Show preview
Please make use of the Show preview button. It gives you a preview of the edit you are making, allowing you to perfect your changes before you save the page. You can edit the whole article by clicking the edit button at the top of the page, which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively. Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 21:31, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
- You should see how much I am using that button on my sandbox subpages and contributions. Is there a problem? Ah, German/Germany, missed the typo, thanks. I usually try to remember to read my posts backwards to catch errors. Mikado282 (talk) 21:47, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
"You can edit the whole article ... which is preferable to editing multiple sections consecutively"
- Well, I like to use the Show preview button a lot; so, writing just a section at a time saves a lot on the context switch. This is why I make so much use of the subpages in the Sandbox -- I can make multiple section changes without polluting the history of a public page. I've been known to copy paragraphs I am editing to my Sandbox and work on it there, especially if I don't think I can get it done in one quick sitting (some edits I make and then let simmer for days or weeks) ... or think I will think of one more thing to add right after I save ... Mikado282 (talk) 22:59, 12 March 2014 (PDT)
- I just read Ashes' use of the Show preview template on User talk:DrPyspy. His additional comments made things a little clearer. I think the rank novice might not be familiar enough with wiki terminology and architecture to easily understand the point. I know I misunderstood User_talk:Darkid here. I think it takes a while for starters to realize that everything ends up on the Recent changes scroll, even Sandbox edits. Mikado282 (talk) 21:43, 28 June 2014 (PDT)

WAR! trivia
I may not be Piemanmoo but I can explain why in general what you wrote was not trivia
- The fountain statue represents the Norse god Template:W (Old One-Eye), holding his spear Template:W, bearing his two ravens Template:W ("Thought" and "Memory") on his shoulders, and sporting both an All-Father beard and an anachronistically horned rather than winged helmet. See also close-ups on Page 14.
Mere observation. Anyone can see this is a statue with these features it's not hidden or something that was not meant to be seen. The statue is plainly in your face and all you did was describe it.
- Odin's quest for wisdom is never-ending, and he is willing to pay any price -- he sacrificed his eye for a drink from Mímir's well. As soon revealed in Bombinomicon (comic), Demoman desired bomb-making "wisdom" and it cost him an eye.
From what i see (after re-reading the bombinomicon comic quickly) Travish (Demoman) he did not actually want to read the book, he did not know of any price, he was a curious young boy at the time who got tricked and as an end result lost an eye. At the same time however i can see where you are trying to go with this but have seen trivia with stronger relations than this get tossed out because it wasn't note worthy.
- Compare Demoman's reputation for heavy drinking to that of Odin, who ate no food, consuming only mead and wine.
Mere comparison. All you are doing is stating that the demoman drinks, that can be used to relate any problem drinking character. Sure they may do the same thing but this is just mere coincidence.
- Compare Soldier's squalor and paranoia to Demoman's wealth and refinement, as depicted in this and later comics.
Um what? i kept trying to read this to get what you were going on about here. Either i just cannot comprehend what you're trying to say here or you didn't proof read this piece of trivia. Regardless, the word "Compare" just tipped it off as mere comparison.
If you wish to dispute the trivia further please read up on the Trivia Guidelines and then make a new topic on the WAR comic discussion page if you still think your trivia should be on the page.
Thank you for understanding - Lexar - talk 00:16, 18 April 2014 (PDT)
- While I would very much like to respond to your time and effort here, and I thank you for volunteering your advice; but the fist step, according to the Trivia Guidelines is to give Piemanmoo the opportunity to comment on his page.
"If the person did not leave a reason or if you do not agree with their reason, consider asking them for an explanation or elaboration on their Talk page."
- As you are posibly aware; I have set my case out there. To discuss it here or at the WAR comic discussion page while the conversation is pending with Piemanmoo would not follow etiquette or follow the Guide. No, I have not discussed the last point (Solder/Demoman), there, but there will be time for that after resolution with Piemanmoo. Thank you for you offer of help, and I agree there may be some throw away. I hope to continue communicating with you on this at Piemanmoo's or at the War! page. Mikado282 (talk) 06:06, 18 April 2014 (PDT)
- Say, Lexar, thank you again for your comments. I did discuss this with Piemanmoo. I do still have some questions. While I enjoy the conversation, and it would be within protocol, I do not think it would be seemly to open this up on the WAR! comic discussion. It is only Trivia and the last thing I want is any chance of any impression of a pissing match. However, if you would like to talk with me here that would be fine. Please, consider me compulsively chatty rather than argumentative.
- In the Odin statue reference, my perspective was that I didn't think most younger gamers would recognize Odin. I camped with neo-pagans for twenty years and it still took me two years to bother to look closely at the actually rather strange statue. Maybe I'm am mistaken and in the 90's all the school children learned about Huginn and Muninn and all gamers read The Mighty Thor. Now, help me avoid the "Mere observation" pitfall in the future -- isn't Trivia like the first two points for the article also "Mere observation"? Anyone can see that some of these screens are references to "Meet the Spy". To me, that is obvious. The references are there and plainly in your face? So, is it also obvious and not noteworthy that several of the other screens are views from known camera locations on 2Fort or that three are views from the default spectator spawn point? Would not the camera views constitute an Easter egg hunt?
- The rest of the points are throwaway and I agree weak, but I would still like to see just the Oden reference mentioned.
- On my last point, I don't want you confused. I try to be terse in Trivia points. And maybe the point is both obvious and not noteworthy. And on reflection, maybe the point is more appropriate for a character profile than a Trivia section. What I wanted to write about was the contrasting personality traits of Demoman and Soldier, as portrayed in the comics. Soldier is crude where Demoman is refined. Solder eats delivery - Demoman makes proper tea for his mother. Soldier lives in cheap apartments, on the street, or as a unimaginably slovenly roommate - Demoman lives in a mansion. Solder is brash - Demoman is reserved. Soldier is insane - Demoman is rational. Soldier is threatening - Demoman is polite. I find the contrast interesting, but as I said above, such comparison is more appropriate for a profile or even a synopsis rather than a Trivia section.
- OK. Travish initially had no interest in the book - he was absolutely not curious (almost to the chagrin of Merasmus) until he was told it was about bombs, then he had to peek. Travish was not tricked, he was tempted - Bombinomicon did not lie. Travish acknowledged there was a risk - he only peeked with one eye. But over thinking ... Welcome template
I saw you welcomed a user recently and don't know about the template that's usually used. The template that is used is {{subst:welcome}}. Just thought I'd let you know that - Davo (Talk|Contribs) 03:24, 8 May 2014 (PDT)
- Thx. I knew or more correctly guessed that there was such a thing. Time was very short last night. And yes, I bet on a nice person doing what you did. What/Where are the instructions for use? Just paste in that subst template? Where? In the topic field? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikado282 (talk) • (contribs)
- Here go bud: Template:Welcome, if you wish to add another language, put a /"language-code". (Ex: {{subst:welcome/de}}) [Please preview it before doing it, because not all languages have been translated. Also, never forget the ~~~~ :). I just don't know if you can greet people with the language that they've been editing even though you don't speak it (I forgot to confirm that on the IRC Channel). Gabrielwoj (talk) 18:38, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Hey, thanks! :) Yeah, I would think the rule of thumb would be to not talk to strangers in their language unless you know you speak their language better than they speak yours (I guess one doesn't have to speak the welcome script). That rule is tough for talking with Germans or Brits -- their language or dialect is so fun. :)
- I've welcomed once a person with the "de" language, after that, I wanted to ask about this on IRC, but I ended up forgetting. A person which edited "es" stuff those days I've greet him in English anyways. Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:11, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- boop boop, chiming in Yes, indeed - please only use the lang welcome templates if you speak the language in question. As for what language versions are available: /de, /es, /fi, /it, /ja, /nl, /pl, /ru. (contribs ▪ talk) 19:26, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Thanks for the note and sorry for my mistake, do you want I go back and edit his usertalk to the {{subst:welcome}} instead? Also, I plan to translate to pt-br as well. Someday... Gabrielwoj (talk) 19:30, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Nah, don't bother. Not a big deal anymore, just keep it in mind in the future. (contribs ▪ talk) 19:48, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Gotcha. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:13, 25 May 2014 (PDT)

- OK, before I mess it up. Usage: "Add Topic" then paste in {{subst:welcome}} in the wikitext window? Then do I still need to type ~~~~? Mikado282 (talk) 20:21, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Yea, go to his UserTalk, got to edit or add topic, and put this. Preview it before you save. I always do that, even that I copy and paste the subst:welcome. Don't put the info on his UserPage. Gabrielwoj (talk) 20:46, 25 May 2014 (PDT)
- Ya, itz verking! Danke! Mikado282 (talk) 18:45, 29 May 2014 (PDT)
- That was weird. So, {{subst:welcome}} also senses the user's language settings. That sort of answers Gabrielwoj's question, do I user the user's language? The template makes that decision for you? (forgot to check preview :( ) Mikado282 (talk) 06:55, 31 May 2014 (PDT)
- You can add the language {{subst:welcome/de}}, however, you should only greet him in his language if you have knowledge of it. If you don't know his language, greet him with {{subst:welcome}} instead. Gabrielwoj (talk) 07:09, 31 May 2014 (PDT)
- I went back and saw I had made a stupid cut and paste error; {{subst:welcome/de}} instead of {{subst:welcome}}

I say, "PNG"; you say, "png".
For some reason, some of my png file extensions were upper case and I missed them when I uploaded them today.
- How big of a deal is it?
- If they have to change what is the best way forward?
Mikado282 (talk) 18:32, 8 June 2014 (PDT)
thanks for the help
Just giving the memo thanking your contribution. I Personally don't think it needs to be removed but that doesn't mean I haven't considered your thought about the Medic and Scout mvm.
The Mighty Anus (talk) 06:43, 23 September 2014 (PDT)
- Yeah, I got lost in the normal mess of the community strategy articles. Sorry I moved it. If I find typos or grammar issues in your edits, would you prefer that I mention them in your talk page or that I just make the simple edits? (note: mis-capitalization of it in "... more damage, It can ...".) I would also suggest that the MvM edits you made today should only have single bullets.
- I find it interesting that User:WindBOT forces the [[Knockback|knockback]] to [knockback]]; but the change the BOT made is correct; the wiki automatically capitalizes the first character as needed, so I learn that the format I entered was not necessary to prevent redirect. Mikado282 (talk) 19:00, 23 September 2014 (PDT)
Oh please you shouldn't really need permission to do minor edits but having said that, if were to redo everything then yeah I would like it to be mentioned. Feel free to ruin everything jk. It's not like you were doing for the shits and giggles. The Mighty Anus (talk) 14:01, 24 September 2014 (PDT)

- I would like a little help learning (1) how to set images as backgrounds for either my user page or div styles on my page and (2) link-in images from steam summer and winter events to my user page, without uploading them, if that would not be a bad idea. Back on board, huh?
Welcome back after such a long hiatus! We definitely need some more correcting hands like yours here, since a lot of the recent English edits are by no means of the best langaugelanguage quality. — shots fired by: Nikno {Talk | Contribs} 09:32, 6 April 2017 (PDT)

About your questions
On the tank page that your recently edited you asked some questions on it so I am here to answer them
1) The tank is fully bot controled from the moment it is spawned in and you have no control of it once you choose it's spawn point
2) You cannot spawn in payload carts into other game modes without plug-ins so I have no idea of their behavior
Hope that is enough infomation for youPadacuw (talk) 18:13, 20 June 2017 (PDT)
