Chance of bread appearing?

I think now that this can happen, maybe it can be logged how often it happens. Or maybe there's an actual percentage given in the code files. DC64 (talk) 17:18, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

The big question is about the bread randomly appearing. There must be some clue of what's going on in the future. Redconer «C | T» 18:21, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

Mann V. Bread? Bmkw97 (talk) 18:23, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

Wait wait wait, hold on. Each bread represents a class by the type of bread. So that means something is going on. Redconer «C | T» 18:29, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

I was thinking maybe each class gets a Sandvich-like item that is the bread? TheGamerXym (talk) 20:21, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

Was thinking the same, but they might have some class-specific effects, like the drinks for scout. ColonelThunder

At some point, bread began having an apparent 100% appearance rate. Perhaps the appearance rate was coded to escalate as the update approaches? Leadfoot9 (talk) 11:10, 18 June 2014 (PDT)

We were playing with a teleporter in MVM today, and yes, bread now appears every time someone teleports. And the types of bread that appear are random now, and not class-specific. The preceding unsigned comment was added by EMD SD90ACe (talk) • (contribs)

Weapon, not prop?

The files for the breads are located in the /models/weapons category, wouldnt that make it a weapon/item and not a prop? Because why go through all the trouble to make its own special bread directory if it's just a prop for teleporters? TheGamerXym (talk) 20:20, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

Valve would likely make a bread directory for it anyway to keep all the files together, regardless of what type of model it is. Either way, I've changed it to more generic wording until we know what it is for definite. --Omolong (talk) 20:29, 11 June 2014 (PDT)

One per Customer?

Isn't it incredibly obvious that theres one per class? Some more obvious than others and who would have what is speculative, but IE the burnt belongs to the Pyro, and the Rations the Soldier. Is that worth noting? --Drake3011 (talk) 01:36, 12 June 2014 (PDT)

Unless its backed up with SOLID evidence it is STILL Speculation. And we've had a discussion about this already. There is nothing that points to a bread PER class. Not notable. Ashes (talk) 01:42, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
: Baguette = spy, toast = pyro, cinnamon = scout, cornbread = engie, crumpet = demo, pretzel = medic, ration = soldier, blackbread = heavy. the only iffy one is the plain loaf; i guess it's sniper, but it really feels like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_bread would've fit better

Saying there's as many loaves of bread as there are TF2 classes is NOT speculation?

Like, seriously, saying it might be linked to the classes is a speculation, and guessing which bread-which class is speculation, but noting that number of classes=number of bread is a simple observation.Minimuslim (talk) 07:58, 12 June 2014 (PDT)

"This may imply..." is definitely speculation, and the "there are 9 types of bread and there are 9 classes" definitely breaks the trivia style guide. 9=9 is not something that goes in a trivia page --User atf412 FoxIcon.png atf412 (talk) 08:07, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
Link to the trivia style guide --User atf412 FoxIcon.png atf412 (talk) 08:10, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
The way Steppe Eagle wrote it was speculation. But to state, "The cultures represented by the 9 breads correspond to the cultures represented by the 9 classes." would be to state fact, however, that would also be obvious and observational, violating other Trivia styles. Mikado282 (talk) 11:32, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
If you guys want to know, this is what I've come up with if each bread represents a class. (See http://steamcommunity.com/app/440/discussions/0/540744299849208754/ )
What class bread represets
Scout: Cinnamon Bread (American, Boston related)
Soldier: Slice of Bread Ration (Army)
Pyro: Burnt Slice of Bread (Burnt)
Demoman: Crumpet (Scottish)
Heavy: Russian Black Bread (Russian, the name)
Engineer: Cornbread? (American, The South)
Medic: Pretzel (German)
Sniper: Normal Bread? (Australian)
Spy: Baguette (French)
DC64 (talk) 20:19, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
Don't take this as criticism, DC64, but an issue is those of us familiar with wheat (and wheat/corn) breads already know it, once all the images are provided.
Here's the thing, What is pointing to the fact that each bread is representing a class? There is no proof showing that the bread points to this. Ashes (talk) 20:23, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
What is pointing? Most of the selected breads reference a culture and those cultures correspond the cultures represented by the classes. However, it is not fitting for Trivia, because it is observational to state the relationships and we can only speculate about what it means. At this point, it is only a tease, expressly designed to generate observation and speculation. If the bread did not appear to reference the classes, it would not be as effective at that job as it is. Now, more eyes are on the game anticipating an update. After all, Summer sale is getting close. So, write no more of it on the page, and see what becomes of the bread. (IMO, it would be interesting to test if the observed bread references follow the class that teleported, i.e., if the Russian bread only spawns after a Heavy teleports.) Mikado282 (talk) 20:57, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
(Yeah, obvious now, no correlation between class and the bread that follows. Sorry.) Mikado282 (talk) 23:56, 13 June 2014 (PDT)
Not to mention that there has to be a reason for Valve to add those breads too, They could have just went with any random bread but yet they have breads that have a cultural relation to each of the nine classes. iAmaNoob (talk) 12:14, 13 June 2013 (EST)
As stated above, all we can do is speculate, and since the wiki is not the place for speculative things. We should just any "relation" out until further updates by valve. As there is so little info to get any solid evidence. So just wait for Valve. Ashes (talk) 21:18, 12 June 2014 (PDT)
Also, it is my belief that Sniper has the crumpet and the Demo has plain bread, seeing as how Australia was a British colony, and Scotland is know for its Plain Bread.TheGamerXym (talk) 12:47, 13 June 2014 (PDT)

Results of my testing

Hi guys! After I read your opinions on when and which breads appears, I made a little testing. On an itemtest map, I setted up 2 teleporters (one exit and one entrence) and went trough them 100 times, the result is: From 100 times 3 breads appear from them twice the same, the loaf of plain bread and once the baguette. So in my opinion the breads aren't class specific and their spawning chances is 3%. What do you think guys? Kori1997 (talk) 23:54, 12 June 2014 (PDT)

Rate of spawn is difficult to grab. 100 times isn't a great number to start with. Although good effort, I think its best we just leave it out until further updates. Ashes (talk) 00:07, 13 June 2014 (PDT)
I ran 1000 teleports, counted 33 spawns. (I haven't calculated confidence intervals in 30 years and I wasn't all that good at it then.) As I counted, I became more interested in the models and animations. This spawning may go away soon, so I watch them now. The toast is burnt only on one side, so don't mistake the unburnt side for a 10th (Civilian) bread and post about it here. I won't bother with the details, they don't belong here, but the breads are "random"; saw many of some, few of others -- not one plain loaf in 1000 on my teleporter, but two in a row on another engineer's. Note, I might have missed tallying at most two bread spawns. Mind you, I'm a Celiac, and low-carb to boot, so .... Mikado282 (talk) 23:51, 13 June 2014 (PDT)

Possible Speculation of Cameo's in The TF blog posts/updates

So i began to notice that on the Rottenburg update page, the bread shown is the pretzel, and in the adult swim update page, above the scout, i can easily make out the baguettes. I'm starting to think that all 9 of these breads have had some kind of cameo in various updates/blogposts by now. so far, i don't see a signifigance though. keep looking i guess. Siesan (talk) 02:14, 13 June 2014 (PDT)

This sort of speculation does not belong on the wiki sadly. I would suggest the steam forums for this type of stuff. Ashes (talk) 02:25, 13 June 2014 (PDT)
Yes i know, but what I'm speculating is that there are likely more cameos to find and include in the trivia section of this article, which already features 2. Siesan (talk) 02:28, 13 June 2014 (PDT)

Just wondering, (sorry, speculation again) are those breads supposed to be made in Lecture Valley?ColonelThunder

That we don't know as its unclear. If you want to discuss this, try the steam forums. Ashes (talk) 13:05, 17 June 2014 (PDT)

More than 9

After watching this video I has come to my attention that there may be more to this whole bread thing than we know, such as a 10th bread and bread-themed weapons. TheGamerXym (talk) 12:43, 13 June 2014 (PDT)

Once again, if you're going to speculate, do it on the forums not here please. Thanks. Ashes (talk) 12:49, 13 June 2014 (PDT)
I wouldnt exactly say that this is speculation, seeing as how the files were implemented in SFM by Valve.
Guys, guys. Let's wait the next update, so we don't need to jump to conclusions and speculations. Kori1997 (talk) 12:53, 13 June 2014 (PDT)
Right, for all we know, this whole thing could be a Bread Herring, after all it "Smells like fish". (Ha-ha, only serious, why we shouldn't speculate.) - Don't get uptight. Just enjoy the show. Mikado282 (talk) 13:43, 14 June 2014 (PDT)

Short Circuit + Bread - Does it cost metal?

It's on the title the question, but, just to explain, that the trivia tells it can be destroyed, but it doesn't tell if it costs metal to destroy the bread. User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.pngUser Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 21:13, 15 June 2014 (PDT)

I finished testing this, and it does cost 5 + 15 Metal as usual to destroy the bread. Pakaku (talk) 01:38, 17 June 2014 (PDT)
Thanks. Now, I'm not sure this should be added or not. Any guess? User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.pngUser Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 08:12, 17 June 2014 (PDT)
I think clearing up the ammo question would be harmless. "All bread props can be destroyed with the Short Circuit, and cost 15 Metal to do so, similar to projectiles." Pakaku (talk) 18:20, 17 June 2014 (PDT)

Expiration Date

*The Bread appeared in the short Expiration Date as mutated sentient loafs, and later as a monstrously large tentacled beast.

I think this information rises above Trivia (it's more than trivia, it is a critical plot element) and could promoted from Trivia and worked into the body; e.g., "The bread spawns preceded the release of the animated short Expiration Date, wherein the bread models appeared. Within the plot of that short, bread is mutated by teleportation, eventually becoming sentient, and later a monstrously large tentacled beast." I would not be surprised if the spawning effect goes away soon. So this could be worked into an update to address that, if that happens. Mikado282 (talk) 05:51, 18 June 2014 (PDT)

Cart Glitch

The page currently states that the point-capping glitch that treats props as the cart works on Badwater Basin if the cover is open. Is there a way to open the cover without the cart dropping in? I couldn't get it to on a cheat server, so could we have some evidence? Also, don't Barnblitz and possibly other maps have the same final terminus setup? Shouldn't the glitch work there as well?

The only map I could find that the cover opens before the cart drops is the custom map Swiftwater (UGC). And that map has a different trigger setup, apparently, and the bread does nothing.
