RE: Valve Weapons

Actually, the main reason I made the page was I wanted to post a couple of youtube videos of Robin messing around with the Valve Rocket Launcher on public servers with ordinary players. It's rather amusing and real treat to watch for ordinary players who haven't seen it in action.

Where would be an appropriate page to post these? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Object404 (talk) • (contribs)

No, it wouldn't be. The wiki is a place for notable information, not showing off weapons. The problem is that it's so easy for someone that runs a server to attach a quality and attributes to the Rocket Launcher that make it identical to Robin's. If people want to see what Robin's Rocket Launcher looks like in game they can easily do a search on youtube, it doesn't have a place on this wiki. Interesting. Was that how the server admin Drunken F00l replicated Robin's Valve Rocket Launcher, or was he given one?
Well, anyway, it's not so much individual weapons but more of sightings of major valve/TF2 game designer celebrities showing up in public servers. Seeing these kinds of things are the equivalent of loch ness monster sightings, generate discussion and are notable since they're very rare. -Object404 17:03, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that is how he did it. Robin showing up on a server is not a major event, sorry. I just played on the same server as him about a week ago without even realizing it. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 17:07, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Nazi/Medic Valve Statement

What dictates when a citation needed sentence can be removed? Do they remain indefinitely unless someone manages to find a source to reference (in which case, beginning a sentence with "Valve stated..." would guaranteed a certain level of immunity)? The only reason I ask is that I spent several hours online watching and reading interviews which lead to a dead link and no official info on it (just forum posts perpetuating second hand information). Just wanted to ask before spending any more time on other citation stuff. Thanks. Malthenius 09:33, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

No they don't remain indefinitely, but it will remain until it's discussed on the talk page. If a sentence has the citation template it means that it was not outright disproved but still needs to be confirmed. Ok, thanks. Malthenius 09:33, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
I took a look at the Medic article revision history and came across the following:
04:53, 12 November 2010 FlotsamX (7,601 bytes) (Removed trivia against guidelines; I doubt many assume that he was a Nazi in the first place)
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Medic&oldid=183890
Later on that same day it's re-introduced, same as before as a new "trvia tidbit":
22:45, 12 November 2010 FlotsamX (7,723 bytes) (Cleaned up the Medic article a bit, removed fluff, added a trivia tidbit) http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Medic&oldid=186217
I'm fine with leaving it as a citation needed issue despite my research, I just wanted to clarify what seems to be something of a contradiction. Also, I liked your signature idea so I copied it :D. --Malthenius Backpack Sandvich.png 13:30, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately we don't always agree on what should stay and what shouldn't, but in this case if it was added again and is still there it means people agreed that it should be there. This is why I encouraged discussion before removing it. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 14:20, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Whatever agreement took place, there is no documentation of any discussion of it. I'll drop the subject for good now though. --Malthenius Backpack Sandvich.png 19:41, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the do come from the GCF. -- Pilk (talk) 17:22, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Thought so, the aliasing is horrible. Too bad Valve can't keep up with their own updates or we could use the ones provided by the API. Lagg 23:34, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Pyro item set

I knew the slot were already specified in the table, I put them there just for recap. And also they were sorted... at least may you restore that?--Kid Of The Century 23:48, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Done. Lagg 00:05, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I've also removed those info from all other pages.--Kid Of The Century 08:50, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Page Example Videos

I have seen so many pages on this wiki showing people crafting stuff, opening crates, etc., usually rare stuff. My video shows the same thing on the Saxton Hale Mask Page, and it keeps getting undone. And I find them particularly useful and a neat idea to this site. ---[PM] ΡÖIЙ† βLΛЙҚ

The problem with videos like yours is that if we allowed one to stay all videos showing an item being crafted would have to stay as well. Nothing unique happens when crafting the Saxton Hale mask so a video is not needed. If you have seen similar videos on other pages it means we have missed them and would appreciate your help in cleaning them up. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 23:37, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Removing full 1st person images!

In response: I was a bit worried about that. Then I checked some pages and realized my error. Sorry, hun! I'll go around and clean up the already deleted images linked to pages before going on. --Vaught 07:19, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

This is the traditional paisley-patterned bandana. The Heavy Duty Rag is identical save for the middle pattern being replaced by TF2 logos. --Larkke 00:06, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Paisley bandannas don't heave a gap on them, the patterns are dense across the entire thing. It might have been influenced by one but for now your trivia is merely an observation. It isn't very useful or interesting either, because most people will immediately recognize that it looks very much like the traditional bandanna. Thanks for the reply and clarification. I use show preview before editing, but I had forgotten to add signature. --Larkke 01:07, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Lugermorph

Seriously, please explain to me why two simple sentences explaining the basic gameplay values of an item aren't needed simply because we can go "oh why bother? Its somewhere else!". Why should the reader have to go to another page to find out how this item functions? Its basic computer philosophy mate, a user should be able to get the information on what they want as quickly and in as few moves as possible. If a user wants to know exactly a Lugermorph functions and how to use it we shouldn't be telling them to stop reading the Lugermorph one, read the pistol one and then come back. A brief summary of the gameplay measures is therefore quite reasonable on that article. Simply strutting in and going "Don't add this again!" isn't exactly helpful. -- Sabre 11:07, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

I believe you answered your own question. Redundant information isn't needed. This is a wiki, the essence of which isn't to be a site designed for casual visitors. It is a place for people to be involved in a constant process of collaboration and documentation of things that change frequently. I apologize if you got the wrong idea from other weapon pages (I just noticed someone has been doing the same thing to the other alternate texture/model pages as well) but it was decided that we will not be pasting summaries or statistics from their respective normal variant pages. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 11:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Minor niggling, but it wasn't copy-and-pasted, I wrote the summaries on the Big Kill and Lugermorph pages to try to convey the gameplay information with deliberately different and more brief wording to avoid any notion of simply copy-and-pasting. But whatever. May I ask where this was decided? I would just like to read the discussion for myself. -- Sabre 11:39, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
If the relevant discussion isn't on any of the weapon talk pages you can find it in the IRC logs. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 12:31, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
