Loadout Slot
It's a PDA for the Engineer, then? How does the user equip the item? Does it goes into the Misc Slot? --SLBros 17:34, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- Based on prior experience, it probably alters the appearance of it when equipped in the misc slot. Noizeblaze 17:37, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
Hope it gets styles for amber blue and white screen.Amp32 17:36, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- The item is loaded in the Misc slot according to the Mann Co. Catalog in game. Jh9594 17:38, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
HUD
Can someone post a screenie of the altered PDA HUD? SkillerBehindYou 17:56, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- We dont have that information yet. All we know is its a misc promo for the engineer. Dr. Blutengott 19:39, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
Engineer "Vault Boy" Trivia
"The character in the Pip-Boy screen is known in the Fallout Universe as "Vault-Boy", which he is used in a visual representation of Skills and Perks, and this case, the Engineer." Should I add that into the Trivia? --Shattered Heart Lynx 19:01, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- Rewrite it, that sentence gives me a headache. coreycubed / talk 19:03, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- Sorry for that, I rushed the whole sentence :P English is not my native language. How about "The engineer drawing who appears in the Pip-Boy Screen is known as "Vault Boy" in the Fallout Universe. The Vault Boy is used to provide an iconic representation of the perks and stats available to the player character, Vault Boy is also the Mascot of Fallout Series and the Vault-Tec Corporation." --Shattered Heart Lynx 19:09, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
I added a gallery with an image of Vault-Boy and a bit of info about him. I think it should be enough, but what do you think? --SilverHammer 19:15, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- Awesome, but a little info about his role in Fallout should be added as well. --Shattered Heart Lynx 19:18, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
I don't think building upon it any more is necessary. --SilverHammer 19:47, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
Droppable?
I went to a trade server and saw someone with one of these and some others with the skyrim helmets and the new rocket launchers. Were the items maybe put into the drop system? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by SteamingKettleOfIgnorance (talk) • (contribs) 23:40, 3 August 2011
- Server mod possibly? 20:42, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
- That was an oversite that was fixed, they shouldnt drop anymore. Also please sign when you post on a talk page. Dr. Blutengott 20:43, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
Quote
I trimmed the quote down because part of it's something in Dead Money more then the pip-boy itself. Cheesepopcorn(stuff) 02:53, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- If I recall, this is the TEAM FORTRESS 2 wikipedia, not meaning that to be completely insulting, and as such the quote is not supposed to be from Fallout: New Vegas. As seen in other hat quotes, it should be a quote/link to a phrase from the engineer... or something fitting from another class if it seems right. We should look into a TF2 quote to replace it ASAP.Jack O'Mally 20:30, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- A number of promo articles contain quotations from the characters from their respective games. Some don't even use quotes, they use descriptions that define the item well. Foster's Facade, Stockbroker's Scarf, Ellis' Cap, Brain Bucket, Dead Cone, Enthusiast's Timepiece, License to Maim, Iron Curtain, Dangeresque, Too?, Lugermorph, Companion Cube Pin, Resurrection Associate Pin, Max's Severed Head, Big Kill and Earbuds, specifically. Some of those are "quotes" from a class which the class never actually says. Some are from the blog! The part you lobbed out wasn't "about" Dead Money. It's an accurate description of the Pip-Boy, even how it's used in our TF2. Engineer gets a new Build HUD with this item equipped. "It may have helped you find the Sierra Madre broadcast, but it's just as much a crutch today as it was in the Old World." easily parallels "It may have helped you build more gun, but it's just as much a crutch today as it was in the Old World." As the completely fair and impartial contributor of this quote, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to Disagree with changing it. --SilverHammer 21:38, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
Got it? What for?
As excited as I was to actually get this item, I was extremely supprised when while screwing around on itemtest I got a Genuine Pip Boy. Not tradeable. --PYC128 10:21, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
I think it's because of the Quakecon Steam Sale thing. I guess you will be able to buy Fallout New Vegas and get the Pip Boy. I got the Pip Boy, too. I only have Fallout New Vegas(No DLC). --Antichrist
- You own New Vegas, you got a Pip Boy. It becomes tradable on the 7th. Thenyproject 10:40, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
Now the PDA change won't happen. Should that be listed as a bug or am I the only one? --PYC128 14:08, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
BUG/SKIN Pip-Boy missing
this must be added or mentioned that like the charge and targe and GL. or the Turtle neck for spy, the pip boy does not appear within first person view. this should at least be mentioned? Gamecrazy009 16:18, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- Yea, it probably should be, considering the examples of other articles you mentioned. Balladofwindfishes 16:20, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
Genuine and Normal
Does the item come genuine no matter what, or is it only rewarded to players who owned FNV before the sale? If so we should change the genuine text to show this. To be informative, and prevent people from basing their purchase of FNV on getting a 'genuine' pip-boy if otherwise incorrect. Jack O'Mally 20:39, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- It is awarded in genuine to players who owned Fallout: New Vegas before August 8, 2011. Which currently is the only way to receive the item. 20:47, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- But the sale is to get you to buy various things, has anyone recently bought FNV? To put in perspective, do you get it as genuine if you buy the game no matter the time? Or do you get it as genuine for owning FNV before the sale, and get a normal one if you get FNV during said sale.
Jack O'Mally 21:23, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- I had just bought New Vegas today and received a Genuine quality Pip-Boy. I assume that the genuine quality will only be available until the sale ends on the 7th. User:BC 22:15, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
Styles
Sadly, the Pip-Boy doesn't come with the Amber/White/Blue screen, and matching Build/Demolish HUD. Luckily, I did create an Amber and Blue version and uploaded the material and resource files to GameBanana. I tried to make white, but there was an issue with the RGBA value (228 228 228 255, a darker shade of white) not appearing as actual white ingame. The RGBA values were needed in the special "pipboy" "build_menu" and "destroy_menu" RES files. Source Engine + RGBA values for white = Not actually white. I ended up deleting my files for the white version.

Pip Boy Behavior
I like the fact they added a Pip Boy to TF2 but why doesn't the Engie use it like in Fallout New Vegas? You know like actually looking at it instead of pulling out his default remote things?
