I have additional spy-checking strategies.

Strategies and Tips

  • As a pyro or heavy, If a spy using the dead ringer "dies" after a short period and you are near the body, fire everywhere. You might even find the spy!
  • As a demoman, try committing suicide or camping out in a corner. An unlucky spy may be in the corner with you because of the cloak and dagger!
  • As a scout, follow a person you know is a spy and keep calling out "spy.". This is called "convoying." However, don't get sandwiched with 2 spies! Try trailing farther.

Identifying spies

Definitely a spy if...

  • A spy on your team cloaks with the wrong color.
  • You actually see a spy cloaking or disguising. As said above, try to start convoying.
  • A possible spy you're convoying suddenly cloaks. Shoot or fire everywhere if that happens.

Might be a spy if...

  • You see someone that just won't budge from a spot. This might be a spy trying to look for a target. If it is an unscoped sniper, just shoot once. They may still be a spy if not scoped.
  • A person is running around as if confused. It could be a spy trying to get to multiple targets.
  • A sniper is running around. They might be changing spots, but this is the worst class to disguise as because of the fact that snipers usually don't defend or attack a control point or get the intel. So, basic rule: Sniper out of good view of battle, spycheck.

Not a spy if...

  • A teammate taunts.
  • Your convoying proves ineffective.
  • A spy cloaks with your team color.
