Like other Shotguns, the first shell will fire at least one pellet straight down the crosshair before "bullet spread" takes effect. When random spread is disabled the pellets will land forming a three by three grid pattern.
Should the player taunt with the weapon, the Engineer will perform the Dischord taunt kill.
The Frontier Justice is automatically given to any player who obtains 5 Engineer achievements.

July 8, 2010 Patch (Engineer Update)
- The Frontier Justice was added to the game.
- The amount of revenge crits a player can have at one time is now capped at 35.
September 30, 2010 Patch (Mann-Conomy Update)
- [Undocumented] Now works correctly with critical boosts.
- Fixed a Frontier Justice exploit that let Engineers have infinite crits for their current life/round.
- Updated model with optimizations and new LODs.
- Fixed the revenge crit label not being localized correctly.
Bugs
- Sometimes when the player dies while having Revenge crits, the crit sound will continuously loop until he/she reconnects or the server switches to another map. This can also happen with the Kritzkrieg if the player dies while fully charged.
- After the team that an Engineer wielding this weapon belongs to has captured the Intelligence, after a single shot is fired, both the crit particle effect and the crit bonus will disappear.
- While reloading, it is possible to force the reload animation to loop endlessly by holding both the left and right mouse button after reloading at least one shell. This can be similarly performed with the Shotgun.
Trivia
- The Frontier Justice was first shown in the Mac update trailer, held by the RED Engineer before being officially announced on July 5, 2010.
- The Frontier Justice, along with the Wrangler, the Gunslinger, and the Southern Hospitality, appears to have been designed by Radigan Conagher, the Engineer's grandfather. This is shown via a hidden link in the Engineer Update.
- Frontier Justice is a form of vigilantism, namely punishing those who evaded or were lightly treated by law and order.
