Moving on

That means please focus on the wrench and not tinfoil SPUF theories. Thanks. -- En Ex 13:06, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

A thing about drops+crafting...

I saw this thing about there being a 33%-odd chance of getting the gold wrench by crafting a hat, if so what hats should i craft? backpack. OllyTheMann 15:12, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Not going to craft pyro hats though. OllyTheMann 15:13, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Read the note directly above this. Whoever said that is bullshiting you. Don't craft your hats. -- Smashman... (ts) 15:16, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
33% is low. Believe me. Hundreds of crafting in Mabinogi with a 50%-odd chance of success, and the longest failure streak I had was about 10 times or so. Yet, 33% is considerably too high. 75 wrenches, and how many TF2 players are crafting right now? Good friggin' luck. Vi3trice 15:24, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Wrench 27 has been Destroyed

the first wrench to be destroyed was by the user "gongtk" moments ago, should it be mentioned that the administrator says "failure" and such in the announcement. HyenaDip

It's already on the page! You underestimate the fanaticism of those who edit this Wiki! --Firestorm 18:39, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
oh damn it, sorry about that some folk are just quicker than me huh? HyenaDip
Oh yes, they are. But it's better to post on the talk page than on the main page if you're unsure so you don't mess up (hint HINT, Smashman) --Firestorm 18:48, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Locked? and Gokt real username

is It me or the Page is locked? and gokt real username is [FAG]Grantz, '-' -Danisson 19:48, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Page is locked, I've added the box for it, thanks — WindPower 19:52, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
I locked it. At the time of deletion his name was gonkt. It's staying. -- Smashman... (ts) 19:53, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
We locked it because there were too many people adding speculation and rumors to the page --Firestorm 20:04, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
I think it is time to change the gokt to Grantz since he got his account and GW back? -Danisson 21:40, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Corrections

I've noticed a slight grammatical error, and since the page is locked I cannot correct it. So, I've created this new section for the purpose of allowing us good-willed contributors to point out and indirectly correct any errors or mis-information.--RJackson 20:06, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Grammatical error in Trivia leading, The first Golden Wrench owner to destroy his Wrench: ...a Valve employee has said he look into it...; should be: ...a Valve employee has said he will look into it...--RJackson 20:06, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
My bad. -- Smashman... (ts) 20:15, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
"When the Sniper is turned to gold, his statue will remain upright whereas all the other classes fall over. This once again, shows Team Fortress 2's disproportionate models. " Needs rewording in my opinion. Sounds way too matter-of-fact, when Iʻve seen other classes remain stood up (Engineer, Spy etc). In all honesty, if it was changed to something like "Sniper has more CHANCE" instead, it still seems like it isnʻt needed. Benjamuffin 20:58, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Better? :o — WindPower 21:04, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Yup, and I take back what I said, looking at it how it is now, it fits nicely :). Benjamuffin 21:09, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Golden Wrench and Dead Ringer

If a spy get hit with the Golden Wrench and he has the DR out, he survives and can see a death notice in the upper right corner. Maybe thats something for the Trivia section. Picard 21:14, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

That happens anyway from the perspective of the killer, no matter what weapon. --RJackson 21:31, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Do you mean that the Spy who was "killed" can see the Death notice? The Neotank 21:34, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
I believe he's talking about the SPY seeing the message, he normally doesn't. Confirmed? --Firestorm 21:34, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, the spy sees the death message, too. Thats what I wanted to say.Picard 21:39, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Wrench replacements?

3 Golden Wrenches have been removed, including Drunken f00l's, they've been replaced by 3 (Now 4) other Wrenches. This shifted Wrench numbers for everyone who received a GW after the three removed Wrenches. (Puttin' this here because it's not really relevant to the article.) The Neotank 21:50, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Nah it didn't. They just slotted them in, so the new users got old numbers. What a joke of an idea VALVe. gg --DogGunn 23:22, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Controversy

A lot of claims are being made in this section that has no references or any links to back up what it says Kekeke01 09:44, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

While I canʻt say it all has references, I can vouch for it all being legitimate and true. Itʻs been on the SourceOP forum/site, the steam forums with posts by moderators etc. Itʻs all pretty much solid and old news now. Benjamuffin 09:48, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
I got it from DF himself. Seems like a good enough reference to me. -- Smashman... (ts) 09:50, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Its true there are screen dumps of DF's chat about it a you tube vid from DF if you want links ill provide them just message on my talk page as said before this is not a forum --Markd 10:07, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Spare me the "this is not a forum". I know this is not a forum, no need to repeat it over and over again. My post was wiki related and not of a forum character, all I said was that anyone reading the claims have no way to verify them for themselves, a central part of any wiki. Kekeke01 10:26, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Golden Wrench After Player is Killed

When I tried to take a screenshot of someone holding the Golden Wrench, they happened to get Direct Hit'd and I was left with this picture:

plupward0020.jpg

So I geuss this means that after a player is killed, the wrench becomes a regular wrench, not gold. Tendog 18:51, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Probably the same bug the sticky launcher has, where it switches skins after the player dies (gets the Scottish Resistance texture) -- Nineaxis Duck Gib.png 18:55, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Golden statues upon being killed with the Gunslinger as well, with server mods

I've used the Sourcemod plugin thing to give myself a Gunslinger that can punch people into golden statues. While it is true that most weapons can't turn people into gold even if they have the attribute, the Wrench - in its three incarnations - all function the same with some minor adjustments (say, if the Wrench's attribute is "can build mini sentries" then the model simply changes to the Gunslinger one). Do I need to make a video of this or is this info OK just like that? --NearNihil 22:33, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

If its a server mod, then thats fine. People who join the server, will have to rejoin to have the abilities again. --CWalkthroughs10:47 07 August 2010 (GMT)

Golden Charity event

Added a new section for the Golden Charity event including information about the event itself.

Thanks so much for posting this! I think it's really helping to drive awareness of the event!

Just a note that you may want to mention that 4 additional GW owners have agreed to join the cause:

   * Wrench #14 will be destroyed by [cFc] Yagami Light
   * Wrench #82 will be destroyed by [dahou.se] GinaShark
   * Wrench #22 will be destroyed by Captain Jack (UC)
   * A 4th GW owner who is as of yet unannounced will join once enough donations are made

WiNGSPANTT 05:36, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

The charity event has been removed from the article. We are happy to give you exposure on the main page, but the mention on this page is not directly relevant to the Golden Wrench. You have a website for promoting your cause. -- Pilk (talk) 20:06, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but isn't the fact that the TF2 community has donated over $5000 to charity thanks to this weapon worth at least a mention? Maybe not in the detail it was before, but even just a single sentence? There are far more trivial things on this Wiki than that. TheCarpe 00:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
It would have to be formatted like you've said, a single sentence mentioning the fact for the sake of posterity more than anything else. The way it was written earlier made it come off as an advertisement, which is not what a weapon page is for. I'd personally prefer to wait until after the event has concluded before inserting any information regarding it onto this page. Basically, don't worry, something will get written up. Just have patience, please. -- En Ex (talk) 00:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

New article

I really feel that we should have a separate article for this event, as it's getting larger, and I'd prefer the weapon page to focus on the weapon. -- En Ex (talk) 22:27, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it's fine as it is. There's just the mere fact that there's a lot to know about this weapon. The page for that is here --ANormalUsername 20:42, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

  • I believe En Ex is talking about the golden charity having it's own page, which is a good idea because this page is crowded enough as it is, and we don't want a charitable cause going unmentioned either.--Piemanmoo 22:42, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, still figurin' how that's gonna work. -- En Ex (talk) 00:58, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
So... Who gonna makes the article? -- Vi3trice (talk) 00:59, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
As in, not sure now if we're gonna have one. Still workin' on it. -- En Ex (talk) 01:27, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

New skin?

I was playing around with a custom items_game.txt, for playing with the Golden Wrench. And when equipped, i got that:

gw1.png

It's a new skin? In all ways it's very odd.--SLBros 03:45, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

It's not new per se, they changed the VMT file so that it refers to the normal wrench as the base texture. Fiddle around (change one line) so that it refers to the gold_wrench texture in c_items and you get this:

ctf_2fort0011.jpg

-- Vi3trice (talk) 04:09, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

It is a new skin. They added it after the Engineer Update. Looks horrid. -- Smashman... (ts) 13:04, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

No wonder people are destroying their wrenches for charity!--Nelson340 23:30, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

The Golden Wrench confirmed made of Australium

Quote from the blog regarding the charity event: "Somehow these few have found the strength of will to reject the lure of Australium to serve a greater cause." I guess it can stop being speculated now.

Golden Wrench 11 Destroyed

I was playing some tf2 with my clan, and suddenly, Golden wrench number 10 was destroyed, I didn't have time to take a screenshot, But it did happen. (EDIT: I forgot the number and a friend said it was 11, he just told me it was 10) When in doubt, get a hat. 23:02, 11 August 2010 (UTC) Dat Random Guy 12/08/2010 When in doubt, get a hat. 23:02, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Wrench 10, not 11. -- Vi3trice (talk) 23:03, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Shouldn't this be on the page? It's confirmed, I checked TF2items. Supposedly he was tricked into deleting it, but that is speculation. --Nbduckman 09:56, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Please add this tool i created to see if someone has a golden wrench and who.

What is this, I don't even. -- Smashman... (ts) 01:04, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, but no thanks. -- En Ex (talk) 01:04, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
No thanks. -- Vi3trice (talk) 02:02, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Category

Please add Category:Limited items. Also, does this page still need to be locked? --STUART 19:12, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

When the charity event is completely over, the page will be unlocked. Thank you for adding the new categories, by the way. -- En Ex (talk) 19:24, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Deletion Notices

Hey guys, just wondering. I have 9 of the 12 notices cropped from the Golden Charity event. Does this page want them, for any necessary reason? -- CWalkthroughs

No, but thanks anyway. -- En Ex (talk) 17:10, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, are they PNG? -Shine () 17:20, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but quality wise. Well, not too bad? - CWalkthroughs
Well, if they're higher quality, go ahead and upload one over our current version. -Shine () 17:53, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm currently away from my laptop, which has the images on them, I shall make a .zip and post them here sometime tomorrow. -- CWalkthroughs 20:11(BST) 3rd Sept 2010
Just put one up. Thanks. :) -- En Ex (talk) 20:20, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
I got one up on imageshack, if you want to replace the original. I mean it is his "REAL" username afterall. Sorry if its bad for being Big. -- CWalkthroughs

Charity

How is it any less notable than the controversy section? -Shine () 18:44, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, why wouldn't we note the charity? --Firestorm 18:48, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps we should remove the controversy section, then. -- En Ex (talk) 19:12, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Or better yet move all that stuff to another page. Add a See also: Golden Wrench controversy or something.--Piemanmoo 20:52, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I'd rather see a section on the charity than anything about the controversy. Not much to be said about people not liking limited edition things they didn't get. -- Nineaxis Duck Gib.png 19:55, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
If theres going to be no controversy section, at least mention it in the trivia. I tried to add it, but got reverted. --Stevoisiak 20:31, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

A mention on the trivia section is enough, since it got even on the official blog.--Kid Of The Century 13:00, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Except, now it's been deleted from the trivia section too. There is a Golden Charity page to link to from here. GeneShark 05:23, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

How many are left

There doesn't seem to be a place to see how many wrenches have been destroyed so far. Does anyone know how many have been destroyed? And if so, I think that should be added to the article somewhere. --Stevoisiak 21:42, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

14 Wrenches from Charity Event + 1 from PAX Charity Event + 1 random guy who didn't care about wrench = 16 Golden Wrenches deleted, 84 Golden Wrenches Remain Tendog 01:47, 6 December 2010 (UTC) I remember of a wrench being destroyed a few months ago. I know it was not for the charity since no more wrenches were destroyed on that day. Think 14 for the event and 1 in honor, so that leaves 84. Thespy 02:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Ugliest Weapon

I believe the wrench is the ugliest weapon, anyone with me? Thespy 02:33, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Jealous, much? Tendog 02:06, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

The Wiki is not a forum. do not use it as such. -Shine 02:07, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

The Video isn't a real Golden Wrench....

It's just a skin, the statues don't match up.

Just saying.

Golden Wrench Time Period: 93 hours 44 minutes 53 seconds 5,088,001 Items Crafted ~15 crafts/sec

im trying to find out how much faster this is than normal crafts/sec

btw i figured that it was about a 1 in ~50,000 chance every time you craft that you get golden wrenchTendog 04:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

The Golden Wrench drops weren't a chance every time you craft; rather there was a predetermined time when each Golden Wrench would drop. The first player to craft after that time was issued the Golden Wrench (in addition to the item they crafted). This is how Valve tried to be fair to differing time zones. -- Netshroud Killicon backstab.png (talk | contribs) 05:47, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
haha I already know that I calculated that in. there were 100 unique seconds (actually like 94 because at the start there were like 7 crafted in one second) where if you crafted, you would get a Golden Wrench. so I calculated all that shit and got about 1 in 50,000 overall. Tendog 02:00, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
What Netshroud is trying to say is that your estimate of a 1 in 50,000 chance is meaningless. You're missing the subtle point that the drop times were predetermined. Between the predetermined drop times you had a 0% chance of receiving a Golden Wrench. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 02:11, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I think you are missing my point, it was still 1 in 50,000 chance of getting one. The times were predetermined but it was still random, except for those who found out the times. To be the first person to craft on a random second was 1 in 50,000 during the golden wrench event. simple as that Tendog 19:31, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Wrench Log gone

At the moment, trying to open the Wrench Log results in a 404 error. Maybe worth adding to the article? --IndianPhoneBooth 01:32, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
