Achievement: A Year To Remember

  • 2004 was the year that the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918, breaking the Curse of the Bambino.

Maybe its also a reference to the release of Half Life 2? --Picard lm(de) 13:42, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

We had that there too, I believe it's probably more of a reference to the Baseball, because of the Scout's Boston and baseball heritage. -- Smashman... (ts) 13:58, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Wilhelm Scream

  • "Burtt then implemented the sound byte in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope when a Stormtrooper is shot."

Nice and all, but which one? - Axquirix

Sandman

Wouldn't that fit better under mythology? As far as I know, the Sandman is a mytholigic characters that uses sand to put people asleep, the song itself seems based on that. Kazzymodus 21:01, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

  • Changed it. Also, it seems like the discussion of the bat should go with the default bat, not the sandman Kane.malakos 21:49, 5 October 2011 (PDT)
I've made a dedicated Bat section for that bit. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 03:43, 6 October 2011 (PDT)

Proposed Re-formatting

I have already made the following proposal for the Demoman references page, but as all of these pages follow the same formatting I'm making the same points here. The reference pages are, to be honest, a bit of a mess. I think it would work alot better and be neater overall if the reference pages were all set out in a more standard format; using sections such as "Achievements", "Weapons", and "Taunts" instead of making random headings simply for one tiny piece of trivia. People looking for an explanation of an achievement or taunt (many of which are fairly obscure) won't want to trawl through a list of meaningless titles like "Music" (which has only one topic), "TV and Film" and "Other".

My proposed new format would be far mose user-friendly to people searching for the meaning behind a specific phrase or achievement. I'll go ahead and try it out on the Demoman page if no objections are made within the next few days, then if it works out we can format the rest of these pages.

I've finished re-formatting this page - the Demoman and Pyro ones are done too. Still working on the rest of the hat references. Please leave any feedback on the new layout on my Talk Page.

Achievement References

I've added references for all the achievements except Batting the Doctor. Anyone know if this is referring to anything? - Cooper Kid (Blether)·(Contreebs) 22:53, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Possible "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" reference?

"Where's your precious Hippo-crates now?" In Bill and Ted, they call Socrates So-Crates, I think it might be a bit of a stretch if this is a reference or not. The preceding unsigned comment was added by DrDoughnut (talk) • (contribs) 04:21, 12 November 2011

It seems possible. From what I can gather it's a fairly popular film in America so it's reasonable that it would have a reference - but I'm not sure if that's enough. I imagine anyone who didn't know any better would pronounce Hippocrates as hippo-crates. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 03:38, 12 November 2011 (PST)

Possible Bioshock reference missed

There is a scout voice command that activates when the help command is used while standing on a control point. The scout says "Would you kindly move your ass to the freakin' point?!", and given the iconic nature of the line in Bioshock, I think it may be referencing to Bioshock. Is there any specific reason this is not in references, or was it overlooked? Thanks for your time Katzekitteh 14:47, 23 May 2013 (PDT)

You'll have to specify the reference better, I'm not sure which line from Bioshock you're talking about. Also note that TF2 was released just over a month after Bioshock was - while not impossible, it's very unlikely that they'd add such a reference in such a short time frame. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 16:10, 23 May 2013 (PDT)
It's Frank Fontaine's catchphrase as Atlas, which then became a meme online. TF2Hansen (talk) 14:33, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Special Delivery

The Special Delivery package shows that it +25 max health on wearer. However, from my understanding, this has already been removed and should now be 'leave a calling card on your victims.' Randomystick (talk) 04:48, 19 November 2013 (PST)

Thanks, I've fixed it. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 04:43, 20 November 2013 (PST)
