Spamming occurs when people repeatedly fire their weapons in the hope of hitting an enemy player while utilising little or no tactical consideration or skill. (Note- Forcing someone to respawn nearly always serves a tactical purpose.)
Spamming may also refer to the act of doing something repeatedly which may be legitimate, such as repeatedly laying down Sappers on an enemy building, or annoying, such as spamming the channel with repeated chat messages or spamming friendly Medic's with repeated use of the Medic call button, or spamming the Dispenser call command.
Attack spamming was most commonly associated with Soldiers and Demoman, though patches to these classes' ammo capacity has reduced this problem somewhat.
It is not to be confused with:
- Laying down suppressive fire to prevent entry into an area.
- Forcing opponents to take other routes into an area.
- Searching for cloaked Spies.
- Standing next to a Dispenser firing continually to achieve the above.
- Continuously sapping an enemy building in order to destroy it.
