Advanced Weaponiser was the name of a SourceMod server plugin which added additional items to Team Fortress 2. It was developed by MekuCube and was last updated to version 2.0.7.
A loadout viewer was built specifically for Advanced Weaponiser. The backpack viewer was made to resemble the actual in-game backpack. In the same manner as other backpack viewers for Team Fortress 2, the inventory and loadout of any player was able to be accessed on Slag Inventory by inserting a player's Steam ID at the end of the URL.
Its official wiki can be found here.

Gameplay Demonstration
Basic Use
- Advanced Weaponiser automatically associated 'backpacks' with a player's Steam ID, letting them retain their items and loadout settings across all servers running the plugin.
- When connecting to a registered server for the first time, a player would not have any Advanced Weaponiser items, but would be granted one after a short amount of gameplay time.
- Like the official TF2 item drop system, players were regularly granted an Advanced Weaponiser item as they spent time playing on a registered server, rapidly continuing until they had at least one of every non-restricted weapon. The drop system would then randomly allocate weapons at a slower rate, for use in Advanced Weaponiser's crafting system (which was disabled, as it was too easily manipulated and abused).
- When receiving an item, the player was presented with an HTML page showing the item's appearance, name, class, and statistics. The player would then have the option of either equipping it immediately or dismissing the message.
- Weapons could also be purchased from the SLAG Shop with SLAG Shillings and Pounds.
Player Commands
As is the case with most SourceMod plugins, commands must be prefixed with either ! or /. Using ! publicly displays the command in chat when entered, while / hides it:
Commands | |
---|---|
Command | Function |
loadout | A browsing and 'equip' interface for the items the player has found, divided into slots (Primary, Secondary, and Melee) when a class is chosen Alternate command(s): loadouts, fullloadout, allloadout, loadoutfull, loadoutall, load, pack, equip, equips, equipment, equipments, weapon, weapons, item, items |
backpack <player name> | Displays the target players' Advanced Weaponiser backpack. Alternate command(s): backpacks <player name> |
info <item name> | Displays the name, class, and statistics for the specified item. |
news | A log of all changes to the plugin, grouped in reverse chronological order. The date and plugin version for each change is not displayed. |
craft | Enters the Advanced Weaponiser Crafting Menu that allows new weapons to be created. (currently disabled) |
drop | Displays the total number of Advanced Weaponiser items that have been dropped (counts across every AW server). Alternate command(s): drops |

Bugs
- Not every weapon has a working viewmodel yet.
- The April 14, 2011 Patch introduced a permanent bug where players could no longer view most custom weapon/hat models.
- Snipers equipped with The Walkabout have the cosmetic attachments of their 'real' primary weapon displayed on their player model (i.e. arrows in the quiver with the Huntsman equipped, darts in the pocket with the Sydney Sleeper).
- Players on a Mac are prone to random crashes. The source of the problem is known (the HTML 'Message Of The Day' window), but disabling MOTDs in TF2 prevents players from accessing their AW loadout, so it's not an acceptable fix.
- Item set bonuses work in conjunction with custom weapons.
Trivia
- Several weapons in Weaponiser are based on unused and beta items.
- Weapons that featured in this mod are sometimes officially added to the game, using either their model or stats:
- The original stats for the Endless Carnage were the same as the stats now used for the Back Scratcher.
- The stats for the Gentle Manne's Olde Firecannone were very similar to the stats now used for the Detonator.
- Before being officially added to the game, the Fists of Steel model was used for a weapon by the same name. Because of this, the Advanced Weaponiser version was renamed to the Alternative Fists of Steel, and given visual distinction from the official version by using a plain steel texture.
- The Great Slag Treasure Hunt was a special event hosted a few months before the end of Version 1, giving AW players the chance to gain three weapons which were (at the time) exclusively found as treasure hunt prizes. Players had to collect 4 clues (the letters S, L, A and G) and stand at specific points on specific maps to claim their prize.
- The Pegasus Boots were found on koth_viaduct, The Celtic King was found on koth_nucleus, and The Lethal Injection was found on koth_harvest_event.
- Despite the Bloody Hurtland having a kill icon, it was never provided for client download at any point.
- The model of the the Heart Opener is based on the Yatagarasu's Key from Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth.
- The model of the Endless Carnage is based on a chainaxe from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
- The model of the Revolvin' Revolver is based on Skelter Helter's gun from No More Heroes 2.
- The Rad Rap is modeled after the hat worn by "Russel" on the cover of the Gorillaz album "Demon Days."
- The description for the Rad Rap is a reference to the Gorillaz song On Melancholy Hill.
- The model for Maxine appears to be based on the Vickers machine gun.
- Version 1 had its own achievements system (based upon one of Mecha's other plugins), and players who fulfilled the achievement conditions were rewarded with hat skins like the Rad Rap.
- Achievements were removed in Version 2 because they left the plugin open to exploitation.
- Every player's AW Backpack was wiped clean upon the launch of Version 2.
- All Self-Made and Community items were re-issued to the players who owned them after the upgrade.
- Updates to Advanced Weaponiser sometimes celebrate 'item drop' milestones:
- From the 300,000th AW item drop onwards (a combined total of all AW v1 and early AW v2 drops), every 1,000th AW item found is of Unusual quality, with particle effects attached to the weapon models.
- There was a brief bug where players could find unusual crafting items, such as Attribute Scrolls.
- Crafting was activated at the 500,000th item drop.
- From the 300,000th AW item drop onwards (a combined total of all AW v1 and early AW v2 drops), every 1,000th AW item found is of Unusual quality, with particle effects attached to the weapon models.
