Talk:List of maps
Official maps only
I just feel a page showing only official maps and leaving custom made maps to its own page is a better idea. Please verify why my changes were not deemed valid -- MOOSHiE 10:16, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Please read over your talk page. Firstly this is something which needs to be discussed before the changes are made. Secondly before this wiki was moved to the official host, the maps page was plagued by many unfinished and poor quality maps. I think it's generally viewed as a better idea to have a category for custom maps instead of a page. Said category will then give the user links to each map's own respective article. A good general rule of thumb is that if the map in question lacks any real content behind it, I.E the general information that is commonly added to the normal map articles. For instance the lack of strategies and locations to name a few, then realistically it's fairly safe to say that the map in question should not be displayed. The current method acts as a sort of filter to prevent anyone from simply uploading any map they feel like, without providing the information in which Wikis are designed for. The use you're currently trying to change the pages to, as I've already said, is matched by websites such as TF2Maps and FPSBanana (Careful though, FPSBanana is currently facing Virus problems.) Please don't forget how many custom maps for Team Fortress 2 exist. We really do not want a long seemingly endless list of poor, orphaned maps that no-one has ever heard of or played. - Referring to the comment I made on my talk page, I just thought as the custom maps table becomes longer over future time a dedicated page should be made rather than fitting it in with the list of official maps. -- MOOSHiE 11:16, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think we should have custom maps on this page, nor a custom maps page on it's own. I think there should just be a category and nothing more. Please remove the custom maps from this page. -- Smashman... (t • s) 12:12, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Snow setting
I feel that this label could be upgraded to something a little less flat. While that is indeed what blankets the majority of the maps of that setting, the label itself isn't very comparable to the likes of the other current labels. I believe that changing the label to "Arctic" would suffice, although such may possibly overlap with the "Alpine" label, depending on how one defines the two terms. - I agree. "Arctic" covers a much broader idea, and fits relatively easily with the current naming scheme, while not distorting its meaning or making anything confusing. Plus, this would help to cover maps that may use an "Arctic" style, but contain no actual snow (e.g. Indoor maps, maps that simply use the same palette scheme and textures, etc.). This gets my vote of approval. StarYoshi 05:27, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Map Creators
Short post, but does anyone else think that community made maps that are made into official content should have their own column for their creator? The creator could have a link to their own wiki if they are a member and choose to do. Is this possible/desired? K-Mac 03:59, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Bot Support
The above post gave me an idea, why not add yet another column that says if the map supports AI bots officially? you know, if it has navigation meshes. something like: "Bot Support; y/n", "Navigation meshes: y/n" or: "Supports Bots? y/n" or even: "Guy is a sexy beast? y/y" ... I myself would go with the last example... but either ways, what do you think? Guy 22:27, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
