Animated Stamp

Would you like me to try creating a Higher Def of the animated stamp?.Sorry if my rip wasnt that good -- Coneill987

No it's okay. I don't think a gif is really necessary anyway. The sprite sheet shows the animation in the best way possible. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 22:44, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

RE: Valve Weapons

Actually, the main reason I made the page was I wanted to post a couple of youtube videos of Robin messing around with the Valve Rocket Launcher on public servers with ordinary players. It's rather amusing and real treat to watch for ordinary players who haven't seen it in action.

Where would be an appropriate page to post these? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Object404 (talk) • (contribs)

No, it wouldn't be. The wiki is a place for notable information, not showing off weapons. The problem is that it's so easy for someone that runs a server to attach a quality and attributes to the Rocket Launcher that make it identical to Robin's. If people want to see what Robin's Rocket Launcher looks like in game they can easily do a search on youtube, it doesn't have a place on this wiki. Also please be sure to sign your talk page comments with ~~~~ -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 16:46, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Interesting. Was that how the server admin Drunken F00l replicated Robin's Valve Rocket Launcher, or was he given one?
Well, anyway, it's not so much individual weapons but more of sightings of major valve/TF2 game designer celebrities showing up in public servers. Seeing these kinds of things are the equivalent of loch ness monster sightings, generate discussion and are notable since they're very rare. -Object404 17:03, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that is how he did it. Robin showing up on a server is not a major event, sorry. I just played on the same server as him about a week ago without even realizing it. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 17:07, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Nazi/Medic Valve Statement

What dictates when a citation needed sentence can be removed? Do they remain indefinitely unless someone manages to find a source to reference (in which case, beginning a sentence with "Valve stated..." would guaranteed a certain level of immunity)? The only reason I ask is that I spent several hours online watching and reading interviews which lead to a dead link and no official info on it (just forum posts perpetuating second hand information). Just wanted to ask before spending any more time on other citation stuff. Thanks. Malthenius 09:33, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

No they don't remain indefinitely, but it will remain until it's discussed on the talk page. If a sentence has the citation template it means that it was not outright disproved but still needs to be confirmed. Also please remember to sign your talk page edits with ~~~~ -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 09:24, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. Malthenius 09:33, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
I took a look at the Medic article revision history and came across the following:
04:53, 12 November 2010 FlotsamX (7,601 bytes) (Removed trivia against guidelines; I doubt many assume that he was a Nazi in the first place)
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Medic&oldid=183890
Later on that same day it's re-introduced, same as before as a new "trvia tidbit":
22:45, 12 November 2010 FlotsamX (7,723 bytes) (Cleaned up the Medic article a bit, removed fluff, added a trivia tidbit) http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Medic&oldid=186217
I'm fine with leaving it as a citation needed issue despite my research, I just wanted to clarify what seems to be something of a contradiction. Also, I liked your signature idea so I copied it :D. --Malthenius Backpack Sandvich.png 13:30, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately we don't always agree on what should stay and what shouldn't, but in this case if it was added again and is still there it means people agreed that it should be there. This is why I encouraged discussion before removing it. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 14:20, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Whatever agreement took place, there is no documentation of any discussion of it. I'll drop the subject for good now though. --Malthenius Backpack Sandvich.png 19:41, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Page Example Videos

I have seen so many pages on this wiki showing people crafting stuff, opening crates, etc., usually rare stuff. My video shows the same thing on the Saxton Hale Mask Page, and it keeps getting undone. And I find them particularly useful and a neat idea to this site. ---[PM] ΡÖIЙ† βLΛЙҚ

The problem with videos like yours is that if we allowed one to stay all videos showing an item being crafted would have to stay as well. Nothing unique happens when crafting the Saxton Hale mask so a video is not needed. If you have seen similar videos on other pages it means we have missed them and would appreciate your help in cleaning them up. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 23:37, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

This is the traditional paisley-patterned bandana. The Heavy Duty Rag is identical save for the middle pattern being replaced by TF2 logos. --Larkke 00:06, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Paisley bandannas don't heave a gap on them, the patterns are dense across the entire thing. It might have been influenced by one but for now your trivia is merely an observation. It isn't very useful or interesting either, because most people will immediately recognize that it looks very much like the traditional bandanna. Lugermorph

Seriously, please explain to me why two simple sentences explaining the basic gameplay values of an item aren't needed simply because we can go "oh why bother? Its somewhere else!". Why should the reader have to go to another page to find out how this item functions? Its basic computer philosophy mate, a user should be able to get the information on what they want as quickly and in as few moves as possible. If a user wants to know exactly a Lugermorph functions and how to use it we shouldn't be telling them to stop reading the Lugermorph one, read the pistol one and then come back. A brief summary of the gameplay measures is therefore quite reasonable on that article. Simply strutting in and going "Don't add this again!" isn't exactly helpful. -- Sabre 11:07, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

I believe you answered your own question. Redundant information isn't needed. This is a wiki, the essence of which isn't to be a site designed for casual visitors. It is a place for people to be involved in a constant process of collaboration and documentation of things that change frequently. I apologize if you got the wrong idea from other weapon pages (I just noticed someone has been doing the same thing to the other alternate texture/model pages as well) but it was decided that we will not be pasting summaries or statistics from their respective normal variant pages. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 11:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Minor niggling, but it wasn't copy-and-pasted, I wrote the summaries on the Big Kill and Lugermorph pages to try to convey the gameplay information with deliberately different and more brief wording to avoid any notion of simply copy-and-pasting. But whatever. May I ask where this was decided? I would just like to read the discussion for myself. -- Sabre 11:39, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
If the relevant discussion isn't on any of the weapon talk pages you can find it in the IRC logs. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 12:31, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding a few of your recent undos

You apparently are not in the loop. If you read this, you'd notice that there was something amended. There was a lengthy discussion on the matter that took place primarily in the IRC at #tfwiki and was further discussed here. -- Psychopath User Psychopath avatar.png 21:23, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I see you putting that amendment in, with no permission from any staff. I only remember that Seb, me, and Wind (maybe) agreed that there's no need for the redundancy. You were the only one that wanted it this way if I recall correctly, and before this discussion we agreed to only link to the original weapon's damage and function times section. I'm very much in the loop. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 23:14, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I was decided to translated this page to spanish, but I see that you have deleted it in the past and when I was to copy the code to do it agais, I see a warning saying that the article automatically changed of something like that.
My answer is: Can I translate it to spanish? If the answer is "Yes", I going to trasnalated it (but in other time because I go in holidays). Jag Gentleman 11:30, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

No, we're currently working on a way to automatically generate the list using the in game translations easily in one place. The reason we're not allowing manual translations is that the list is automatically regenerated regularly and manually maintained versions run the risk of going out of date. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 20:08, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

< Poot Wiki Ideas Here >

I had this ideas now. The first is about the Message Alert box that appears to the users who has a new message to the Discussion Page, it would be great to add the Postal Pummeler's kill icon to the template box so this box has a notification logo. Second, it would be cool to add the new Wikipedia Article Feedback Tool in a more TF Wiki style since its a system that gives a person a chance to give feedback to the users who is making these articles for the Wiki. Also, it would be a good idea to add a feedback counter to the users. Stunned.png The Noble Scout (T/C) 10:55, 19 July 2011 (PDT)

TF2 Find page deletion

I noticed that you deleted my TF2 Find page and that you had previously deleted backpack.tf's page. First off, I think you're not in a position to remove website pages since you're biased because you manage OPTF2. You say that it's about notability, and I wouldn't say OPTF2 is very notable (personally discovered it recently). Most people use either tf2b.com or tf2items.com so I'm not sure on what basis you measure notability. I had posted my site on reddit and it got a fairly decent response. The wiki's purpose, I assume, is to help users get information about their favorite game and I think my site does that. I don't know why there has to be some "notability" entrance fee for something that, at the end, is for the benefit of the community. I might agree somewhat if you want to be picky about the community navbar, but to remove the article entirely, I think is ridiculous, since it's not a spam website or one filled with ads.

Either way, I don't care if my site is on the wiki or not since I don't make any money from it and the code is open source, although I would be interested in seeing what other wiki members make of this. Filmore 12:38, 8 September 2012 (PDT)

As far as my bias goes I will only point to this discussion since there's really nothing more to add as far as that goes. As far as OPTF2 itself goes: 1) It has existed almost as long as TF2 has. 2) I did not create its page on this wiki. 3) It has been used as a tool by the wiki for some time now. 4) It pioneered a few now common features. 5) It has been recognized by Valve. In my fairly exhaustive review of your project I did not find any of these attributes. The assertion of how many people use OPTF2 is mostly irrelevant because it lost a large chunk of its user base during a fairly long downtime a year ago and I have been lazy in advertising it. So I'm sure more people do use tf2items or tf2b now, which is why they are listed here. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 12:49, 8 September 2012 (PDT)
I would like to point out that saying Lagg is biased in his opinion of deleting pages because he runs OPTF2 would imply that since you run TF2Find, you would also be biased in the creation of pages.--Piemanmoo 13:01, 8 September 2012 (PDT)

AbuseFilters?

I was curious why this wiki does not use the AbuseFilter extension to block basic spam edits? I've never had incidents with it catching real users instead of spam and it works well as long as it's written correctly. Many large wikis use it such as Wikipedia, Wowpedia or Minecraft Wiki (if you wanted to see how their AbuseFilters work). It could save you a lot of time from having to delete and block over and over. Just a suggestion, maybe there's a reason you guys don't use it already! --Memomo 21:42, 19 September 2012 (PDT)

Steam Web API Implementations section

Hi, I saw that you removed my implementation from the list. For standard & popular APIs, like Facebook or Twitter, I understand that such a list should be kept to popular or notable ones. But Steam's web API doesn't have a lot of implementations, which is what prompted me to write my own. There's only a handful of working ones for a few languages, and some aren't even satisfactory. I added my own because I wanted to help others who, like me, wanted to build an application on top of the API but got discouraged by the severe lack of libraries.

Since the original list was anything but overloaded (4 is a fine amount), and web API libraries aren't that common, I don't think it would do any harm to keep the list open. Smiley (talk) 12:58, 16 September 2013 (PDT)

It's not that it's currently overloaded that is my concern. It's more that I don't want it to end up that way, I can see the early signs of it as we've had similar problems with the community website navbox. For a time I was actually debating removing the section altogether but as you say there aren't that many and any API doc worth its salt should link to at least a few. So it was settled that the list would be cleaned and limited to known and used implementations and further filtering it down so that there is not more than one lib in a given language. It's not anything personal, but these things need to be filtered to avoid it turning into an ad directory. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 13:09, 16 September 2013 (PDT)
Alright, I see your point. What about adding a sub-page with further libraries, though? Smiley (talk) 13:11, 16 September 2013 (PDT)

In fact, had I taken more notice before warning you myself, I would have probably just outright blocked you as well, but I decided that since I had only just recently warned you it wouldn't be fair to immediately block you right afterward.
You've cause a great amount of inconvenience for other users on this Wiki, which is what has caused me and Lagg to take action regarding your behavior. I'll say it again as I said in your block, you have one more chance. If you cause any more trouble for other users, I will block you permanently from the Wiki. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 18:29, 3 September 2014 (PDT)
In all honesty, yes, those reasons were accurate, but the main problem is the way you said that my edits were terrible IN GENERAL. I mean, seriously, if you look at most of my past edits, they were nothing but interesting and convenient. If you can't appreciate what I'm doing to help, go be a jerk to someone else, because I'm so fed up as of now. - U r dead, not big suprise (talk) 18:43, 3 September 2014 (PDT)

Use of {{Languages}} on WebAPI pages.

The update to {{Mw-langlink}} should make the language sidebar fully functional. This should remove the need to have {{Languages}} at the bottom of every page. Would it be alright if I removed them? Darkid (Talk | Contribs) 16:03, 16 October 2014 (PDT)

Yeah, they shouldn't be there in the first place. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 21:16, 20 October 2014 (PDT)
