WAY too many "references"

Whacking someone with a fish is a classic staple of slapstick comedy that is repeated in all kinds of works. This fish is not a reference to all the 50,000 things you've seen with fish-slapping in it. Someone please remove the unnecessary clutter in the Trivia section. "Invertebrate"?

"Having one's health completely drained by an invertebrate is even more morally depleting" Fish are vertebrates. I'd change this, but then the sentence would not carry the same connotation. --Highlighter 03:17, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Whoops, biology fail on my part. Replacing with "ectotherm" (cold-blooded). Toomai Glittershine 03:20, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

So...

What does it actually DO, anyway? -- MistahFixIt 01:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Counts the amount of times you slap people with it. That is all. Balthazar 01:28, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Lvl

It is a Level 42 Fish, but I can't edit so I'm going to leave it up to the moderators. CANPoo 02:15, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Possible 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' reference? -- MistahFixIt 02:30, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Hum..

Yeah, the kill stacking thing has bugged a lot of stuff out side of tf2. It has bugged out mostly mods like HLXCE, and a few other plug ins out there for source mod. Maybe valve will change the way that the damage log is displayed or the events that it shows when the stacking happens.

Kill message

Every time you hit somebody with the Mackerel, a kill-message in the upper right corner is created or updated, confirming the humiliation of the victim being beaten with a fish. So first hit shows "attacker <mackerel icon> x1 victim" second hit shows "attacker <mackerel icon x2> victim" and so on... When the victim is killed the message looks like this: "attacker <mackerel icon> FISH KILL! victim>".El duderino 02:28, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Very fun to use. Anyway, a couple things. In Arena, since each hit displays a kill notification, it counts as a kill. Meaning if you are the first one to do damage it gives you first blood. Rhonlore 01:23, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Interesting. That arena bug sounds like something Valve might be patching up soon. ;-)-RJ 02:39, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Definitely something that needs to be fixed. --Firestorm 03:18, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
One thing I have noticed at the moment is that each hit also counts towards the "A year to remember" achievement with a kill counting as 2 towards your progress. Worm104 13:39, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Not only that, it adds toward kill streaks in HLstatsX; you can easily rack up ultrakills and raise your ranking.Alphard 10:51, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Damage

Is the damage right in that it's higher than the regular bat? I don't think that's right. Lems 00:01, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Taunt

They should totally make this [1] the Holy Mackerel taunt.--Piippo 17:35, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Humiliation

Honestly, i think the Fish feels more humiliated about being a killer...--Awesome Weegee 03:53, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Viewmodel Glitch

This will probably be patched out soon, but if you equip the Holy Mackerel and then swap your viewmodels to left-handed mode, the fish becomes heavily glitched, almost imploding.

A screencap in case it gets patched before anyone notices CaptMurasa 20:03, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

This is already expressed as trivia in this article. If and when they do patch it, feel free to move this point underneath a 'Previous Changes' section on the page. Add the picture as well if you want, it will serve as a good indicator to those who cannot imagine an inside out fish.--Focusknock 20:19, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
It's because of the jigglebones. as a tip, DONT DO THAT D: --Ikimono1 23:26, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
I added the image as a link in the Trivia section, as I think a lot of people will be looking for one upon reading about it. I know I did... Will-T 06:03, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Smaller area spread?

"This weapon has a smaller area spread than the default Bat, therefore enabling it to deal more damage. "

Where is the evidence for this claim? As far as I know both the bat and fish are identical aside from the fish counting each time you hit someone with it Steviestar3 17:30, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

To my mind it makes sense that the fish and bat are identical, but this fact seems to be a little bit too specific to have just been written on a whim. Perhaps it warrants some testing? I wouldn't know how to go about it, but I'm sure someone here does. (Also, new topics of discussion should be at the bottom of the page.) -- User Alex2539 Sig.png -- 17:35, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
