— The Engineer on destroying enemy ammunition
|
” |
The EMP Grenade is a scrapped grenade weapon that would have been used by the Engineer. It was supposed to act like its Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic counterpart, taking away all of the ammo of an enemy within the grenade's blast range. The EMP Grenade was cut from the game due to Valve's final decision to leave grenades out of Team Fortress 2 entirely.
The EMP Grenade was later repurposed for the Zombie Engineer's ability in the Zombie Infection gamemode added in the Scream Fortress 2023 update, but with a different function. Zombie Engineers can toss an EMP Grenade by pressing the secondary fire key. If the grenade successfully catches any enemy building in its 500 hammer units blast radius, the buildings will become temporarily disabled for 6.5 seconds and deal 110 damage to them, which can instantly destroy Mini-Sentry Guns. Furthermore, enemy Engineers cannot repair damaged buildings until the disabled effect ends. After using the grenade, there is a cooldown of 10 seconds before the player can throw another one.
