Concussion Jumping

Concussion Jumping is used in Team Fortress Classic to reach areas that are not easily reached by classes other than Soldier or Demoman. Classes with the Concussion Grenade time their grenade throw and jump over it at the moment of its detonation. Concussion jumps require some time to hone and master, but results in players being able to traverse difficult to reach places with less health sacrifices, since concussion grenades disoriented players, but did not do damage.
In Team Fortress 2
In TF2, grenades have been removed from every class except Demoman. This means that it's still possible to do an explosion-boosted jump with the Demoman, even when wielding the Chargin' Targe. However, this will hurt the player, unlike in TFC. This is also usually less effective than sticky jumping, and much harder to control. But when a Demoman is using the Chargin' Targe rather than the sticky bomb launcher, grenade jumping can prove useful. It is employed by shooting a grenade and jumping above it right before it detonates. This is similar to Rocket Jumping, but requires a precise timing.
Trivia
- Concussion Jumping is one of two ways to get across 2Fort in Team Fortress Classic.
- This form of grenade jumping is often used in conjunction with bunny hopping to quickly speed across a map.
- The Rocket Jumper and the Sticky Jumper are weapons for the Soldier and Demoman. They are intended to help players master concussion jumping. Both weapons increase max ammo on the player by 200%, subtract 100 health from the players total health, and deal no damage to themselves or to other players. The Rocket Jumper and Sticky Jumper can be bought in the mann co. store or crafted.
- A Soldier with the Rocket Jumper and the Equalizer equipped will not take damage from the grenade kill taunt. Instead of killing the soldier the taunt will instead just shoot him upwards. The Soldier can use this to perform a concussion jump, although it is impractical.
