The Cryptocurrency Update introduced [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin Bitcoin] and TF2Coin to the game, causing the Second Crate Depression due to the trading architecture being completely different. Gabe Newell commented on the update saying "Uhh, who let this get in the game, we actually ban crypto games off Steam." The update was widely loved by at least 5 members of the community. You could link cyrpto accounts in the settings and giving them your cyrpto wallet is totally secure™, trust me. You can also mine TF2Coin, however the mining will give your computer the Blue Screen of Death because of the complexity of TF2's code. TF2 coin can be given to another player's wallet and can be converted into real money, which totally doesn't open up money laundering.
