Dispute about axtinguishing pyros

Seems to be a bit of dispute about whether you can flame pyros then quickly switch and axtinguish them. While I have never been able to do it myself against bots (non-moving ones), I have seen it done while playing online. Maybe it's lag? Stripedy 23:05, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Lag may be a small part of it, but I tested it and it's definitely possible. I camped a tele quick-switch killing everything coming through it, including pyros. My ping was between 30 and 70, which is not bad. The technique that I used was that you can't wait until you see them burn... you just have to click, quick-switch, and click, trusting that by the time you swing that axe, your opponent will be on fire and ripe for the critical. Since this seems to be an unknown/debated item, I guess I'll add it to trivia. Feel free to bump it around into the main article or whatever... but it's definitely confirmed. CptObvious 08:34, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
I can also confirm that this is possible, and this is with a ping of about 30. I doubt lag so much as the quick weapon switching is the primary factor here. Squidfeeder 00:15, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
I can't seem to achieve it (tested with bots and a friend), any chance one of you could upload a demo or video? Secret Agent Clank 01:45, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Kill Icon

Any particular reason there are two kill icons listed? TheMagister 10:51, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

The second kill icon is displayed only when destroying buildings. Killing players shows the default Flame-Thrower icon. -- Vi3trice (talk) 10:56, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

The Flamethrower's kill icon is currently showing in both slots on the page. Did the kill icon change, or did someone accidentally edit it to show the Flamethrower kill icon twice? Satorifan 17:43, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

The Weapons page also only shows the original kill icon for the Degreaser. I think it's an error. BLUH 17:46, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
We've fixed the template, it displays fine now. Thanks for the catch. --Firestorm 17:49, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
About that, should we say it's a bug that the flamethrower icon is shown when killing enemies? After all, there is an unique kill icon for the Degreaser. BLUH 17:52, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
That's already stated in the trivia section --Firestorm 17:53, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright then, but added "Currently" at the front. BLUH 17:55, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

It is level 10. CANPoo 02:20, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

oy mates can I add a trivia? Kexbiti 20:53, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Of course. Feel free to add trivia as long as it adheres to the guidelines outlined on this page. --Focusknock 19:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

An ability not implented.

I've checked the items_game.txt file, after the Polycount Update was released, and I notice that there is a "chargable airblast" ability.

I've tested it out, and it does indeed work (just hold down M2, and the longer you hold it, the farther the enemies will be blasted). Although, there is no charge meter visible. Should this be noted? Because it could be possible it was going to be used with the Degreaser. AbeX300 02:10, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

I have tried this out. It appears that when you hold M2 you get pushed by the first blast and then the second blast occurs which pushes you as well. You can do this with the normal Flamethrower as well. :D --Leftism 13:11, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Trivia confirmation

  • "It has been reported that the Degreaser is also considerably quieter than either of the other flamethrowers."

I just looked inside the .GCF file to Team Fortress 2, curious about the new Polycount sounds, and the "critical loop" sound to the Degreaser seems more considerably louder than the other flamethrower and the Back Burner.

While I have yet to obtain the Degreaser myself, I will attempt to test it once I get it. Shadow86 19:48, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

  • "The Pyro's Degreaser is most likely a reference to the emulsifying agents used to remove heavy oils and grease which are sometimes referred to as "degreasers"[1]. When mishandled with fire, degreasers (especially engine degreasers) are known to cause severe burn or injury due to their highly flammable and explosive nature."

  • It might need to be noted that currently the increased weapon change speed makes switching to the shotgun's animation desync from the audio. Yoya 06:11, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Mathematical Pattern for Afterburn

I am not entirely sure on this, but I think that the pattern of the damage of the afterburn seems to be 2, 2, 2, 3. I'm sorry if I sound way too technical and way too longwinded in my following explaination, but I want to be as clear as possible.

The sum of 2, 2, 2, and 3 is 9. 9 times 5 equals 45, the total afterburn damage of the Degreaser as comfirmed in the article. One set of 2, 2, 2, 3 equals 2 seconds since each tick of afterburn damage happens every 0.5 seconds according to the afterburn pattern of the regular Flamethrower. 5 sets times 2 seconds per set equals 10 seconds. 10 seconds is the length of the afterburn for the Flamethrower's afterburn. Since there is no comfirmed statement about the afterburn length between the Flamethrower and the Degreaser being different times, this set of numbers fits the pattern.

So the afterburn damage may go like this:

2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3. Afterburn ends.

In total damage accumulated:

2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29, 31, 33, 36, 38, 40, 42, 45. Afterburn ends.

Programming-wise, it is likely be 2.25 damage done for twenty ticks. 75% of 3 damage (afterburn damage for Flamethrower) is 2.25. 2.25 times 20 equals 45.

So the damage of the afterburn done and displayed in the game go 2, 2, 2, 3. The afterburn damage without rounding is 2.25 per 0.5 seconds.

Any thoughts? If this seems reasonable enough, I can add it to the Damage section of the article.

Davtwan 00:23, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

No idea if that's true. However it is already in the article, in the trivia section. --CruelCow 23:08, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Was actually added by me about 15 minutes before this post (check history) :P Stripedy 00:47, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll add it to the damage section then since there's still no mention of the afterburn there. Thanks. Davtwan 17:43, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Some days ago the article was edited to state the total afterburn damage dealt by the Degreaser is 40, not 45, due to the rounding down of 2.25 damage per tick to 2 damage per tick. If that's right, the actual afterburn damage reduction, compared to the default Flamethrower, is -33%, not -25%. Should this be mentioned in the 'Bugs' section, and should the article lead stay as it is now ("afterburn damage caused by this weapon is reduced by 25%")? Adreadline 15:14, 17 December 2011 (PST)

RED image is Low Res

It would appear the RED image is blurry on the main page. The file itself looks fine, so it must be something with the size of it or something. I don't know where to start to fix it, so someone else with more experience should probably look at it Balladofwindfishes 00:39, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Does the Degreaser affect the Flare Gun?

Does the Degreaser's fire damage reduction only apply to the degreaser itself, or does it decrease all afterburn damage from that pyro? I know the sticky jumper also prevents you from taking damage from pipes and the ullapool caber, and weapons that effect your damage vulnerabilities work whether or not you have it out. So if someone knows, I think it should be noted.Lustacide 03:43, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Makin' Bacon

Two questions: Does this weapon increases the Makin' Bacon achievement counter, and if it doesn't, is this useful trivia? [[User:Darkid]] 10:35, 29 February 2012 (PST)

I'm pretty sure it does count towards the achievement. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 11:02, 29 February 2012 (PST)
It's already mentioned on the page that it does so. Balladofwindfishes 11:15, 29 February 2012 (PST)
I ask since the page has been edited many times per this issue recently.
@Cooper If it does, is this trivia necessary? [[User:Darkid]] 11:43, 29 February 2012 (PST)
No, not really. It would just be taken away from the "Related Achievements" section. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 12:50, 29 February 2012 (PST)

Damage Spread

Afterburn isn't effected by spread. It deals 2.25 damage per tick, which compounds up to 3 damage on every 4th tick. It may seem randomized, but it isn't. It definitely doesn't deal 2 damage without spread. Confirm/Deny? Darkid (Talk | contribs) 10:34, 19 June 2012 (PDT)

It deals 2/tick, every tick if spread isn't on. Seriously, go check. — Armisael (T | C) 10:40, 19 June 2012 (PDT)
Will do. Also, Pootis. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 10:42, 19 June 2012 (PDT)

Crafting Panic Attack

So I have used the scrap + Primary token + Pyro token recipe a few times now and gotten 2 panic attacks in a row. I'm not sure if this should be included in this crafting recipe as it may be a glitch, I have also been getting the message "no matching blueprint" while trying to craft alot lately which makes no sense. But ya if it isn't a glitch then it should be added as a result to the crafting recipe, maybe someone who isn't bugging out and has some metal to spare could test it out? Basilisk335 (talk) 13:41, 16 September 2015 (PDT)

Shouldn't this have been posted on the Panic_Attack's talk page? Emrfish6 (talk) 14:23, 16 September 2015 (PDT)
