Full moon

It might be possible that by full moon they mean the Halloween maps. They mysteriously grouped all 3 together on the "start playing" screen, and all three maps have a full moon in the sky.

The more I think about it, I think this is what they meant. Any specific confirmation on their intentions? Did they say the new restriction meant real full moons?

It just says "Holiday restriction: Halloween/Full Moon" on the items in question. Guess we'll find out in a few days. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 04:10, 2 November 2011 (PDT)
I believe it was confirmed by a reliable source that it refers to the calendar events. There are also full moons on maps like Pipeline, and that wouldn't make much sense to allow costumes there all the time. — User Ten19 Hexagon.png Ten19 [T|C] 09:33, 2 November 2011 (PDT)
It has been confirmed that the items will be equippable for 2 days around each full moon. Something is being worked on to display this information on the wiki. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 09:36, 2 November 2011 (PDT)

Table format

I don't know if there is a guideline regarding this, but I am wondering if the format for the Halloween / Full Moon restricted items should be changed from a list-like table to a more table-like table? Like the list of Haunted items which aside from about 11 items (7 Haunted + non-restricted) (4 restricted + non-Haunted) is near identical. Given the items are from about 6 separate updates the list takes up like 95% of the page in it's current form. Tasty Salamanders (talk) 07:10, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

I agree, This page needs cleanup. Also mention of minor holiday effects like recent April Fools Day would be nice.--Leaderboard class allclass.png Akolyth (talk) 13:01, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Pictogram plus.png Agree I played during the April Fools Day, never noticed anything. :( Write it up so I can know what I missed and feel even worse. Nutshell or Table in the Lead

I think the lead should have a minimalist list of the holidays where one or more things change in the game (I'm thinking of the anual Rick May memorial)

Is anything activated in-game for April Fools?

I'd make a table with 2 columns, one that says the holiday's name and the other that's the effects applied (I can do this too if you want to). April Fool's makes it so you have a chance to do the Schadenfreude every time you taunt.

I've sandboxed Template:List of holidays. Please, comment.

Minor holidays

I think we should make a section mentioning and explaining minor holidays. As far as I know, these are:

  • Valentines Day (February 14, special MOTD)
  • April Fools (April 1, chance of replacing default taunts with the Schadenfreude + special MOTD)
  • Rick May's Memorial (April 8, the Soldier statue appears in other maps)

A simple paragraph explaining when and how each one works would do it, in my opinion; no need for a subsection for each one. - BrazilianNut (talk) 14:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Minor holidays
On February 14, the message of the day that welcomes players when they connect to a server also wishes they enjoy Valentine's Day.
On April 1st, also known as April Fools' Day (or simply April Fools), players may do the Schadenfreude instead of the default taunts. The message of the day also wishes they enjoy the date.
On April 8, the Soldier statue in Granary appears in most other Valve-made maps in memory of Rick May, the Soldier's original voice actor who died on this day in 2020.

What do you think? - BrazilianNut (talk) 15:39, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

I like it, We should also try to get images of the Messages of the Day for the gallery Mediarch User Mediarch PFP.pngTalkMy Edits 15:43, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Scrollable dates lists

The lists of dates are growing sideway instead of down. While this would only become a problem for the TF birthday list in about 40 years, the Halloween and Smissmas lists already occupy half of the article's width.

I propose we put the lists in single cell tables with a scroll bar.

Example using the Halloween dates:

2009 – 2018
  • October 29, 2009 — November 9, 2009
  • October 27, 2010 — November 8, 2010
  • October 27, 2011 — November 6, 2011
  • October 26, 2012 — November 8, 2012
  • October 29, 2013 — November 11, 2013
  • October 29, 2014 — November 12, 2014
  • October 28, 2015 — November 12, 2015
  • October 21, 2016 — November 16, 2016
  • October 26, 2017 — November 8, 2017
  • October 19, 2018 — November 14, 2018

2019 – 2024
  • October 1, 2019 — November 7, 2019
  • October 1, 2020 — November 7, 2020
  • October 1, 2021 — November 7, 2021
  • October 1, 2022 — November 7, 2022
  • October 1, 2023 — November 7, 2023
  • October 1, 2024 — November 7, 2024

This, of course, would be applied to the templates, not to this article.

I think that it would be better to make the lists expandable instead of scrollable — you could make them both, but that would be overkill. Now, in regards to non-expandable and scrollable vs. non-scrollable, I'm fine with it being scrollable.
