour progress will be wiped, the Tour of Duty Badge will increase its level by one, and another tour can be taken. Tickets are once again required for every mission of the tour.

Abandoning a game

When a player repeatedly leaves a game, they will be temporarily put into a low-priority pool for matchmaking, causing them to experience longer matchmaking times in the future. A player will be found to be "abandoning" a game when all the following conditions are met:

  • Leaving a game while playing a Mann Up game on an official server.
  • Leaving without playing through a single wave to completion or failure.
  • There are 5 or more players currently connected to the server (including the player).

Therefore, the player is never penalized if they play in Boot Camp (normal) mode or on an unofficial server, leaves after completing at least one wave (no matter the outcome), or has three or fewer teammates.

When a player chooses to leave a game, pressing the "disconnect" button will warn him either that:

  • they are not considered abandoning the game and disconnecting will not incur in any penalty
  • they are considered abandoning the game, but disconnecting will not incur in any penalty
  • they are considered abandoning the game and disconnecting will incur in a penalty.

Other ways to disconnect from a game, such as using the disconnect command from the developer console or accepting an invite to play over Steam, will not warn the player in any way but will still evaluate if the player is actually abandoning or not.

Players that do not intentionally leave a game, due to internet connection loss or game crash, will have their spot on the server reserved for three minutes and will be asked to rejoin the game; after that period, if the player does not resume the match they are considered as they had intentionally left the game.

Players that are kicked for inactivity are considered as intentionally quitting.

Players that are vote-kicked by other players are not considered to have intentionally quit and will not incur in any penalty.
