Talk pages
You shouldn't be talking on talk pages. Leave that to your master WindPower. -- Pilk (talk) 22:33, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Loops
WindBOT loops over the page again if you have to fix a bad edit. -- Pilk (talk) 03:17, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- What do you mean? You mean it re-applies filters if you undo them? That is the desired behavior. If the filter isn't working correctly, then the filter should be fixed; otherwise, if the filter does work correctly but shouldn't be applied on a certain page for some particular reason, then blacklist the page — Wind 18:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Diacrits change
Hello,
Please add a new filter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_alphabet#Comma-below_.28.C8.99_and_.C8.9B.29_versus_cedilla_.28.C5.9F_and_.C5.A3.29
There are 2 variants of ş. This one is wrong. See on wikipedia page the correct one and please do the changes.
Thanks

Achievements translating
Can you translate achievements using this bot ? If yes i will send you tf_romanian.txt so would be much easier than manual translation. -- Nightbox (t s) 10:41, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- How would it work? Just replace English achievements titles with Romanian ones? I'm pretty sure you could do that with AWB — Wind 14:17, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Rollbacks
You again. Ruining my rollbacks. I should have you decommissioned for your impertinence. – Smashman (talk) 10:20, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Team names in TFC
Your bot seems to think that the TFC team names are "RED", and "BLU", when they, in fact, are "Red" and "Blue". Avanti (Classic) and Dustbowl (Classic) got reverted because of this. Just wanted to make you know. Ond kaja 15:46, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I was fearing this would happen... I'll add a way to specify which filters are applied to Classic/Non-classic pages later, right now I will disable the team spelling filter. — Wind 15:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Peculiar behavior
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Flame_Thrower/ro&redirect=no
I'm a little confused by WindBOT's behavior - it continues to insist on making this page redirect to a page that is not only improperly titled, but also redundantly language-tagged. If the page it was linking to even existed, it would be a double redirect at that. It's kinda humorous when I think about it, really. It would be like if "Hat/fr" (which would ideally redirect to "Hats/fr") was consistently being strongarmed into redirecting to "Chapeaux/fr".
Either way, this could use some work yeah, but at the same time I'm genuinely curious as to what is causing this behavior. (: Gerk 10:29, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Spell Checking
Maybe this isn't the right way to go about this, but WindBot doesn't seem to like "Sascha" as much as "Sasha." According to the newest tf2 blog update, it's spelt "SasCha," with a C. So... yeah. The bot should stay out of this. --Exiggah 19:45, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- The blog has been known to make mistakes and I believe Robin confirmed as much in a recent email I saw. Sasha has been used much more often than Sascha. Moussekateer 19:46, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- At least someone knew what was up, thanks for the confirmation. --Exiggah 19:48, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Strange spacing edit
This edit looks like a bug, putting extra spacing at the beginning of one parameter line while ignoring the others. Toomai Glittershine 17:29, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- Nope, not a bug; the item backpack attributes (the little brown box at the bottom) should be indented by 2 spaces for clarity (item-description, item attributes, etc.) — Wind 17:38, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Incorrect capitalization
Hello, I just recently edited the Grenadier's Softcap page, and the edit I made involved the sentence "A grenadier is a soldier who specializes in handling grenades and other explosives." The bot seems to think that the word "soldier" should be capitalized, even though the sentence is referring to a soldier, instead of the Soldier. I'm not sure how to fix this, could you look into it when you get the chance? Siriusd 01:14, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Weapon Combination Names
Hey, were you the one who named the rest of the weapon combinations in the Community Strategy pages of all classes? Because if it's you, I want to thank you for continuing my work. I ran out of ideas after editing Demoman's Community Strategy page, it's good you named the rest. Also, I round up the remaining weapon combinations so now all of those combinations are named. Thanks again!
-TheDecepticonDude 03:42, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Storyline
On Storyline#The Mann Family, it (logically) filtered the names of Gravel Pit and Dustbowl, but in the sentence's context, capitalization wouldn't make much sense. However, I don't want to blacklist the page, since there are likely many other reasons the bot would need to go there. Is it possible to blacklist just that section, or to set up some other way to have it avoid that? (Btw, here is the specific edit, if it helps.) —烏Γ (kaw at me), 03:18, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Fixed — Wind 03:28, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Direct Hit
Found one instance of the problem on Flare Gun, and thought it would likely appear elsewhere: the phrase "direct hit" seems common enough that it probably shouldn't autocapitalize it. Of course, it actually referring to the weapon is probably seen far more often than just as a description, but either way... —烏Γ (kaw at me), 17:33, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Nah, is fine as it is :3 Keep adding them botignore~ — Wind 20:11, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Weapon Demonstration
I've noticed that on some pages, the bot has been breaking the videos by deleting the first/only parameter in the template.
I've reverted a few, but it might be better to take a look at why it's doing it. (Seems like the bot and I haven't been getting along lately...xvx) —烏Γ (kaw at me), 04:22, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- seb is already on it. Let the bot remove them. — Wind 04:23, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
As a Crafting Ingredient
Hey, I've noticed that in many of the weapons' pages, the 'Crafting' in the heading == As a Crafting Ingredient == is linked to the crafting article.
However, in the Style Guide it says they shouldn't be linked. Is this something the Bot can be made to fix? / Would this be the right place to post this? If not, I could do it manually. Thanks, - LingoSalad (talk) 19:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Stickybombs
Is there any reason in particulars that this bot is capitalising stickybomb/stickybombs? (Just found it odd, since, say, 'flares' or 'rockets' isn't capitalised.) Hostile Companion Cube Roar 23:17, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Class names in TF classic games
I'm traslating TFC an QWTF's articles, and they have classes names translated into spanish, but when I edit one page and put "Francotirador" and "Ingeniero", that bot changed into "Sniper" and "Engineer". This in TF2 articles is a good change, but not in these articles. Can someone fix this? Jag Gentleman 13:53, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Would it be possible for WindBOT to stop changing Bonk-helm to Bonk Helm on the Dutch pages? Bonk-helm is the official Dutch translation in the localization files. Or am I going to have to add the botignore thing every time when I write the name? Hefaistus - talk 16:20, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Russian typographic
Hi, can you add filter to fix russian typography?
- Filter should replace "" '' with «». And slashes inside «» with „“
- For example, filter will replace "Кавычки 'елочки'" with «Кавычки „елочки“».
- Here's regexp which I use ro replace "" with «»: "([^"]+)" ==> «\1»

- That's a good idea actually, I think more languages than just Russian may benefit from this. In French for example, this would work too, except it needs extra spacing on all sides of the quotation marks. I'll do it in Russian only for now though~ Please watch over the bot in the first few days to make sure it doesn't replace anything that it shouldn't replace. For example this shouldn't happen (see the <ref name=""/>, those quotes should definitely not change. this is better, I think) — Wind 01:11, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll watch over it. Also, I've ported "Wikify" script from ru wikipedia and it works fine (It's written in JavaScript and fully client-side). It helps to edit russian articles (makes right quotes, slashes, spaces, etc.). Maybe I'll modify this script for different languages and we make it official? Here it is: User:Daniil/wikify.js. Here is example of how it's warking [9]. By the way, it is button Daniil 03:38, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Wrong hat, buddy
On the first trivia in the Tam O' Shanter article, it keeps changing 'Tam o' Shanter' to 'Tam O' Shanter', despite the real hat this is based on being lowercase in the middle. Extra Bullets
Whenever you type:
*Text1 **Text2
instead of:
*Text1 **Text2
you get two bullets for the second text (Text2). The first one looks like this:
- Text1
- Text2
while the second one looks like this:
- Text1
- Text2
Since this is usually unintentional, should there be a filter that removes extra lines in between bullets? Or, as that kind of filter sounds pretty hard to write, simply make it so that there is always only one dot? -Rocket Ship BBQ 21:50, 22 August 2011 (PDT)
- That's just how wikicode works, I'm not really sure it's a wise idea to force all lists to be joined together like this; my guess is that whoever made the mistake doesn't really understand lists or didn't use Show preview. Dutch Wiki request
I was wondering if WindBOT could change all the words 'Updategeschiedenis' to 'Updateverleden'? A few of us Dutch translators have discussed about it and we came to the conclusion that that would be better translation for all intends and purposes. - Hmmm maybe but now we must check bot's edits to reedit the text... I think this adds additional unnecessary job and it's better to use {{patch name}} only in "Update history" section (at least for russian - because of grammatical case). --Askarmuk 01:06, 16 February 2012 (PST)
- Unnecessary job? Well, I am ready to it then. But remember, that bot's job is to save space on servers and it does his job very well Limie Pie 01:12, 16 February 2012 (PST)
- The bot does not save server space, since every version of every page is kept. If anything, the bot adds stuff; things are never deleted on a wiki. Anyway, for the patch links, I added a new parameter
date=true
to{{patch name}}
that will make the link still go to the patch, but the label will say only the date. It doesn't have a russian format yet; edit common_strings to put a russian date format (keypatch-date-fmt
) — Wind 11:15, 16 February 2012 (PST)

Automatic {{Item link}}
and {{Item name}}
Just wondering if you could somehow make WindBOT use dark witchcraft like this one to turn item names, linked or not, in dictionary templates. This would certainly help when localization files are added/updated. – Epic Eric (T | C) 12:56, 29 February 2012 (PST)
- The patch link filter is very, very specific (only works on links, only if links are internal, only if they link to a patch page, and only if their label contains the day a number and the year number of the patch it links to), and despite all of those precautions, it has caused a lot of wrongs and a lot of reverts necessary to get it straight. Doing the same thing for item names would cause a whole ton more of work, a ton more of false positives and requiring to work around the bot and sprinkling botignore's around, for little purpose.
- tl;dr: No, too much work and grief for both bots and humans, for minimal benefit — Wind 13:02, 29 February 2012 (PST)

"Contribution page" redirects
Some people in the channel want all of the redirect links short-circuited for Contribution page. They're flooding the feed. Is this a suitable bot task? – fashnek (talk·c) 12:56, 18 March 2012 (PDT)
- No. The bot is for long-running always-enabled tasks, not one-off things like this — Wind 14:41, 18 March 2012 (PDT)
Something Special For Someone Special
WindBOT removed an edit by me that added the "Category: Miscellaneous items" tag at the bottom of the page. The page covers both the "tool" form of the item and the actual equipable misc item form, thus it should have both tags. (It shouldn't have the "Crafting" tag, but whatever). I don't want to get into an edit war with the BOT, so if someone could fix this, or explain to me why it was done, I'd appreciate it. ~Sven~ 20:42, 30 March 2012 (PDT)
- It removes all categories, be they misc or tools or weapons or anything, because the infobox is supposed to handle all the category-adding. As the infobox currently only supports one type (currently set to tool), then it only adds the page to the Tools category. The proper fix is to update the infobox to be able to add a secondary type, which will then cause the category to be added automatically (and not manually inserted on the page, which is what the bot is trying to prevent) — Wind 22:53, 30 March 2012 (PDT)
- And of course it's one of those "Don't ruin this high use template-templates"... *sigh* At least I know now. ~Sven~ 23:03, 30 March 2012 (PDT)
- It sure isn't gonna be an easy fix (not sure if it's worth it to be honest) but I just wanted to point out why the bot isn't the thing to fix in this situation — Wind 23:05, 30 March 2012 (PDT)
- I'm not familiar at all with how the bot itself works, to be honest. My assumption was that since it reverted the change it would be related, but I was wrong, apparently. Either way, not sure if it would really be worth the hassle, but the item is both a tool and a misc item... So it should be fixed, imho. ~Sven~ 23:15, 30 March 2012 (PDT)

Patch issues
Windbot's been doing a lot of patch edits recently, but seems to have run into a pair of issues:
1. Removes a key line after Update History.
2. Changes {{undocumented}} into a patch name.

I'd suggest blacklisting this one--more of a "just in case" the bot goes wrong? Idunno, but it follows similar logic to blacklisting competitive. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 16:48, 24 May 2012 (PDT)
- Featured articles are old and have likely received a lot of edits (thus a lot of windbot reviews), so it can be assumed that the bot's rules are fine on it. If they're not, then perhaps it shouldn't be featured in the first place, mmhm? — Wind 17:17, 24 May 2012 (PDT)

The Update of article report
Hello, Wind. Recently I noticed that the BOT did not update the All articles and their status (ex. "Team Fortress Wiki:Reports/All articles/zh-hant (Updated page. (1382 articles) " and " Team Fortress Wiki:Reports/Missing translations/zh-hant (Updated page. (900 articles)) ")
The last time I saw this update was June 2, and now it has been almost a month but the bot did not execute this operation. I think it's a bit hard for me to track the new created pages in zh-hant, because without the updates, the changes will not show the new pages. It makes me go to the RecentChanges and spent more time to find if here's any zh-hant changes.
Is there a problem that the BOT cannot do this work? Or the BOT will not do this work anymore? Please have a reply for me, thank you Wind : ) 21:16, 22 June 2012 (PDT)

Converting item names
Could you let your bot convert item links [[Kritzkrieg]] to use the template {{Item link|Kritzkrieg}} on pages?
This would make translating an page easier, so we don't need to replace all those item names and this would automatic update name changes of items. — Robin0van0der0vliet (talk | contributions) - 13:46, 26 July 2012 (PDT)
- Sorry but no. This has been discussed many times before and would result in a lot of false positives. Maybe the Kritzkrieg itself not so much, but there's no reason to stop just at the KritzKrieg, since this could apply for any item in the game. — Wind 13:48, 26 July 2012 (PDT)
{{Item icon}} → {{Icon item}}
Since I've seen this one used a lot in the inverted format, would it be possible to make a filter that converts the calls to {{Item icon}} to {{Icon item}} (and fix the capitalization while it's at it?). I'd try to add the filter myself but I'm afraid I'd break everything if I did. --Org 19:12, 12 August 2012 (PDT)
- Not much point in that other than a bunch of noisy edits, What captalization problem however? — Wind 20:03, 12 August 2012 (PDT)
- Not all the calls are {{Item icon}} but instead {{item icon}}, you know, little things that annoy me. --Org 13:41, 12 August 2012 (PDT)
- Right, those things may annoy you but all work just the same so editing it serves little purpose.
- Maybe I should implement a filter mode like "optional" (as opposed to "required" filters) where all filters run as normal, but then if after running all filters on a page, the only filters that were run were all optional, then don't edit the page. By making the filter you're describing as optional, this change would then only be done if there was something more important to fix on that page, and thus not cause as much unecessary edit noise — Wind 23:34, 12 August 2012 (PDT)
- That's not a bad idea, deferred updates for non-critical fixes. I like it.--Org 02:41, 16 August 2012 (PDT)

Change tele to Teleporter
Hi love your work, Just a thought, to look for the word tele and change to Teleporter. cheers Uneffect 12:08, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
- The bot isn't really meant to be a substitute for a text expansion program. Type the full word whenever you can; whenever you see "tele" somewhere, then it's most likely poorly written text and so it should probably go away in the first place — Wind 12:11, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
- Thanks that is good to know, I won't use the word tele cheers Uneffect 17:08, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
Update to Template:Item checklist
Hi, I just added the new MvM items to the template. That shouldn't be a problem (never was in the past). However, I did change the variable names for the Silver botkiller items. Previously these were just marked as `botkiller <weaponname>', now they're `silver botkiller <weaponname>'. Just though I'd let you know in case it meant you needed to update the bot. Keep up the good work! --Itsacon 02:31, 17 October 2012 (PDT)
