Pyro Robots appear in Mann vs. Machine as enemies. They are mechanical versions of the Pyro. Unlike other robots, they are immune to afterburn, much like the Pyro.

Normal variants
Pyro
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Pyro | Flame Thrower |
— |
These robots are equipped with a Flame Thrower and attack up close. They may use their compression blast to deflect most projectiles (see article for list). However, they will not use compression blast to extinguish teammates on fire, often use compression blast late on fast-moving projectiles such as Crusader's Crossbow's arrows and never intentionally shove away Stickybomb traps or enemies. Pyro Robots that appear with and cluster around Giant Robots eventually scatter when the giant is killed. Some Pyro Robots constantly shoot fire regardless of whether there are enemies nearby; this is typically done to both make a Spy's job more difficult and to light the arrows of Bowmen. However, most Pyro Robots that constantly shoot fire never airblast.
Crit Pyro

---|---|---|---|
Crit Pyro | Flame Thrower |
100% crit chance +100% damage bonus +50% movement speed |

Pyro | Flame Thrower |
Old Guadalajara |
Voodoo-Cursed Pyro Soul |
100% crit chance +100% damage bonus +50% movement speed |
This advanced variation of the single Pyro-bot appears only in Caliginous Caper and Broken Parts. Their speed makes them faster than Scout-bots, so don't let them take the bomb. These Pyros are also very skilled at reflecting projectiles and their damage bonus increases damage of reflected projectiles as well. The variant that appears in Caliginous Caper has the same stats as the variants in Broken Parts, but is named "Pyro" and wears the Old Guadalajara hat.
Flare Pyro
Icon | Name | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Flare Pyro | Flare Gun |
— |
This less common variant wields the Flare Gun, allowing it to attack outside of Flamethrower range, although with some difficulty when a target is up close. Their movement behavior is similar to the normal Pyro.
Flare Pyro (Type 2)
Icon | Name | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Pyro | Detonator |
+60% fire rate bonus +80% faster reload rate |
This very rare variant of Flare Pyro uses an upgraded Detonator. These Pyro-bots have a single Pyro-bot icon and only appear on the 2nd wave of Mean Machines as a Giant Pyro's support.
Pyro Pusher
Icon | Name | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Pyro Pusher | Scorch Shot |
100% crit chance 25% faster firing speed 25% slower reload -65% projectile speed |
Another less common Pyro-bot variant wields a permanent crit-boosted Scorch Shot. Its flares travel slower, allowing players to dodge with ease. They can impose a greater threat because it can knock back an unlucky player and set anyone on fire in a small radius.
Fast Scorch Shot
Icon | Name | Secondary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Fast Scorch Shot | Scorch Shot |
30% faster projectile speed 25% faster firing speed |
This rare variant carries the Scorch Shot like the Pyro Pusher, but its flares travel 3.72 times faster than the Pyro Pusher's ones.
Giant Robots
Giant Pyro
Icon | Name | Primary | Attributes |
---|---|---|---|
Giant Pyro | Flame Thrower |
3000 HP +40% knockback resistance -50% movement speed |
Giant Pyro robots are equipped with a Flame Thrower and behave like their smaller counterparts. Giant Pyros are very skilled at reflecting projectiles, so be careful.
Giant Flare Pyro

Giant Flare Pyro | Detonator |
Old Guadalajara |
3000 HP +40% knockback resistance +70% faster firing speed -50% movement speed |
The Giant Flare Pyro robot wears an Old Guadalajara and is equipped with a Detonator, which can fire accurate shots at a faster rate.
Unused content
- Three unused Giant Pyro Robot templates exist. The first one is named "Giant Airblast Pyro" which wields the Degreaser and wears the Dead Cone. Its Degreaser only does 0.05x damage, but pushes opponents with five times the force. The second is named "Chief Pyro" and is equipped with the default Pyro loadout, but is larger, has 55,000 HP, regenerates 500 health per second and its airblast pushes opponents with two times the force. The third one is a variation of the Giant Flare Pyro but it wields a Scorch Shot that can knock players back with more force, fires 80% faster, moves 65% slower and does not wear the Old Guadalajara.
- Giant Pyros have unused firing sounds for the Flamethrower (named
giant_pyro_flamethrower_start.wav
andgiant_pyro_flamethrower_loop.wav
).- On a related note, there are also unused flame particles within the game files that suggest that the flames from Giant Pyros would appear different from regular Flamethrowers.
- Similar to other giants (except giant Medics), Giant Pyros have unused footstep sounds unique to them (named
giant_pyro_step01-04.wav
). - If a Pyro-bot is given a Dragon's Fury, it's AI does not consider it as a Flamethrower but considers it to be a hitscan weapon. This will cause the Pyro to constantly fire the weapon, even if their target is completely out of range. They also will never airblast with it, because their AI doesnt know the weapon can do so.
